CHAPTER FOURTEEN
THE DOWNFALL OF MATT
"heaven sent you to me"

"I was taking some photos, and then, purely by accident, Lahey gets in one of the photos. I look down at the screen on my camera, and I just had this unbelievable rage that fills up inside of me, and I just - I look at him, and I - I wanna see him dead. And the next day, he actually was. You know, Einstein was right. Imagination is more important than knowledge. It was like something out of Greek mythology. Like - like the furies coming down to punish Orestes." Matt explained, a sick smile making its way into his lips.
"You have no idea what I'm talking about, do you?" Matt realized when he saw the confused look on Scott's face.
Currently stuck at gunpoint at the police station, Scott and Shivani didn't have any choice but to listen to Matt reveal how he had gotten to controlling Jackson. At this point Shivani wasn't even tired anymore. Her only focus was on not being killed. Which was a skill she was suprisngly good at seeing as she was still alive, despite Matt being both crazy and very emotionally unstable.
He was like those kids who threw random tantrums when they didn't get the toy they wanted from the store, or when they couldn't eat any more candy. In Matt's case, killing was the candy. And the bad mother telling him no? That role had been handed out to Scott and Shivani, typically. Why did Shivani always have to land herself in situations like this?
"Was- was he the guy who stabbed out his eyes?" Scott guessed. Shivani cringed as Matt's face twisted with anger. She wasn't the most knowledgeable in this topic, but judging by the look on Matt's face, Scott was wrong.
"God, that's Oedipus, you dumbass!" He yelled. "The furies are deities of vengeance. Their tears ran of blood, and they had snakes for hair. If there was a crime that had gone unpunished, the furies would do the punishing. Jackson is my fury. You know, when I saw him the next night, it was like this bond had been cemented between the two of us. I knew he had killed Lahey for me, and I knew he would do it again." A creepy grin cascaded Matt's face. It made a chill run down Shivani's spine.
"So I went to Tucker's garage. I even paid for an oil change. And guess what. He didn't even recognize me. So when he wasn't looking, I took a shot of him from my camera. And in a few hours, he was dead. So I took more pictures. All I had to do was take their picture- And Jackson would take their life."
The way he actually appeared to be feeling euphoric while talking about the lives he had taken was horrifying. It made the Caddel girl absolutely sick to her stomach.
"So, did you take a picture of everyone at the police station or. . ?" Shivani stupidly asked. Matt shot her a warning look, refraining from answering. Okay, so maybe sarcasm wasn't the best defense against someone holding a gun. . . But it was currently the only one Shivani had.
All of a sudden the lights in the room went out. Instinctively, Scott found Shivani's arm, pulling her closer incase he needed to protect her. By the sounds of it, Matt was just as confused as they were. Great, just the thing they needed. This was starting to look more and more like some cheap horror movie. And Shivani was pretty sure she could predict the ending.
"What is this? What's happening? What's going on?" Panic was evident in Matt's voice as he desperstely tried adjusting to the darkness. Water was obviously the biggest fear of his, but by the sounds of it, he wasn't the grand fan of darkness either.
"I don't know." Scott admitted. He had absolutely no clue, nor did Shivani. They were just as much in the dark as Matt ( pun her much intended ).
Perfectly timed with Scott's words, all hell broke loose. Scott forced Shivani to the ground when shots fired up the station. Glass rained all around them, but a few cuts were the least of Shivani's worries right now. What the hell is going on, she thought. The only source of light was the bright moon shining. Fortunately it was enough for Shivani to crawl out of the room along with Scott. "Thanks bud." Shivani said when the two were safely away from the bullets raining inside the room. Scott grabbed a hold of the cuffs behind her back, snapping them off in a swift move. His strength was impressive.
"Go to Derek and Stiles, now. I'll see what's going on." Shivani didn't question Scott. Instead she took off running in the direction of the two paralyzed bodies in the next room.
Stiles let out a small gasp of shock when Shivani threw open the door. "What happened? What's going on?" The boy questioned as Shivani kneeled down between the two. Stiles was still ontop of Derek, which Shivani found slightly amusing.
"I don't know." Shivani quickly responded. "Can you guys move anything?"
"Yeah, my toes." Derek answered.
"Okay, I think I might know how to get the venom or whatever out of you guys." Shivani started, holding her hands out over Derek. She figured she'd test it on him, seeing as he could heal. "Hold still- never mind."
"Have you done this before?" Derek asked accusingly before Shivani could attempt it. She shot him an annoyed look.
"Have I tried squeezing kanima juice out of a werewolf before? No, don't think I have." She sarcastically spat back. "It can't be that hard. I just need to get your blood circulation to push the stuff out somehow."
Luckily for her, Derek had already punctured holes in his thighs with his claws. She closed her eyes as she let her powers feel his blood. Slowly, she began steering the venom out of his body. Derek hissed in pain, blood now gushing out of his thigh. "Eh, Shivani I don't think that's suppose to- oh." Stiles' mouth formed an 'o' when Derek suddenly got to his feet. "It worked, wow."
Shivani rolled her eyes. "What, did you think it wouldn't?" She asked, her hands now above his body.
"I'd rather not answer that seeing as you're about to do the same thing to me." He replied. Shivani simply rolled her eyes.
Once Stiles was finally on his feet, Derek was nowhere to be seen. Shivani assumed he would take off as soon as he had the chance. Derek Hale didn't really strike her as the heroic type. Which was true. He wasn't exactly bouncing in excitement, ready to help Scott and the others fight off the kanima and Matt.
"We should probably leave." Shivani suggested. Stiles shook his head.
"We can't just leave Scott behind." He refused. The girl groaned loudly. Stiles had been her ride, she needed him to get home. But of course he was a good friend. The universe definitely was not on her side tonight. Or any other night for that matter.
"Fine, let's go find him." The two snuck down the dark hallway, following the trail of blood. Soon enough the two were standing in the shadows, watching a wolfed out Scott and a terrified looking mama McCall.
Oh shit.

It wasn't until the sky was slowly turning blue that Stiles drove Shivani home.
The night had been more eventful and crazy then any other night in Shivani's night. She didn't appreaciate it. Watching Gilmore girls on repeat was so much more fun. Fighting of kanimas and werewolf hunters? Not so much.
It appeared that the ones almost shooting holes in Shivani, Scott and Matt had been a vengeful Allison with Chris and Gerard by her side. Derek was her target for the night, and apparently nothing was getting in the tall brunette's way of getting to him. In truth, Shivani was slightly hurt by the fact that the Argent girl had put her ass on the line just like that. She thought they were friends.
After Melissa had witnessed her son wolfing out, Stiles and Shivani had carried his unconscious father to the rusty blue jeep. Both Matt and Jackson were nowhere to be seen, and Allison had left as soon as she found out Derek was no longer there, along with her whole hunting party. Scott was left to deal with his mother on his own.
After helping Stiles help his father inside the house and to bed, Stiles had given Shivani a ride home. It was actually the reason he was currently sitting on her bed with a deep frown on his face.
Shivani was exhausted. She wanted nothing more than to get some sleep. But something was clearly bothering Stiles, and for some reason it was bothering her that something was bothering him. She didn't even get why. His dad was going to get his job back, Stiles was off the hook. Why was he still anxious?
"Something just feels. . . Off." He had admitted when she pressured him to tell her what was wrong. The answer hadn't really given Shivani a lot of work with.
"Off?" She had questioned back in the hope that he'd explain himself further.
"Yeah." He had responded blankly.
"Off how?" She continued.
"Like this is far from over." Stiles admitted. It felt like ever since Scott had gotten that bite, they never seemed to catch a break. And Stiles could really use a break right about now. He was drained.
"That's just a stupid feeling. Sleep on it. It'll probably be gone by tomorrow." Was the only solution Shivani had for him. He had tried telling himself that she was right, and that it probably was nothing. But he still just couldn't shake the feeling.
"Yeah you're probably right. . ." Stiles said, playing with his hands. "Look, I'm sorry." Shivani's eyes found his.
"For what?" She asked in confusion. Her back was propped up against the door frame, eyebrows pulled up in confusion.
"For being kind of an ass to you. It's just not that easy to tell who you can trust and not, you know?" Shivani felt her insides warm up at his words. It felt. . . good. She couldn't fight the smile creeping onto her face at his words.
"Yeah, you trust me now?" She jokingly said, to which Stiles actually chuckled at.
"Slow down there tiger. We're getting there." Shivani laughed at the Stilinski boy. Her laugh almost felt contagious, at least to Stiles. He had to fight off the small smile threatening to appear on his face just by the sounds of her laughing. It almost made him feel all fuzzy inside. What the hell was going on with him?
"It's getting late." Stiles started, getting to his feet.
"Getting early, you mean." Shivani corrected, pointing to the sun rising outside of her windows. Stiles nodded. "Drive safe, alright?"
"I will. Sorry for dragging you out tonight." Stiles apologized, stopping infront of the barely shorter girl.
"It's nothing." Shivani tried assuring.
"Yeah, no it really is. And thank you for helping us. We would've been even more screwed without you." Stiles admitted, although he hated to. Shivani had been to great help that night, and it was a big step for him to admit that. Slowly, he was finding himself somewhat trusting the mermaid.
"Yeah, you probably would've." Shivani joked. "I'll follow you out." Shivani said, following after the Stilinski boy.
"You really don't have to." He replied. Shivani swatted her hand dismissively.
"I need to lock the front door anyways." She excused. In reality, she actually just wanted to enjoy his company for a few second longer, but she wouldn't ever admit that to herself or anyone else. That, and she actually needed to lock the front door.
When they finally reached the door, Shivani shot the boy a warm smile. "See you on Monday?" She asked, to which the boy nodded.
"Yeah, see you then." Stiles smiled back. "Goodnight Shivani."
"Goodnight Stilinski."
Shivani remained by the door, watching Stiles until him and his jeep disappeared down the road. With a sigh she locked up the front door, heading in the direction of her bed.
Finally.
