CHAPTER TWO
OMEGA; THE LONE WOLF
"never felt so strange"
˚✧₊⁎*⁎⁺˳✧༚
Shivani Caddel liked to believe she was a lone wolf, the omega. Throughout life the somewhat awkward and introvert teen had resided to her own company. Reasons for that? The list was long. It started with her parents piping her up with confidence. In their eyes, their little princess was too good for anyone. It made her extremely picky when it came to acquaintances and friends. Another reason was simply because she enjoyed being by herself. Growing up she was used to being in her own company when her parents were at work. Which was pretty much all of the time. Her favorite choice of company when watching a movie was her trusty ally throughout everything; Milton, her cat. The last, and maybe the most obvious reason, would be the fact that when she touched water, she turned into a fish. Friends only meant more people in her life that she would have to lie to. And if someone became close to her, they came close to her secret. She just couldn't risk it.
Rolling solo hadn't exactly ever been much of a struggle for the girl either. It wasn't like people naturally gravitated towards her. Sure, Shivani could be incredibly charming ( at least that's what she liked to think, she had never had the opportunity to test said charm out ), but only to people who really knew her. Fortunately, Shivani had never struggled with bullying, just some harmless teasing. She had no problems standing up for herself and shutting the bullies up, but always opted not to. Standing up for herself meant garnering attention, and as the record stated, Shivani did anything humanly— or mermaidly— possible to avoid said attention.
Currently the Caddel girl was seated at the drivers seat in her mom's car. The parking lot was packed, and she had been relieved when she found an available spot. How anyone managed to get up early enough in the morning to get the best parking spots, she would never understand. The girl put off waking up as much as she possibly could. Usually her parents would end up forcing her out of bed, that is before they themselves had to take of. Yes, in her teenage age, she still needed her parents to wake her up in the morning. She could never imagine herself waking up earlier then she already was. Shivani was to be consider a heavy sleeper, and a mere alarm blaring in the morning was no match for her slumber.
Shivani slumped in her car seat, letting a yawn mixed with a groan rip through her lips. Yesterday had been way too close of a call. Mere luck had aided in her not getting caught. The janitors closet was just close enough that she barely managed to slip inside. What if she had fished out in the middle of the hallway? Anyone could have seen her, especially Stiles. Her goal was keeping her secret, not showing the Stilinski boy herself in all her fishy glory. She would have to be a whole lot more careful from now on. The Caddel girl was crossing her fingers that the Stilinski boy was the type to let these kinds of things go. It would only complicate her life if he insisted on sniffing around her business. Sooner or later he was bound to find the entire thing fishy ( pun intended ).
On a lighter note, this Tuesday morning had started off with some good news. The missing girl, Lydia Martin, had been found late the previous night. She had been cold, scared and confused, but amazingly enough she had no internal or external damage. Shivani wasn't quite sure how it was possible, or how she was even alive, but she decided it was a good thing. She was happy the girl had been found alive and well. It meant that she could check one crazy event off of her list of insane things happening in this precious little town.
Checking the clock, Shivani let out one more sorrowful sigh before exiting the car. She wasn't about to get her second detention this week. Her parents would literally kill her if they found out. She hadn't told them about yesterday, not that they had been home to notice that she hadn't been there. Guess having workaholics as parents had its advantages. She usually got away with most things, like making slush of any drink she wanted with her powers, or pulling objects to her when she was too lazy to get up and get it herself. And having Milton by her side, she didn't feel all that lonely. The cat happened to provide greater company than most people. It was complete normal to consider your cat as your best friend, right?
When she skipped across the parking lot in a rather happy manner, her eyes landed on none other then the Stilinski boy himself— just the boy she had been planning on avoiding throughout the day. He was already looking around when his gaze caught hers. Quickly she evaded her gaze, hurrying towards the entrance of the school. Stiles was sure to have a lot of questions. Questions like how she got dry that fast, or why there was steam coming out of the closet. All questions she had no idea how to answer. She got the feeling that the pale skinned boy was rather curious and pushy, so the best choice for her would be to steer clear of him all together.
¨Hey Shivani. Hey, wait up!¨ Stiles called after the brunette, throwing shut the car door to the rusty blue jeep. He jogged after the surprisingly fast girl, barely managing to catch up with her. Something weird was going on with her. Stiles was skeptic by nature, and something about her just didn't add up. He was going to make it his very own little mission to figure out if she was hiding something, and if so, what. It wasn't like he had much of a social calendar keeping him occupied anyways.
Shivani groaned internally, but quickly masked her annoyance with a sickly sweet smile as she turned to face Stiles. ¨Oh hi there Stiles, didn't see you there.¨ She lied through her teeth. The dark haired girl eyed the bell on the wall as the two entered the school together, hoping it would be her savior. Not that it would matter anyways, the two had class together. Actually, most of their classes were together. Today she was fortunate enough that didn't have any chemistry with Mr. Harris, but instead English to top off her morning.
¨I just wanted to apologize for yesterday.¨ Stiles started. ¨I know I've already apologized, but you left in a hurry and I just figured I would check up on you.¨ This wasn't like the spastic teen at all. Stiles didn't make new friends just like that, especially not with girls. But things had changed lately, with Scott now being part wolf and all. Maybe it was time Stiles got a little out of his comfort zone. He had spent way too much time pining after Lydia. Why not try to widening the horizons? That, and he was suspicious of Shivani. What's that saying again? Keep your friends close, and your enemies closer? Yeah, that's exactly what he was doing.
¨It really wasn't a big deal. It was just a little bit of water. I found some paper towels in the closet. And you didn't even spill that much on me.¨ Shivani replied quickly, readjusting the strap on her shoulder. She made a mental note to buy a new bag, the strap of this one kept digging into her shoulder.
From the three times Shivani had ever seen Stiles, she had noticed he had a certain style he liked to keep to. That style included some old jeans, worn out sneakers and a flannel. Today, being one of those mentioned three times, he was dressed in just that. It made him look sort of geeky, but geeky fit him. With the buzzcut and all. . . he actually look sort of cute.
¨We should get to class. Do you know where English is?¨ Stiles nodded, leading the brunette down the hall and in direction of the class. He was conflicted on whether he was going to tell Scott about his suspicions or not. Alas he decided against it. Some things were worth keeping to himself, at least until he could manage to figure out what was so weird about this girl. And Scott being, well Scott, he would probably claim Stiles to be paranoid, and demand he drop it. At the end of the day, the smartes thing to do was too keep his 'investigation' under wraps, at least until he had a more plausible explanation as to why he was suspicious of the girl.
˚✧₊⁎*⁎⁺˳✧༚
Stiles had told Scott about his suspicions.
Okay, so he had decided against doing it. Scott would, and did, think it was ridiculous of him to just go off and suspect a random and seemingly innocent girl of being supernatural, or anything else other then an ordinary high school girl for that matter. But this was Stiles. He couldn't have kept his mouth shut even if he stapled it closed. He had to tell his best friend all about his discoveries. Which, by the way, was no more than theories. Theories Scott was growing tired of hearing all about.
The conversation had quickly switched from Shivani and over to werewolf business when they arrived at the locker room. The full moon was coming up, that very night in fact, and Stiles was more than prepared to chain Scott up. In fact, he was so prepared he had tons of chains laying around in his locker. Which had all poured out when he opened it the door to his locker. Coach was shocked at the sight, and had made a somewhat whitty comment as he left. Stiles had to be prepared for the full moon. Scott thinking he had everything under control wasn't exactly comforting when Stiles knew he'd be mauled to death if it wasn't true.
After that, Scott had caught a whiff of another werewolf in the lorckerrooms. He had no idea who it was, or why he was there, but it had to be someone on the team. Which would mean either some new werewolf had come to town, or someone had been turnt. . . by none other then Derek Hale. He was the alpha now, with the power to turn whoever he wanted. Scott was hoping he wasn't stupid enough to randomly turn some teenager into a werewolf. Scott had firsthand experienced what a catastrophe that was, and it was the absolute last thing anyone needed at the moment. Especially when they had to worry about Lydia turning into a wolf too.
This was all what led up to Scott ramming into different players on the field, sniffing them up and down as he tried to uncover who the mystery wolf was. Shivani watched the whole thing from the bleachers. This wasn't really her scene, like, at all, but her parents had said something about her wandering outside of her comfort zone. Watching Scott throw player after player to the ground made her wonder about several things. Number one, what the hell kind of a sport was this, and number two, what the hell kind of a town was this. Everyone here just seemed to get weirder and weirder. And if something was weird to the one turning into a mermaid by touching water, it was definitely weird.
¨Is he suppose to do that?¨ Shivani asked the two just as confused girls next to her. A tall brunette and a strawberry blonde. Shivani made a wild guess that the strawberry blonde was the same one who had disappeared for two days.
¨No, he definitely isn't.¨ The brunette answered, chewing nervously on her lip as she watched Scott take down yet another player. Shivani flinched at the sight. ¨I'm Allison by the way. And this is Lydia. Are you new? I don't think I've seen you around.¨
¨Yeah we moved here officially last week. My first day was yesterday. I'm Shivani, nice to meet you.¨ Shivani politely smiled at Allison. She seemed a hell of a lot more normal than the rest of the people she had met in the town. Lydia didn't even spare the new girl a look, too busy retouching her lipstick. Mentally she was preparing to face Jackson, her ex boyfriend. She wanted to thank him for saving her that night at the winter formal. She wasn't entirely sure how she'd do it without sounding desperate for him, but she was going to figure out a way somehow.
¨Not so fun being the new girl, trust me, I get it. I moved here just at the start of the school year. My family is used to moving around a lot. It isn't really something you get used to.¨ Shivani smiled as the Argent girl spoke. She seemed really sweet. The Caddel girl hadn't intended on befriending anyone, but waving to a familiar face in the hal, ways every now and then couldn't hurt. . . right?
¨Tell me about it. I'm never getting used to being the new girl.¨ Shivani chuckled.
¨Allison, your boyfriend is out of control on the field. Maybe you should buy one of those tasing collars for him so you could zap some sense into him.¨ Lydia suddenly snapped, making the two brunettes turn their attention back over to Scott McCall. Shivani arched a brow, they're dating? She could do so much better. Shivani shrugged, maybe he was a better boyfriend than a lacrosse player.
Shivani shifted uncomfortable. She could already feel the moon affect her. The worst part of being a mermaid was for by far the whole moon struck thingy that hit her like a brick wall her every full moon. It honestly made her feel like a werewolf or something. Over the years, she had managed to keep it somewhat under control. But she was still skittish around the full moon. If she had the house by herself, she would make sure to cover every window with tape and plastic bags. And if her parents happened to be home, which was rare, she'd simply close her curtains and hide under her covers for the night. She had learnt just how powerful the moon could be the hard way. . .
The girl glanced down at her phone, checking the time. School was out for the day, and lacrosse practice wasn't really proving to be anything interesting. The only reason she was even there was because her and Stiles had been partnered up for this chemistry project and he had told her they could discuss it afterwards. That, and because her mother had given her a lengthy lecture about 'branching out' or whatever.
As the girl walked down the edge of the field, Stiles noticed her. He dropped some of his gear by the bleachers to jog after her. ¨Shivani! Hold up!¨
The girl sighed as she halted in her steps. ¨Yes, Stilinski?¨
¨I thought we were suppose to catch up for that project.¨ Stiles panted. He had to get it out of the way before tonight. Scott needed his help for the full moon.
¨I'll text you my address. Come by at seven and we'll get started.¨ Stiles went to object, but the girl was already heading away from him. Shit, he really had a problem now.

The clock had ticked seven, then eight, then nine. Stiles was a no show. Shivani had shot him several text messages and called him a couple of times. She had been tempted to leave a voice mail, telling him that he sucked severly for leaving her hanging like this, but she opted for another calm text asking if he was alright and where he was.
Shivani was heavily irritated at the moment. The least he could do was respond or something so that they could reschedule. She really felt like going for a swim. She hadn't checked out the areas surrounding Beacon Hills yet. Then again, this time of year was pretty chilly, especially in the water. She could hold off until summer.
As previously mentioned, tonight was a full moon. For Shivani that meant closing all curtains around the house, blocking the moon light out. Another perk with having her parents rarely at home was this. It made being a moonstruck mermaid way easier. Sometimes she did wish she had someone, a friend or fellow mermaid, that could be there to help her through all of this stuff, but alas she was by herself.
An hour or so passed and with a displeased groan Shivani decided to call it a night. It was getting late, and seeing as it was only a Tuesday, she had school tomorrow. After making sure the lights were off downstairs in the kitchen and living room, she made her way to her own room. Just as her feet hit the first step, the loud ringing of the doorbell sounded. The sounded caused the girl to reroute to the front door. Barely letting the door crack open due to not wanting to be moonstruck, she peered out at whomever was standing on her doorstep. Stiles Stilinski.
"Hi, I'm sorry I'm a little late, hope you don't mind." The boy shifted awkwardly on his feet, shooting her an apologetic smile. "Why are all the lights turned off?"
"Because it's late Stiles, and I'm about to go to bed." Shivani sourly replied. On any other day she would have plastered on a fake smile and pretended his intrusion was fine, but the moon was putting her in a bad mood.
"But I thought we were suppose to work on the project?"
"Yeah I thought so too. Hours ago!" The girl replied snarkily. If there was one thing Shivani absolutely hated, it was when people were late. In her eyes it was horribly unprofessional as well as plain out rude. If you agreed to a time, you were suppose to be there on the exact minute. Or you could at least have the decency to show up on time. The whole point of Stiles arriving at seven was so that they had some time before the moon rose. Arriving this late without even a single text message to explain or alert really annoyed her. He clearly had no regards for her time.
"Look, I'm sorry, but you have my number. You could just ha-" Stiles paused as he looked at the several missed calls and texts from the Caddel girl. "Oh."
"Yes, oh alright. Bye Stilinski." The girl went to shut the door, but Stiles stopped it with his foot, hissing in pain.
This wasn't really like Stiles. He wasn't usually as persistent towards people he didn't really know, especially girls. Especially pretty girls. And there was no denying that Shivani was pretty. But his curiosity, as per usual, got the best of him. Stiles liked to view himself as some sort of detective of the supernatural. And his spider senses were going off the charts when it came to Shivani. Her weird behavior aligned with the fact that some creature was going around killing people had to mean something, right?
The door slid open due to Stiles foot, enough so that the strong moonlight glared the brunette in the face. It had been a while since she had felt the strong power of the moon hit her. She was usually so good at avoiding it.
God, this was going to be a disaster.

feel like it's gonna be a lil tricky getting stiles and shivani to warm up to each other as both are skeptic and kind of careful around new people. especially with stiles since he is always so suspicious of everyone, but i'm greatly looking forward to the process of the two learning to trust each other! hope u guys enjoyed.
