Tanya (ターニャ, Tānya?) is a deuteragonist of The Promised Neverland.

Mysterious and enigmatic, Tanya has proved that she's one of the most mature children among the children of the orphanage who prefers to spend her time alone. Despite her introverted personality, she was able to make friends with some of the other children and get along with the younger ones.

Being one of the smartest children living in the Grace Field House, Tanya is considered as one of Grace Field House's four "Premium quality goods" along with Emma, Norman, and Ray.

After her success of escaping Grace Field alongside Emma, Ray, and 13 other orphans, Tanya seeks to find William Minerva, whom she believes can grant her and her friends the liberty to live a safe and peaceful life away from the demons.

Appearance

Tanya is a young, fair-skinned girl of thin build who has red, oval-shaped eyes and notably thin eyebrows. Her hair is blue, short and messy that reaches right below her chin, with locks that are lighter in shade.

Like all the other children at the orphanage, Tanya wore the standard uniform— a white shirt and skirt along with plain brown shoes. Her identification number, "63178", can be seen on the left side of her neck.

Personality

Tanya appears as a collected, cold and cunning individual. She possesses the ability to manipulate others to do her bidding and can lie with a straight face. She also has a lot of pride, refusing to surrender no matter how far into a corner she's pushed, as long as the chance for victory remains. She usually uses polite language whenever she talks to the others, but her short-temperedness surfaces when something fails to go as well as she expects it to. Despite appearing prim and proper on the surface, Tanya is actually more of a tomboy: she expressed her uncomfortableness in skirts, cut her hair short when she was younger, and shows little interest in fashion. Tanya is also something of a tsundere. 

Although she can be rather creepy at times, Tanya is actually a really kind girl; she quickly befriends Emma, Ray, and Norman after a game of tag in the orphanage when she injured herself and the three helped to patch herself up. She is also very selfless, which is evident by the fact that she willingly "sacrificed" herself to protect the other children during the escape from Grace Field, showing that she really does care despite her seemingly apathetic nature. While she's mostly a kind person, she can also be very bossy and is harshly critical of those who don't live up to her expectations, particularly Emma, implying that she's a perfectionist. Nevertheless, Tanya ultimately cares a great deal about her friends and does not hesitate to praise them when she feels that they've earned it.

In contrast to her typically taciturn behavior, Tanya also has a surprisingly childish side; when the rest of the children were playing along with the orphanage she's shown to be fascinated by flowers that grew in the garden and giggling to herself when she arranged them in a vase inside of the dining room. Additionally, Tanya is shown to care little for formalities, and can be quite sarcastic at times and is often believed to have the personality of a robot. Despite being a strong believer in justice, Tanya nevertheless believes that drastic measures are necessary sometimes. She is shown to be a good judge of character, that she's willing to forgive those who wronged her.

Tanya was considered as one of the four geniuses of Grace Field. Although she isn't as intelligent as Norman or Ray are, she is able to compete with them on an intellectual level. And is noted that her intelligence is closer to Emma's level

Tanya has astounding learning ability, which allowed her to receive full marks on nearly every test and memorize things perfectly. She has proven to know and understand Morse code.

Tanya has uncanny emotional insights as well as a great ability to manipulate her expressions and feelings, fooling even Isabella, who checked her pulse.

ᴀɢɪʟɪᴛʏ

Due to her capable athleticism, Tanya has great physical abilities and amazing reflexes. She has a lot of energy and physical capacity compared to the other orphans in the house. Tanya was always the second to last one to be caught in the hide-and-seek games at Grace Field, only being caught by Emma because of her remarkable speed.

Trivia

• A mini-game in The Promised Neverland official site revealed two manga pages for players who achieved high scores. The pages showed how Isabella named her Tanya, saying how she thinks the name "Tanya" is mysterious and ambiguous and has its origin as a Russian diminutive of Tatiana.

• Tanya has achieved a full score in all daily tests, except for four tests which she has got 265 out of 300, 276, 258, and 283 respectively.

• Tanya's original face claim is Kagetane Hiruko from Black Bullet.

• Several pieces of information of Tanya are revealed in a Twitter Q&A with authors Kaiu Shirai and Posuka Demizu.

              ○ Tanya's dream, when she can get into the human world in the future, is to eat delicious food.
              ○ Posuka Demizu described Tanya as one of the easiest characters to draw due to the simple style of her hair.
              ○ According to Kaiu Shirai, Tanya was supposed to be an antagonist since the sisterly relationship she shares with Emma would make the story "more interesting."
              ○ According to Kaiu Shirai, Tanya's running speed is superior to both Norman and Ray but inferior to Emma, regardless of whether the running distance is long or short, she would easily win against the two and lose against Emma. Emma would be first, Tanya would be second, Ray would be third and Norman would be last.
              ○ Her early drafts showed that she was planned to be a boy at first, but the idea was scratched.
              ○ Shirai and Demizu revealed that they originally thought of killing her at some point, but the idea was later discarded.
              ○ When asked who they would want to be friends with if they were in the House, Demizu said she would choose Tanya and Anna first.
