"We all broke our rules for someone."

CHAPTER THIRTY-FOUR — LIGHT UP THE SKY

I picked up a bowling ball, approached the foul line, and twisted my body, releasing the ball.

"Oh, nice," Klaus commented, watching as the ball rolled down the lane and wipe out all the pins.

The children on the lane beside us shrieked and cheered as one of the kids managed to knock down half of the pins.

"All right, where's Five?" Luther asked, approaching us from behind.

"He left," Diego shoved his hands in his pockets.

"Oh, for the love of-Where did he go?" Luther questioned.

Diego looked at me. I shrugged back, "Didn't tell us."

"Well, we're not waiting around for him," Luther sighed. "The concert starts in 30 minutes."

I didn't think I've seen Diego so eager to follow Number One since when we all had fun catching bad guys. "All right, so what's the plan?"

"Well, I think that, uh-" Luther gulped, shuffling on his feet. "We go to the Icarus Theatre."

"That's a location, not a plan," Diego crossed his arms.

Luther's silence was enough for us to drawn conclusions.

I pressed two fingers to my temples and sighed.

"What? Is that all you got?" Diego moved towards Luther.

Luther avoided everyone's eyes as he turned and stared at the floor.

"Look, you wanna be Number One, fine." The muscles in Diego's face tightened. "But you're gonna have to get us on the same page, because right now, we're all over the place."

"You're right," Luther nodded. "We need a plan."

Klaus patted my arm furiously, "Zero, we go company."

I looked over behind Luther and yanked Klaus down just as they started firing.

"Get down!" Luther shouted.

"What the hell?" Klaus edged closer to me.

I sneaked a peek over the table, their familiar red helmets and rapid merciless firing told me that shit was going down.

I crouched back down, turned to Klaus and managed a lacklustre smile. "Oh, we're fucked."

"Who the hell are these guys?" I heard Diego yell over the gunfire.

"Maybe they're here for Kenny's birthday!" Klaus shouted back with a grin, holding his hand against his ears.

"No, I'm pretty sure they're here for us!" Luther replied.

"Allison, you find a way out, I'm going in," I told my sister, who nodded and began looking around.

I leapt into action, jumping over the table, feet hammering against the colourful carpet.

The rapid bullets soared through my body as I conjured up slivers of shadows from my palms, forming a gruesome boiling mess of liquid darkness that dripped down, hissing as it hits the ground like a deadly toxin.

Diego bounced up from his hiding spot and flung a dagger across the room, knocking one of the attackers back into a record player.

S-A-T-U-R-D-A-Y, hey!

The sound system of the bowling alley started up and the lights flickered before turning off. Bay City Roller's Saturday Night started playing over the speakers just as the disco ball dropped down from a hatch in the ceiling and bright vibrant lights danced across the place.

S-A-T-U-R-D-A-Y, hey!

My lips curled into a sly smile, the shadows glistening a molten silver in the darkness as I summoned my power with all I had. This has not been a good day.

Keep on dancin' to the rock and roll,

The gunfire never slowed. The Commission agents blasting at me with no sense of stopping. My body shimmered like rippling waters as bullets sailed through me harmlessly. My shadows curled around my body, cackling beside me as spears of shadows formed, rising around me, points sharp and dangerous.

On Saturday night, Saturday night~

I threw my arms out, flinging the spiked lances out. Several agents were sent hurtling backwards, my power slicing open their skin and the ground stained a crimson red.

Dancin' to the rhythm with our heart and soul,

Luther tossed a bowling ball towards them, striking them head-on. Klaus somehow got his hands on Kenny's birthday cake and flung it across the room, the confection landing with a thwack on one of the agents.

On Saturday night, Saturday night~

I ducked back behind the table, panting as I curled beside Diego. He managed to throw another dagger before he stooped down beside me too.

I, I, I, I, I just can't wait,

"They're blocking the exit!" Klaus shouted.

I, I, I, I gotta date!

"So, what's the plan now, Luther?" Diego asked.

At the good ol' rock and roll folk show I gotta go~

"The lanes! Let's go!" Number One shouted. We all followed his lead, standing up from our hiding spots and sprinting down the lanes.

Saturday night, Saturday night~

They never stopped firing. Do they never run out of bullets? It was a miracle that none of us was shot as we hurried down to escape.

S-A-T-U-R-D-A-Y, hey!

S-A-T-U-R-D-A-Y, hey!

We each slid through the gap of our respective bowling lanes, arriving at the back of the bowling alley and dashing out through the back exit.
