I Thought I Lost You
The first time I kissed someone was back in middle school with this boy in my gym class. He was really skinny and way shorter than me and I remember how grossed out I was after the kiss. He was the one that made a move on me and I was completely not ready for it. At that age, kissing was disgusting to me. I always felt annoyed that my first kiss wasn't a storybook moment.
Today however, was the first time I kissed a girl. And not just any girl, I kissed Izzie Stewart. When her lips landed on mine, I took in a sharp breath out of shock but I eventually moved with her in sync. The butterflies in my stomach were crazy and I knew exactly what to do and where to place my hands. She placed her hands on my neck and my hands found their way to the sides of her head. I made sure to hold her gently and not move too fast so that we both had the chance to savour this moment. I felt all my stress and worries slowly leave my mind as we kissed deeper. After what seemed like hours, we pulled away from each other, keeping our eyes closed.
We didn't say anything for a while because quite frankly, there was no need to. Everything that we needed to say, we said it in that kiss. I've never had such a connection with someone before. She opened her eyes to meet mine and I could tell she was urging to say something.
"Hi," She whimpered
"Hi."
"Do you... do you wanna come back to my place and help me with Chemistry?" I asked her and she giggled. "Are you asking me on a date Casey Gardner?"
"Maybe... or maybe because I just really need to finish the homework," I said and she laughed and I could not help but smile at the girl I was in love with. Suddenly, my phone rang, breaking me out of my trance. I looked at the phone and rolled my eyes when I saw Elsa calling me, annoyed that she had disrupted our moment.
"Casey, Paige invited the family over for dinner. Can you come to her house?" I groaned immediately. "I have lots of homework. Can't you guys just go by yourself?" I asked. "I have no idea where Dad is and he isn't replying my calls. Come on Case, Paige really likes you," She pleaded. "Ugh, fine." It's not that I didn't like Paige. I love how she treats Sam. I just really wanted to be with Izzie today.
"You gotta be somewhere?" Izzie asked, and I nodded in disappointment. "Don't worry Newton. We'll see each other in school tomorrow," She reminded.
We took our time walking back from the town. Our hands hit each other as we walked and we were unsure about holding hands. But I was completely fine with taking this slow. After all, it would give me more time to enjoy her. Once we were outside Paige's house, which was a few houses away from mine and Izzie's, we looked at each other for a while, unsure of what to do. "I'll see you tomorrow Newton. Also, I'll send you the answer sheet for the homework tonight." I stared at her in shock and she laughed. "Quinn somehow managed to get the Chemistry answer sheet for the entire year. That girl is madness," she explained and I laughed, happy that I would be easily getting my A for Chemistry this year. "But! I'm not doing that on a regular basis. If you don't try it yourself, you'll flunk the exams at the end of the year just like I did," She said and I groaned. "Then will you study with me? You can teach me and I can distract you," I said, smirking.
"You know Newton, I'd like to think my attention span is pretty good. But when I'm with you however..." She moved closer and started playing with the sleeves of my track uniform. "I seriously can't focus." The way she looked at me was full of yearn. I slowly bent down and she tiptoed. She brought my head down closer to her lips when we heard Paige's front door open and we broke away immediately. We turned around to see Paige bringing out the trash. "Casey! Izzie! Welcome to my humble abode," She said bowing down. "She's not joking. She actually thinks she's the Queen of England," I told Izzie who giggled. "Will you be joining us Izzie?" Paige asked, rubbing her hands together and I looked at her. "Thank you for the invite but I think I better head home. I haven't been home for nearly 24 hours," She said letting out a laugh and I slouched my shoulders in disappointment. "Another time then. Come on Casey, my famous roast chicken is getting cold!" She said, gesturing me into the house.
"I'll see you tomorrow," I said to Izzie who giggled and nodded. If I stood there any longer I knew I wouldn't leave so I started to walk into the house first. I turned back to see Izzie still smiling at me and the butterflies I felt were unreal. The effect this girl has on me...
It was around 10pm when we got back home. The first thing I did was message Izzie.
"Answer sheet please."
After I came out of the shower, I picked up my phone and saw no message from Izzie. I was confused because she usually sleeps later than this.
"Hey you awake?" I texted again before texting Quinn.
"Legend has it that you have Chem answer sheets" I texted.
Quinn: You're damn right I do. Here ya go!
I smiled at the picture and ran to my seat to finish up the homework which I was done with in 15 minutes thanks to Quinn. There was still no reply from Izzie though. I figured she was sleeping so I decided to go to bed too. For once, I was excited to go to school. Izzie is really everything I want in life and I've never been happier.
The next morning, I woke up the moment my alarm clock went off. I grabbed my phone and went straight to my messages to see nothing from Izzie and I frowned.
"Hey Iz, do you want me to pick you up? I'm bringing my dad's car."
At this point, I was starting to get bothered about Izzie not replying me. She usually gets up earlier than me because she lives further. I rushed out of the house, deciding to let my hair down, because Izzie likes it that way. Even though she didn't message, I decided to drive past her place just to check. I was especially worried because she lives alone. What if something happened to her? As I drove past, all the lights were turned off and there didn't seem to be anyone home. I assumed she was already in school. I picked up my phone again.
"I'm outside your place. You still at home?"
I waited 5 minutes and still no reply. I sighed and hit the gas.
I felt way more comfortable walking into school this time, surprising considering it was only my second day. I walked to my locker and smiled when I saw the track team there. "So you and Izzie spent the whole weekend together huh?" Quinn asked, as I opened the locker. "Mmhmm, speaking of Izzie where the hell is she? She hasn't been replying me since last night."
"What? I assumed she would come with you," Quinn replied. What the hell? No one has seen Izzie? I decided not to look too flustered. "That's weird," I said, closing my locker door, trying to seem unfazed but on the inside, it was killing me. "Alright girls I'll see y'all at training later. I gotta get to Bio," I said, leaving as quickly as possible. When I saw that they weren't looking, I made a quick right turn to the secluded corridor where no one was at. This corridor was nearer to the cafeteria than to the classes so barely anyone was there in the morning. I quickly slipped into the toilet, hoping that no one was there so that I could call Izzie. When I opened the door I got the shock of my life when I saw her standing in front of me.
"Izzie?!"
"Case.. Casey.. hi... I'm, I'm sorry I didn't reply you I... I just... I just..."
"Iz are you okay? Did something happen at home?"
"Look we should really get to class. And I'm sorry I didn't send you the answer sheet last night it completely slipped my mind and I just..."
"It's okay I got it from Quinn."
She nodded. Something must have happened last night but I couldn't quite put my finger on it. Was it because of me? Did I scare her away?
"Come on, let's go to Bio," I said, opening the door for her. The walk to the classroom felt long and painful. We didn't speak a word. When we entered, the teacher, Ms Wilson had her arms crossed and she stared at us as we slowly took our seats. The only empty seats were the ones right in front of her. "You girls are late. I don't expect this from you Ms Stewart," Ms Wilson said, looking at Izzie. "Sorry Ms Wilson," She muttered. "And you must be Casey Gardner? I'm going to have to keep an eye on you," She said. When she walked back to her desk, I rolled my eyes. Just 3 minutes late and she already thinks I'm a bad student. Ms Wilson was writing on the blackboard while everyone around me was furiously writing down notes. It was such a different environment here than back at Newton. I remember Bio lessons being the party periods.
"Izzie, can you tell the class how we define mutation?" Ms Wilson spoke, still looking at the blackboard. I turned to look at Izzie, who had her head hung low and her eyes closed. "Izzie..." I whispered, trying to wake her up before Ms Wilson turned around. Some of the students behind were laughing which caused her to turn around and catch Izzie sleeping. She walked towards Izzie's table. "Izzie are you really sleeping in my class?" She asked, causing Izzie to jerk her head up. The laughter behind me became louder and more prominent. "I'm sorry Ms Wilson," Izzie apologised softly, red from embarrassment. "That's a detention for you," Wilson said, returning to the blackboard. I looked at Izzie, hoping that she'll look at me but she didn't. She simply looked back down and opened her textbook, staring at it. Did she not get any sleep last night?
The rest of the day, Izzie was not herself. She looked tired and fatigued and paid no attention in any class. I thought that training would hopefully lift her spirits but I was completely wrong. She had no focus or determination and found herself not listening to any of coach's instructions. "Casey, a word," Crowley said, gesturing for me to come to her. "You got any idea what's up with Izzie?" She asked and I shook my head. "Usually when I ask her if everything's okay she just dismisses me so that's why I'm asking you."
I turned around and looked at Izzie who was on the bench drinking water. I slouched my shoulders in sadness. I missed my girl a lot. And I missed her smile like hell. Izzie left the track pretty quickly after training and I didn't get the chance to hopefully talk to her. I was packing my duffel bag when I got a notification on my phone which made my heart beat faster.
Izzie<3: Hey can we talk?
"Where you at?"
Izzie<3: Auditorium
Auditorium? That's a weird place to be at. Maybe she wanted somewhere private. I said bye to the rest of my team and jogged back into the school to find her. When I got to the auditorium, I saw her sitting on the stage, her legs off the ground. She is so tiny...
I slowly walked towards her and she looked up and smiled. She got off the stage and walked towards me, pulling me down by my neck. She connected our lips and I let go of a breath I felt like I was keeping in the entire day. "What's up?" I asked, looking into her eyes. "You look really good today," She said, looking me up and down. "I could say the same about you," I told her as she placed her hands on my stomach. "Is there a reason you summoned me to, of all places, the auditorium?" I asked and she laughed.
"I'm sorry I didn't text you back at all. Something happened last night..." She drained off. I saw her fighting to hold back tears. "Is it Nate? Did he do something?" I asked, putting my hand on her cheek. "No it's not Nate it's... my mum came back last night... drunk out of her mind... she was just throwing insults at me, and telling me how useless I am, and..." She started to break down. "Izzie you're staying at mine tonight," I started. "No Newton I don't wanna trouble you-"
"You ARE staying with me tonight. Ok? I'm not letting you go back to her," I said. "She doesn't deserve you. No one in this world deserves you."
"The whole time I was just missing you like crazy and I just wanted to hear your voice. But I didn't wanna burden you and I'm sorry I worried you."
"Hey, you are not a burden okay? And I'm here now aren't I?" I said, kissing her forehead.
Izzie sat back down on the stage, pulling me closer to her and wrapping her arms around my neck. I bent down to give her a deep and passionate kiss, letting myself loose a little considering that we were alone. After much hesitation she pulled away and looked into my eyes. "I don't know how to break up with Nate," She admitted. I tilted my head and frowned at her. "You're disappointed in me..."
"I punched the guy in the face Iz, he should get the hint," I told her. "Well yeah I know you did but... isn't it kinda wrong to be doing this if I didn't officially break up with him?" She asked. "Shut up and kiss me," I said and she laughed before connecting our lips.
I broke away and gave her the goofiest smile. "You know we should really do one of those study dates tonight," I said, looking her up and down. "And my parents aren't home so we can you know... REALLY focus," I said and she couldn't stop laughing. This dork... "Yes Casey Gardner, I would love to have a study date tonight," She said, and gave me one more peck on the lips.
"Are you girls serious!" We jumped off each other to see Coach Crowley standing outside the auditorium. "Ummm... ummm.. we..." Izzie stuttered. One thing we know about Crowley is that relationships within the team were a big no for her. She sighed and placed her face in her hands. "Oh God I guessed it..." She muttered. "It's been a long day. I wanna see you girls in my office first thing tomorrow morning," She said, and walked off the auditorium. Izzie and I looked at each other and burst out laughing. "Crowley just mad cos she ain't been getting any for a long time," Izzie said and I laughed a bit too loud. "Oh God you idiot..." I said, putting my arm around her as we walked out of the auditorium.
