CHAPTER SEVEN.
"Hotter Than Runes"
[   The New York Institure  ]

Asher leant over Isabelle's shoulder looking at the screen in front of them the two exchanging some flirtatious words while Alec glared at them.

"What is going on? What is there a mundane in the institute?" Alec asked jace making asher and isabelle stop what they were doing.

Noticing his friend Asher stood up and walked to join the group isabelle following behind him. "That mundanes name is Simon," Asher said earning an eye roll from Alec.

Ignoring the werewolf and his parabatai jace sighed "a circle member followed him to get to clary."

"A circle rune, just like the guys that took my mother." Clary added.

"What exactly is a circle member and why are they trying to kill us?" Simon asked.

"All we know is... a long time ago the circle led a revolt. A lot of shadowhunters got killed..." jace trailed off "including my father."

"And since the revolt we've been forbidden to even hear about the circle" Alec added.

"But, how is that even possible? It's your history."

Jace scoffed "says the girl who didn't know she was a shadowhunter?"

"Yeah. Yeah, you're right. And now the only person who knows the truth is missing" clary said.
"We don't care about your rules or what's forbidden. we just want to get clary's mother back so there must be someone out there that can tell us where her mother is," Asher exclaimed.

"There is. You coming?" Jace asked clary as he made his way towards the training room. Simon and Asher went to follow clary but was stopped by jace. "No, no, no. Not you and especially not you" jace said pointing from Simon to Asher.

"Hey we're a package deal" clary defended.

"There are runes all over the training room floor that would kill your Mundie boyfriend"

"He's not my- -"

"I'm not, like- -"

both Simon and clary said at the same time. "We're, Uh, all just friends" Simon said.

"Best friends." Clary corrected.

"Yeah, and I'm tough. I can handle runes. So uh, bring on the runes" Simon said hitting jace's arm instantly pulling it back and shaking it. "What exactly are runes?" Simon asked.

"They give shadowhunters our demon fighting powers" isabelle said walking up to them, running her Steele over her angelic power rune."

"So hot" both Simon and Asher said causing Jace jace to clear his throat.

"The rune" Simon corrected himself.

"sweetheart I think the rune is hot, but you are definitely hotter" Asher winked at isabelle causing her to blush and Alec and Jace to glare at him.

Isabelle recomposed herself, "don't worry, clary. I'll watch over the best friends. In fact I was just about to make breakfast." Isabelle reassured clary her eyes not leaving ashers.

Jace inhaled "On second thought the runes might be less lethal."

"I'll pretend I didn't hear that." Isabelle said. "Please excuse my brothers lack of manners." Isabelle apologized to Simon. "This is Alec... and I'm isabelle" Isabelle said sticking our her hand expecting Simon to kiss it but instead he began to shake it instead.

"Lewis. Simon, Simon lewis. Two first names. Am I still talking?" Simon rambled .

"See best friends safe and sound here" jace said to clary.

"Jace, if anything happens to them..." clary trailed off.

"Go, on, we'll be fine." Asher reassured clary.

"Where are we going?" Clary asked

"Training room," Jace answered.
