NINETEEN - 십구
"It's time to wake up!" Irena's voice comes out much too high for the early hour of the morning. The bright light streaming in through the window not helping. Jeongguk stirs slightly, making incoherent noises while my eyes focus in on my cousin standing beside Park Jimin. A tray of food in his hands. Their presences looming over the bed like two concerned parents.
"Good morning to you too." I grumble, pulling myself away from a still sleeping Jeongguk. The pillow I'd been sleeping on replaces my body. Judging from how easily he clutches onto the item, I know the man can't tell the difference.
Ever since the volleyball game gone wrong, Jeongguk has been following me around like a fly. Not that I'm considered trash in any form, but you get the point. He'd been pointing out exactly when I needed to rest, the exact activities I couldn't partake in and other concerns about my concussion. Ordering Jimin and Irena around like two staff members until my cousin put an end to his ridiculous behaviour.
"I'm glad your knight in shining sweat is sleeping." Jimin takes a seat, not caring that he's squashing his friend. Said friend still continues sleeping like his body is as numb as a corpse. "But we've got a big day ahead of us, so ass out of bed. Your hair needs styling."
"Rude. Make sure you don't fry your hair off because there's nothing so special about today." Jimin sends gives her an elbow nudge.
She's right of course. There's nothing exactly happy or big about today. What's supposed to be a beautiful wedding has become a sad agreement all because Namjoon has a weak heart.
Yesterday we had a sibling meeting with Yejin present because like the rest of us, she'd also be affected by the wedding cancellation. Namjoon came clean about how he didn't really want this. Even after this week together, he couldn't see a reason worth staying in the agreement, but then Yejin spoke up. Apparently her family and their business has been going through major losses for years now. Marrying into Kim Group would help with potential investments, one of them being from Kim Group itself. They really needed this wedding.
I said, we could still invest and help out as part of our Corporate Social Responsibility fund, without having to go through with the wedding. But a few tears and sad stories later, Namjoon gave in and decided he'd get married to help Yejin and her family. Neither of us tried to stop him this time.
"When's is the styling team arriving?"
Irena checks her watch, raising an eyebrow at the time. "Half an hour from now, so we'll leave you to get ready."
"I'm glad the two of you are getting along." I wink, earning a scowl from Irena.
"Only because I'm familiar with him. Still hate him though." She sneers at Jimin.
"The feeling's mutual, love."
Like that the two saunter out of the room, with Jimin moving to the side to let her go first. She teases him about being such a gentleman. Sometimes I think they do actually like each other.
-
"Joon, you look so handsome!" I yell, pulling all attention in the dressing room. If my teenage self had the opportunity to see so many half naked men, I'm sure she'd have a ball. Adult me doesn't care. Sauntering past the males who give me deep stares, I walk toward my brother, noticing Taehyung and Jeongguk sitting on a sofa, both occupied by their cellphones. Their only acknowledgement being nods.
"You're not supposed to be in here." Namjoon deadpanns, but his mood doesn't kill mine. With excitement, I brush my hands through his neatly styled hair allowing my eyes to rake through the rich black. A colour I love on my brother, even though he doesn't often wear it.
"I know, but I got you something and I couldn't wait till everyone was done." I smile, handing him the object neatly wrapped in golden paper.
Namjoon stares at me, an eyebrow raised as his hands wrap around the gift. His eyes rake around the room, noting that no one else cares for our conversation.
"Open it." I prod, watching with amusement as he starts unwrapping the paper. The look of confusion washes off of his face and is replaced by a teary eyed Namjoon. The pictures of our childhood memories presenting themselves before him. A message "𝐍𝐨 𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐰𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐞 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐠𝐨, 𝐲𝐨𝐮'𝐥𝐥 𝐚𝐥𝐰𝐚𝐲𝐬 𝐛𝐞 𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐉𝐨𝐨𝐧. 𝐖𝐞 𝐥𝐨𝐯𝐞 𝐲𝐨𝐮." written at the bottom of it.
Filled with pictures of the days we'd go camping, days Namjoon would boredly stand beside the rest of us as we posed for the camera. Us posing alongside him at his prize giving. Attending his university graduation in matching blue outfits that he wasn't really pleased with. His red rimmed eyes at Jins wedding from all his crying. His first day working at the company alongside Jin. All our memories with him up until the day he got engaged. In the last one my eyes a red rimmed with tears while Taehyung keeps me at his side, a serious look on his face. To think we've finally reached the day makes me a little sad. If there's anyone who deserves real love, it's Namjoon.
"Soa-" He chokes, pulling me into his arms. The weight his packed on making itself known as his strong arms pull me into his chest. The action raises eyebrows from me because Namjoon is never affectionate. We could be in hospital, on the verge of death and he wouldn't shed a tear. Atleast not in front of us. Seeing him cry in a room full of close friends and family, I'm sure he's really touched by the photo collage.
"Tae, Jin and I spent a while on that." I rub his back. "If you would've smiled as a kid, it would've been way easier." I sigh, hearing as he lets out a strangled chuckle. The tears still heavily flowing onto my collarbone.
"Now stop crying because you're going to ruin my dress." Namjoon obeys, pulling away from me faster than the speed of light. His hands are quick to wipe away all evidence of tears causing me to roll my eyes. It's one thing my brothers have in common. They never cry in front of people.
"So you're not as cold-hearted as you come across." He jokes, dimples making themselves visible. To this day I'm still jealous that he's the only one who has them.
"I guess not. See you at the alter, Joon. I love you." He waves me off, accepting the mock kiss I blow his way.
"I love you more, sis."
-
"Is it just me or are these dresses attracting bugs?" Irena whispers in my ear, not caring that we're standing in front of a whole congregation of people. All family and business partners seated with plastered smiles.
I ignore her, choosing to keep my eyes focused on Namjoon and Yejin. Their fake smiles resemble the guests. The image of it almost makes me laugh. Atleast Jin and Fei didn't try to hide their displeasure with their situation, but Namjoon has always been the most polite one.
The priest ends the ceremony and allows them to kiss. Namjoon settles for a kiss on the forehead. Irena lets out a low giggle at the action having predicted it the night before. Jimin owes her a watch.
People clap and cheer at the union as the newly wedded couple walks down the aisle clasping onto each other. I watch as Mother plants a fat kiss on Namjoons cheek, wiping tears out of her eyes. In a way I understand her sadness. Watching him walk to his new family, I can't help the tear that falls out of my eye too.
"So now it's only you and me." Taehyung's deep baritone voice sounds next to me. The sound giving me a fright. His hands are tucked in his pants, a serious expression covering his features. Looking at his eyes I know he wants to bawl, but his pride won't let him.
"I'm gonna miss him." I reply, wiping the extra tears.
Taehyung pulls me into his side, "Yeah, especially your bad duets. Mornings will never be the same."
"We can't all be you, Tae." I laugh, thinking back on the many times Namjoon and I would sing at the top of our lungs to awake Taehyung. A combination of our bad voices irritating our brother early in the day.
-
"Did I mention that you look beautiful?" Jeongguk asks, taking a seat beside me, placing two bowls of dessert on the table. Where he found them, I don't care to ask. Judging from how jolly and drunk everyone is, I'm sure it wasn't a difficult feat. Many people left before dessert was even served.
"Not enough times, no." I tease, allowing my legs to rest on his thighs. My bare feet squirming as he wraps his warm fingers around them. His hands start working allowing relaxation to take over my body. Those heels have been on my feet for too long.
"Jeongguk, that's disgusting. We're literally still here." Yoongi let's out, earning a laugh from Hosoek.
Usually the action would be too intimate to do in public, but judging by how empty the hall is, I don't mind. Mother and Father left over and hour ago, claiming that they'd see Taehyung and I at home. Namjoon cried again after saying his goodbyes. This time Jin was there to help comfort him, but now even he had left with his wife in tow, wishing us all a goodnight.
Jimin and Irena are swaying on the dance floor to a jazzy song being played. Other people are also enjoying the music, some making out in corners of the room, others sensually dancing without a care.Judging by how smiley everyone is, I'm sure they've both had more than enough to drink.
Taehyung had gone to bed half and hour ago, both Jeongguk and I noticing Heather follow him out Jeongguk raised an eyebrow in question, receiving a shrug from me. If anything, I was happy my brother was getting some action. He's been celibate for way too long.
"Yoongi come dance with me." Stephanie mewls, causing all four of us to turn to her. Hosoek let's out a loud laugh, patting Yoongi on the back. Jeongguk follows suit, knowing that the girl must have had a lot to drink to ask Min Yoongi for a dance.
"I'm busy. Ask Taeyong." Yoongi points her away, his face pulling into a look of displeasure.
"Yoongi, I want you." She moans, brushing her fingers through his hair.
He gets up, passing the rest of us peace signs. "I'm too sober for this shit. See yall tomorrow."
"Yeah, I'm out too." Hoseok says, following after the brunette male.
Stephanie pouts, falling into an empty seat beside Jeongguk. Her eyes trail over the two of us, lingering on his still massaging hands. A look of sadness fills her face. One I recognise too easily. It's the same look she wore when she found him comforting me after a bad exam in my first year of university. The only difference between then and now is her assumptions having become a reality.
"You guys are cute together." She smiles, a soft and sad smile, but genuine among all the others I've received over the course of this week. "I'm sorry for not noticing it before."
"Thanks, Steph." Jeongguk replies, turning to meet her eyes. Though they're not together, I admire the respect he has for her. "You should probably go to bed."
She follows his instruction, giving him a pat on the back. Her body ambles out the hall, her dress forming a nice bundle in her hand.
"We should go to bed too-"
"I first want to show you something outside." Jeongguk interrupts. His eyes hold an excitement I can't explain.
"Okay."
Giving Namjoon and Yejin goodnight kisses, I join hands with my boyfriend, allowing him to keep my heels in his empty hand. My head leaning against his arm as we walk back to the alter. Lights surround the area, giving it an even more magestic aura.
"Why are we here?" I ask, taking in the rose petals on the floor. They're neatly arranged in a pattern that froms a heart. I'm sure they weren't here the afternoon. Surrounding the petals are candles that make me pull a face trying to remember if they were there before.
Jeongguk doesn't answer instead he places my shoes on a nearby chair, his hand getting lost inside his suit jacket causing me to frown.
"Jeongguk, what's goin-" I ask as he goes down on one knee.
"When I first met you back in high school, I didn't think we'd be together or even still be friends at this point of our lives. I liked you then because you were beautiful and friendly. A little bit stubborn at times and very argumentative. I still remember watching you and Taehyung have a full blown argument over whether you could go to a party with us. I wanted you to come too." I laugh, thinking back on that moment.
"University, you found me in a really complicated relationship and to this day I'm still sorry for breaking your heart by getting into that when I knew you wanted more from me. Back then, I was too dumb to realise what was in front of me, but I thank you for allowing me to make you mine before it was too late."
"Now, years later, I love you so much more everyday that we're together. I love how you never allow anyone to bring you down. I love how you're a family person even though you'll never admit it. I love how you love my mom like she's your own. I love how you love me. When I'm with you, I'm the real me. Not CEO Jeon, only bunny smiles and all and that's why tonight I ask for your hand in marriage."
"Soa,there's no one else I'd rather be married to. I want to have a family with you. Stay up until morning talking about things that have hurt you or talking about your dreams. I want you to yell at me when I'm being an idiot. Give me the cold shoulder because you're jealous over girls that really don't matter. I want you to scream my name when we make love-"
"Oh my gosh, Jeongguk!" I screech, covering my face in embarrassment.
"I want to grow with you and I'm tired of waiting any longer. Kim Soa, will you marry me?"
I laugh, tears freely flowing as he stares up at me with big eyes. As if I could ever think of saying no. Not when I've been dreaming about this moment ever since I developed a crush on him.
"Of course I will!" I scream, watching as he puts the ring on my finger. My lips meet his as soon as he's on his feet. It's slow and passionate, one with love and promise.
His arms lift me, allowing my legs to wrap around his body. Neither of us caring for the dress that tears with the movement. My hands firmly grip onto his locks to push him even closer.
"I love you, Jeon Jeongguk." I pull away, pecking his lips with every word. He smiles wide, allowing me to kiss his teeth at some point, but I don't care.
"And I can't wait to be your wife." I laugh, looking at the beautiful diamond ring again. A sleek band with one diamond. Exactly what I wanted.
"I love you more, Kim Soa."

AN:
Ahhh this is the longest chapter, I've ever written. It was happy and sad altogether. Finally letting Namjoon go was sad. He's been a vital part of this book, but life goes on!
