CHAPTER SIXTEEN
LACROSSE WITH A LITTLE VIOLENCE

"Good morning. In less than an hour, aircraft from here will be joining others from around the world. And you will be launching the largest aerial battle in the history of mankind."
"What?" Melissa McCall whispered to the boy next to her in confusion.
"Mankind- that word should have new meaning for all of us today." Bobby Finstock continued.
"What the hell is he talking about?" Melissa questioned again.
"He does this every year." Stiles informed, unphased.
"Seriously?"
"Yeah."
Shivani was standing alongside of Stiles, Scott and Scott's mother Melissa McCall. They were all listening to some dumb speech Coach was making about the game tonight. Apparently it was a really big deal. Shivani hadn't really been paying attention to the lacrosse team at the school. She only knew this and that from either Scott or Stiles. It was a little too violent for her taste. If she had it her way, she'd replace the school's lacrosse team with the basketball team from one of her favorite shows, 'one tree hill'. Now that, she would watch.
Stiles and Shivani had made an attempt to find Jackson, but they had failed. The Whittemore boy was nowhere to be found. Actually, he probably was easy to find, but the two didn't do that good of a job of locating him. Maybe they, deep down, knew that approaching him about the matter wouldn't be to any use. Jackson didn't want to believe that he was the kanima, plus he had no idea Matt had been controlling him all this time. He couldn't confirm to them that it was Gerard even if he wanted to. It was yet another dead end. They were used to those by now, but it didn't make it any less demotivating.
This night in particular was especially chilly. For every breath that left Shivani's mouth, a cloud of smoke was created, her breath chilling to a thin mist. When bored by Choach's speech, she simply puffed several breath, making weak attempts to create 'smoke rings'. Little did she know, Stiles was watching Shivani mess around in the corner of his eyes. She was kind of adorable. . .
Stiles shook his head to rid his thoughts. He needed to be on his best tonight. So he pushed the image of her face to the back of his head, desperately trying to regain focus. He had a creeping feeling that a lot of stuff was going down tonight.
The Stilinski boy was probably right about that too. If Gerard had in fact gained control over Jackson, it could only mean disaster. The man was odd, and he surely had more to his gameplay than just slaying werewolves. He was planning something, kanima or not, and Stiles had a bad feeling about it.
"You okay?" Shivani asked, pulling Stiles out of his thoughts. He settled for nod and a small smile. Shivani didn't buy it, but decided against pushing him on it. "Good luck on your game tonight. I'll be on the bleachers cheering you on."
Stiles chuckled. "Yeah, and I'll be on the bench."
"We are fighting for our right to live." Coach continued, earning cheers from the players all around him.
"Wait, is this—"
"Yeah, it's the speech from Independence Day." Stiles finished for her.
"But as the day the world declared in one voice - "
"It's Coach's favorite movie." Stiles informed.
"We will not go quietly into the night!" Shivani grinned at Coach as he proudly continued quoting the movie.
"He doesn't know any sport related speeches?" Melissa asked.
Stiles simply shrugged. "I don't think he cares." It was probably true.
"Today we celebrate our Independence Day!" As Coach finished up his speech, that by the way made no sense and did not fit at all, the players cheered once more. Slow claps sounded behind the man as Gerard stepped into view. Shivani rolled her eyes, great.
"Well spoken, coach. I might have chosen something with a little more historical value, but there's no denying your passion." Gerard compliment Coahc before turning to the young players. "And while I haven't been here long, there's no denying my pride in having a winning team for this school. I know you'll all be brilliant tonight, even with only one co- captain leading you." The last sentence sparked interest in Shivani. Both Jackson and Scott were there. What did he mean with only one co- captain? "Now, I'm your principal, but I'm also a fan. So don't think I'll be content to watch you merely beat this team. Get out there and murder them."
Gerard was definitely creepy. He was giving Shivani the heebie-jeebies.
"You heard the man. Asses on the field!" The players flooded out of the lockeroom and out on the field, leaving Stiles, Shivani and Scott behind. Scott approached Coach quickly.
"Coach, are you benching me?" The McCall boy questioned in confusion. Coach sighed heavily, running a hand down his face.
There was no denying that Scott was the star player of the team, but his grades on the other hand? Not too star like. "It's not my decision." Coach simply replied. He was obviously torn up having to bench his best player, but Gerard hadn't made it easy for him.
"But I have to play." Scott argued.
Coach shook his head. "McCall, you're failing three classes. Academics come first." Everyone on the lacrosse team had to have a certain amount of 'good' grades to be able to play. Or else, they'd be either benched or kicked off the team.
"Coach, you don't get it. You have to let me play." Scott continued. Scott was currently their best shot at containing Jackson. He needed to be on the field to make sure he didn't do anything crazy.
"McCall, no. Not tonight. Tonight, you're on the bench." And with that it was final, they were screwed.
Royally screwed.

God did Shivani hate the cold. The jacket wrapped around her body barely did anything to warm her, and she was standing completely still listening to the conversation going on between Scott and Stiles. They were standing by the benches. The game was about to start, and the two boy before her were worried it would be a tad bit more violent than usual.
"Your dad's coming?" Scott queried.
Stiles nodded, jutting his thumb in the direction of the bleachers. "Yeah, he's already here." The boy informed. Shivani stood with her arms crossed in an attempt to hold onto the little amount of warmth her body had.
"You seen Allison?" Scott hadn't exchange a word with the tall brunette since Lydia's party. He felt guitly for her mother's death, but then again, the pixie cut red head had tried killing him. And Derek gave her the bite after all. Still, there was probably no use arguing these points to the Argent girl.
"No. Have you seen Lydia?" Stiles asked.
Scott shook his head before answering. "Not yet."
"I've seen neither." Shivani shrugged when the two guys looked over at her. "But I have seen me." The lame joke was an attempt to lighten the mood. It failed. Miserably. Well, Stiles did crack a small smile in her direction in appreciation. Shivani considered it a win.
Stiles looked back over at Scott. "You know what's going on?" He was referring to Gerard and his plans tonight. It was pretty much confirmed he was the new master.
"Not yet."
Stiles sighed. "It's going to be bad, isn't it? I mean, like people screaming, running for their lives, blood, killing, maiming kind of bad?" Shivani cringed at his word use. Did he have to be so damn graphic?
"Looks like it."
"Scott, the other night seeing my dad get hit over the head by Matt, you know, while I'm just lying there and I can't even move, it just - I want to help, you know, but I can't do the things that you can do. I can't -" Stiles paused to take a deep breath.
"It's okay." Scott tried reassuring. In all honesty, Scott wasn't too sure it was okay. He had no idea how they were going to solve all of the current problems they were having. Maybe Stiles was right.
Stiles had been feeling incredibly useless lately. Every plan he had come up with had failed. He couldn't do anything right. He had manage to make a perfect line of moutain ash, that had work. That is until he had to break it in order to save Scott's life. "We're losing, dude." Stiles said. Scott had his wolf powers, and Shivani hers. What did Stiles have? Nothing but punishing sarcasm. It didn't exactly stand a chance against a bloodthirsty kanima, now did it?
"The hell are you talking about? Game hasn't even started." Coach suddenly popped up next to Stiles. "Now put on your helmet and get out there. You're in for Greenberg."
"What? What happened to Greenberg?" Stiles asked, eyes wide with panic. He had played once, maybe twice, the entire season.
"What happened to Greenberg?" Coach repeated, laughing in disbelief. "He sucks. You suck slightly less."
Stiles blinked repeatedly. "I'm playing? On the field? With the team?"
Coach nodded, rolling his eyes. "Yes, unless you'd rather play with yourself." Shivani chuckled at the comment.
"I already did that today, twice." Stiles replied mindlessly.
"God, too much information Stiles." Shivani groaned, shoving his shoulder.
"Get the hell out there!" Coach yelled, practically pushing the spastic boy towards the field. The night was now taking an even more interesting turn. . . Meaning that they were definitely not winning the game tonight. Not with Stiles on the field, and Scott off it.
Shivani found her way onto the bleachers, plopping down next to the Sheriff, Scott's mom and Lydia. "Oh, no. Why is my son running out to the field?" Stiles' dad asked in disbelief, his eyes locked on Stiles.
Melissa grinned at the man."Because he's on the team?"
Sheriff Stilinski slowly nodded. "He is." He paused for a moment before exclaiming, "He's on the team. He's - he's on the field. My son is on the field!"
Shivani grinned, chuckling slightly at the proud dad. You wouldn't really think so, because Stiles usually masked himself behind whitty comments and sarcasm, but he doubted himself a lot. Maybe he needed something like this. Being benched all season was bound to chip away pieces of his self esteem. Shivani cheered along with Sheriff Stilinski, shooting a wave at Stiles. Hopefully it would boost his confidence.
The game soon kicked off and sadly, they weren't doing too good. Stiles, despite trying his very best, was absolute shit at lacrosse. Shivani had never really seen him in action, but this made her realize why Coach never put him on the field despite having made first line.
"He's probably just warming up." Melissa said as Stiles failed miserably at catching the ball. The Sheriff sighed in defeat.
Yet another ball was shot across the field, headed directly for Stiles. He exclaimed 'I've got it' repeatedly as he ran for it, only to be brutally knocked in his ass by another player.
"Oh, he's just a little nervous. Plenty of time to turn it around." Lydia said, biting her lip as she watched the boy nervously.
"Yeah, that's probably it. You know Stiles. He just needs a little time, that's all." Shivani added, growing nervous herself.
Shivani pulled out her phone after a few 'pings' from it. It was a text from Scott that read 'I need to get on that field'. The girl looked down at the McCall boy shrugging. She excused herself from Lydia, heading over to Scott.
"How badly do you need to get on that field?" She questioned when she approached.
Little did she know that Gerard had just made a threat. A very, very gory and bloody one that included most everyone at the game dying at the hands of Jackson. Scott needed to be on that field to make sure Jackson didn't hurt anyone.
"Badly."
"Well, then watch an learn." Shivani cracked her knuckles, eyes focusing on the field. The only way Coach would let Scott on the field was if there weren't enough players on there. Shivani was going to make sure of it.
Her eyes locked on a small puddle in the middle of the field. Just as a Beacon Hills player was about to run over it to catch the ball, she froze it, causing the boy to slip, crashing into another player on his team. Both were out.
"Great job, only it's taking too long." Scott pointed out. Shivani sighed, he was right. They needed a more effective way to get Scott on the field.
As if on cue, Isaac Lahey appeared, slumping down in the seat next to Scott, smirking.
"You came to help." Scott realized, wide eyes staring at the fellow werewolf. Shivani grinned. Not that she knew Isaac too well, but she was glad he had decided to stay.
Isaac shrugged. "I came to win."
"Perfect, cause we're doing anything but that." Shivani commented, pointing to the field.
"You got a plan yet?" Isaac asked.
Scott shook his head. "No, right now it's pretty much just keep Jackson from killing anyone." He stated.
"Well, that might be easier if you're actually in the game." Isaac pointed out. "We have to make it so coach has no choice but to play you."
"How do we do that? Shivani and I have already tried. He's got a bench full of guys he can use before he ever puts me on the field." Scott quickly took notice in the smug look on Isaac's face, he had a plan. "Can you do it without putting anyone in the hospital?
"I can try."
"Lahey! On the field."
Isaac shot the two a smirk, pulling on his helmet. "Watch and learn."
Shivani had a feeling his way would be a tad bit more violent than hers. Oh well.
