CHAPTER FOUR
KANIMAS AND MERMAIDS

"She's a what?"

After Stiles had gone home and done a little research, he had come to several conclusions. Number one, there was a hell of a lot mythical creatures. Like, what the hell was a banshee? Number two, a hell of a lot of those creatures had crazy abilities and powers. Was Stiles Stilinski the only guy around here that didn't have some cool power? And number three, Shivani had to either be a siren or mermaid or some kind of witch or wizardy thing. Well, at least according to the internet. For a skeptical guy like Stiles, he sure did place a lot of faith in the internet.

A lot of things had happened since his talk with Shivani. For one, him, Scott, Allison and Lydia had gone on this 'double date' thingy at the ice rink. Stiles had convinced this guy Boyd at school to lend him the keys exchange for fifty dollars. For a guy who worked at an ice rink, he sure drove a hard bargain. It had all been fun and games until Lydia was lying on the ice, screaming and clawing at it. Something was definitely wrong with the strawberry blonde. He didn't know what yet, but it surely had something to do with the bite she had received from Peter Hale at the winter formal. It was weird how she hadn't wolfed out yet, and it scared the Stilinski boy to think of what this all could possibly mean.

Another groundbreaking thing was that apparently, Derek Hale was going around giving every other teenager the lethal bite that would either turn them into a bloodthirsty werewolf, or it would kill them. It was a little too much of a risk, and in Stiles' opinion, not big enough a reward. Derek had already managed to turn Isaac, Erica and Boyd into werewolves despite Scott doing his very best to prevent it.

As well as that Stiles had finally seen the creature Scott had described to him. He had been at the mechanics shop to get an oil change when he had fallen to the ground, completely paralyzed. Let's just say, it top Stiles personal chart of 'favorite sensations to feel'. Then he has watched his jeep crush a guy. Again, not exactly his favorite thing to witness. That's when the lizard creature had jumped down infront of him. It barred its sharp teeth at him before leaving him to let the paralyzation wear off. Why? He had absolutely no idea. All he did know was that they had to find a way to stop the thing, if there even was a way.

That thing was really freaking creepy and scary, especially compared to how Scott had vaguely described it. The McCall boy didn't exactly have a flare for the dramatics, and had gravely underestimated how bone chilling the creature was. Stiles made a mental note to lecture the crooked jawed boy about his lack of imagination and horrible ability to recall and describe.

The school day had been spent running back and forth between Allison and Scott as their little messenger. He was getting really tired of repeatedly telling Scott his undying love for him, even if it was Allison's words. Now, they were both standing in the locker rooms, changing into the appropriate attire for the big game night. Coach was riding on the fact that Scott would ace the game. Stiles would probably not be getting any field time at all. He didn't really care, at least not right now. He had much more time pressing matters to attend anyway.

Scott was staring bewildered at his friend. Stiles had just told him his theory about Shivani. Even for Scott, who was a werewolf, this was a reach for him. "What?"

A shot in the dark, even.

"A mermaid, or witch or something." Stiles confidently repeated, frantically waving his arms around as he explained.

"A mermaid?" Scott repeated.

Stiles scoffed loudly as he dramatically rolled his eyes. "Yes, Scott, a freaking mermaid."

"You don't think that's a little far fetched?" Werewolves and lizards creatures were one thing, but mermaids?

"Far fe- far fetched? Really Scott? You're a literally werewolf. And so is Erica, Isaac, Boyd and Derek. And you're dating a family of werewolf hunters who carries guns and crossbows with them where ever they go. And there is literally a homicidal snake on four feet running around killing and paralyzing people. But you think mermaids are a little far fetched?" Okay, maybe he had a point.

"I'm not even going to ask how you got to that conclusion." Scott said as he pulled on his gloves.

"You know what, I'm going to prove it. You'll see." Stiles said, patting his wolfy friend on the back.

"Yeah, when? Now?" Scott questioned.

Stiles shot him a look. "Yeah I thought I'd just reveal to everyone mid game that she's a mermaid or something. She could be our new mascot!" Stiles sarcastically exclaimed. "No, Scott, I'm not going to do it now. Besides, I have to try find that stupid bestiary, remember?" Stiles was really reconsidering his choice of friends. Correction, friend.

Tonight, Stiles' mission was breaking into principle Gerard's office. He was Allison's grandfather, on her fathers side. Something about him truly made chills run down Stiles' spine. He didn't not for a second believe that 'friendly old man'charade the elderly Argent was putting on. He was as bad, if not worse, then all the other Argents. After all, his daughter was Kate Argent and something was telling him at she was more of a daddies girl.

Shivani honestly had no idea why she had made the stupid decision to go to this lacrosse game. Sitting on the bleachers hugging the jacket closer to her body, claiming the Caddel girl was cold would be an understatement. She was freezing her ass off. Allison had insisted that the girl tagged along. She pressed that she needed to see the star player, that being Scottie boy, in all his glory and shine. Now that Shivani had to see to believe.

She didn't really understand why Allison had invited her in the first place. She was making meaningless conversation with her grandfather, Gerard, and Shivani sat next to the two in silence. Gerard had asked the Caddel girls a few questions, like how she was liking Beacon Hills so far and so on. They didn't have a lot to talk about so the convo died out.

Shivani puffed air out of her mouth, admiring the misty form it made as her hot breath crashed into the cold air. The lacrosse game had start about ten minutes ago, though it felt more like two hours ago. Nothing exciting had really happened. Well, other then some huge player on the other team that could scarcely be considered a teenager bashing down all the players on the Beacon Hills side. Shivani flinched everytime it happened. Personally she didn't really enjoy violence, but it was at least a spark in the dead night. And she couldn't deny that watching Coach freak completely out was entertaining her greatly.

Twenty or so minutes had passed, and the abnormally big teen had knocked half of the team on their asses. Coach was becoming more and more agitated by the minute. At one point he had even demanded to see a birth certificate. It had made Shivani chuckled. With her eyes trained on the field she watched the guy charging directly at Scott. She smirked slightly as she flicked her wrist. Out of nowhere, a gust of wind hit him, causing him to fall flat on his face on the ground. That's how it's done, Shivani proudly thought as the crowd cheered. She crossed her arms over her chest, happy to have been able to contribute. She glanced around, making sure none had suspected her.

He angrily got up, almost snarling as he glared at Scott. Glad I'm not in his shoes right now. Though Shivani would nothing more then to literally knock the player out with her powers, she couldn't. Both because she didn't want to seriously harm anyone and because him passing out randomly would raise suspicion.

Scott and Jackson ( who Shivani had learnt was Lydia's dick twat of an ex boyfriend, at least according to Allison ) as co captains had to deal with the player from now on. Allison was a great supplier of gossip, Shivani had picked up on. Or maybe gossip wasn't the right words. It was more like intell, or valuable information for the new girl.

"Good God, is this sport always this violent?" The white haired man questioned his granddaughter with a hint of disgust hidden inbetween the words. A player was helped off the field, clutching his foot.

Shivani let her eyes lock on a shadow covered figure sneakily retreating back to the school. Stiles.

After their talk, the obviously most sensible thing to do would for sure be avoiding the Sheriff's son ( yet another piece of information Allison had provided ). Then again, Shivani didn't feel her most sensible right now. So she slipped undetected away from Allison and her grandfather, jogging after the Stilinski boy. She figured she'd press him for information, test just how much he knew about her. If she wanted to avoid detection, she needed to know what he knew.

This was surely a lot more interesting than watching that stupid game.

Soon enough Shivani found Stiles leaned up against a car that hosted a sobbing Lydia Martin. The boy obviously had an eye for the strawberry blonde. Shivani was confident that Lydia knew that too. Hell, the entire school probably knew. He was very bad at hiding the fact.

Scoffing about the fact that he wasn't about to do anything more exciting, Shivani was about to turn around and leave back to the lacrosse field. But just as she was about to go, Stiles took off running towards the school. Shivani grinned widely, following after.

When she turned a corner, she was shocked to find Stiles snooping through every drawer in the principles office. "What are you doing?" Shivani blurted. Stiles flew around, eyes wide.

"Jesus Christ." He exclaimed, hand placed on heart. "I almost had a heart attack. You can't do that!"

"What? You afraid I'll zap you with my magic voodoo powers." Shivani joked. Stiles didn't find it funny.

"Are you following me? You're following me!" Stiles accused. Shivani shrugged her shoulders. She had already been caught, might as well admit it. The Caddel girl didn't understand why, but over the course of the few days she had 'known' Stiles, she had managed to grow comfortable around him.

"I might have been doing that yes."

Stiles opened his mouth to reply, but something other than what expected left his mouth. "Erica?"

Erica? Confusion washed over Shivani's face. That is until she spun around. Her jaw almost dropped down to the floor at the sight infront of her. A leather cladded, high heel wearing barbie version of Erica Reyes was currently infront of Shivani. Her previously unbrushed and messy blonde hair fell down in perfect curls. The dark circles under her eyes that had previously screamed exhaustion were gone, and her pimply face was replaced with glowingly smooth skin, red lipstick and a fresh coat of mascara to enchance her lashes. Shivani wasn't going to lie. Erica looked absolutely drop dead gorgeous. She was sexy as hell.

"Your with Stilinski, really Shivani? Gee, thought you had better taste." Erica mused, eyes flickering between the two. Neither of the brunettes had time to respond. Erica grabbed them both, dragging them along with a suprisngly strong grip. Geez, the girl was hot and strong? She was more impressive than half of the boys Shivani has met.

The doors to the swimming pool were thrown open, and the two teens were hauled inside. When Shivani regained her balance, she noticed the second leather cladded person in the room. Once agian, her jaw almost dropped open. Holy freaking shit how could one person be this sexy? It was like the God made the man into mixture of blue eyes, dark hair and a sharp jawline. Why on earth had the small town hidden them away?

"Derek." Stiles grumbled. The blue eyed Greek God stared back at the sarcastic boy.

     "Stiles." He retorted.

God, even his voice is sexy. Shivani attempted to shrugged off her thoughts, get a grip.

"What did you see at the mechanics garage?" Derek asked in a demanding tone.

Stiles shrugged his shoulders. "Uh, several alarming EPA violations that I'm seriously considering reporting." Not satisfied with the very sarcastically laced answer, Mr. hottie suddenly grew claws out of his hand, puncturing the basketball in his hands. "Holy God." Shivani's eyes almost popped out of her skull as she stared in disbelief. What the hell was going on?

"Let's try that again." Derek said, throwing the deflated basketball aside.

"All right, the thing was pretty slick looking. Um, skin was dark. Kind of patterned. Uh, I think I actually saw scales. Is that enough? Okay, because I've somebody I really need to talk to-" The unimpressed and unsatisfactory expression on Derek and Erica's face ushered Stiles to continue. Shivani looked back and forth between them. She didn't understand shit of what was going on, or what the hell Stiles was going on about. "-All right, fine, eyes. Eyes are, um, yellowish. And slitted. Um, has a lot of teeth. Oh. And it's got a tail, too. Are we good? What?" Stiles paused as he saw the look on the werewolves faces. "Wait, have you seen it? You have this look on your faces like you know exactly what I am talking about."

Stiles slowly edged around. Following his cue, Shivani did the same. "Oh my god."

     "Run."

The green scale covered creature jumped from the wall, using its tail to throw Erica into the closest wall, knocking her out instantly. Then, the tail slit the back of Derek's neck, instantly causing him to fall limp into the pool behind him. Without hesitation, Stiles jumped after.

"Where is it?" Stiles yelled, panick evident in his voice. "Can you see it?" He asked a soaked Derek. Stiles clutched the grown werewolf, kicking his feet in the water to keep him afloat.

"There." Derek yelled. Shivani found herself staring directly into the lizardly eyes.

"Shivani get into the water!" Stiles screamed in desperation. Shivani gulped as the creature slowly eased closer. "Now!"

"I can't." She nervously yelled back. "I, uh, can't swim." She lied.

"It's either that, or being teared apart by that thing."

Coincidentally, the creature threw itself in Shivani's direction at Stiles' words. In an attempt to escape, she stumbled backwards, falling into the pool. As the water enfugled her, she knew. She was royally screwed.
