Hannah had been stuck on the night shift, Alex Karev by her side as the pair of them attempted to organise just what they were going to spend their upcoming weekend off doing. So far Alex was going to wallow in his sorrows in the bar and Hannah was pretty much convinced she was going to join him. And as the pair sat in one of the doctor's offices hidden up on the surgical floor, that was when a pager went off. At first Alex scrambled to his, desperate to see if it was him being called down to wherever he was needed. However, when a frown made its way onto his face, Hannah took the chance to look at hers which had been placed next to his on the desk just a little bit away from her, fed up with the buzzing it made when pressed against the pocket on her scrubs.

She moved quickly to check the message taking in the number which flashed up and the code connected to it. She was quick to notice that the code was for one of the ER assessment rooms, one of the major rooms. Hannah was quick to pick up the phone on the desk to call the number they had left back, ensuring that she could assess what they needed from her and work to sort it out. And as she waited for someone to pick up on the other side, she noted that Alex's own pager went off, it would appear their hours of lamenting about their lonely lives was over.

"Hello?" The voice spoke from the other side of the phone when it finally connected.

"Hi this is Doctor Cole, surgical, you've paged?" Hannah spoke into the phone.

"Hannah, it's Murph." The voice of one of Hannah's favourite ER Charge Nurses came through the phone and though she thought she had recognised it, she was happy to know she was dealing with one of her favourites. "We've got a 30 week old pregnant woman here showing severe signs of distress following a car accident, we're awaiting official CT results but I think we need you down here for a consult." The man spoke and Hannah was already grabbing her belongings including her favourite water bottle knowing that she was needing to be down in the ER for the long run.

"Okay I'm on my way, have you paged OB yet?" Hannah quieted knowing the nurse had definitely done so, but she needed to know if she was going to meet the OB resident there or not. It would be easier with them both working together, even if she was slightly jealous of the OB residents but she wouldn't tell them that.

"Yeah I'm waiting on them to call me back." Murph confirmed and Hannah finished the call. Collecting her lucky pen and her bottle and she was out of the office Alex on her feet.

"I've got a 15 year old following a fall from a roof." He mumbled to her as the pair waited for the elevator which would take them down from the surgical floor to the ER.

"30 year old following a car accident, baby in distress." Hannah whispered back and the two residents looked at one another. Neither exactly wanting to swap cases, after all despite stating he wanted to be a plastic surgeon Alex worked best with paediatric cases. And supposedly a lover of all things surgical, Hannah thrived on Obstetrics and Gynaecology cases. Just neither of them were willing to admit it aloud yet.

They would separate upon arrival in the ER each heading to their paged area as they went to assess the patients. Hannah was met by Murph stood outside Major Two seemingly waiting on the young resident to arrive so they could work out a plan of care for their patient.

"Hannah." The male nurse greeted and Hannah gave him a smile, Murph or Murphy was one of the first nurses that Hannah had met back when she was still an intern. He had always been very welcoming and nice to the young girl, helping her locate items when she was new, or when they had reorganised part of the unit. It was a form of mutual respect, and Hannah knew best, respect your nurses always. They were the ones who spent the most time with the patients they therefore knew when something had changed or when something was wrong.

"Murph. How is mum doing?" Hannah was gentle in her approach, in the way she always found herself being when it came to OB cases. She knew the woman inside was struggling with not only her concerns about her own condition but the condition of her unborn child, and she was here to support the both of them.

"The CT is back, preliminary report states potential subdural haemtoma." Murphy shared and Hannah nodded, it was enough to inform her that they needed Neurosurgery to have a look and that she would unfortunately be waking not just one but two Attendings that morning to come in.

"Hi Laura, I'm Hannah one of the doctors are you happy for me to have a little check over of you?" Hannah spoke directly to the patient once she had entered the room. She took notice of her poor state and just how clear it was that this accident was causing her distress.

"Yes."

"How are you feeling Laura?" Hannah asked as she dressed herself in the plastic gown and nitrile gloves. Taking the head to toe approach in her assessment. She used a pen torch she stored in her scrub top pocket to gently sign a light into in eyes checking for pupillary reaction.

"My head hurts so bad, everything hurts." Laura replied and Hannah knew that this headache was likely from the haemtoma that was pressing against her dura. The doctor only nodded her head as she continued her assessment moving downward to assess her breathing. She would need an ultrasound to assess how the baby was doing, but she continued her assessment of Laura first.

"Okay Laura, I'm sorry to hear that. We're just getting hold of one of the neurologists to have a little look at the scan of your head so we can make a plan to hopefully make the pain lessen. I'll need to have a check of baby as well." Hannah looked over to Murphy who remained in the room beside the door mouthing as to whether he had paged Doctor Shepard, getting a nod in response she continued on.

Noting that other than the head injury Laura appeared otherwise okay, there was not anything else pressing at the current moment in time to focus on. Though she wasn't sure about the baby and that was Hannah's next step. She was quick to step outside the room and to search the place she knew the ultrasound to be located so she could assess the baby. Only to come to meet Arizona Robbins outside of the bed space by the time she had returned.

"What have we got Han?" The blonde questioned and Hannah looked back at the paediatric Attending, unsure as to why the woman wasn't with the 15 year old but not minding, she enjoyed at least having someone more experienced with her. Because Hannah had this nagging feeling that something wasn't right with the baby.

"Laura Young, 30 weeks pregnant. Subdural Haemtoma following car vs car accident. Shepard should be here any time soon, OB seems to have gotten lost on their way. I'm a little worried about baby, showing signs of distress. Was just about to scan and see if I can find a source." Hannah replied allowing the blonde to open the door for her to bring the machine into the room.

"Hi Laura, I've brought the ultrasound machine back with me, this is Doctor Robbins she works in Paeds, we're just going to look at baby now." Hannah continued her tone she found herself reserved to use on her patients.

The beginning of the scan things seemed to look okay, but then there was something that Hannah couldn't quite work out but she knew it wasn't wrong.

"Move the wand up a little bit please Han." Arizona directed and Hannah did as she was told gently moving the wand of the ultrasound upwards her eyes widening as she took in what Arizona had noticed. She wasn't one hundred percent convinced but she had a strong idea as to what she was seeing. "What do you see?" Arizona encouraged the resident to share what she was thinking, sure that she was stood next to one of the most promising residents for Paeds if she didn't lose her to OBGYN.

"Baby's brain is Haemorrhaging." Hannah words were slightly above a whisper not wanting to startle Laura.

"And what is our plan."

"We're going to need to complete an emergency C-Section whilst Neuro operate on Laura. I'll call NICU and inform them we're going to need team for a premie." Hannah shared her plan, she waited for any signs of confirmation from her leading physician.

"Perfect, whilst you do that I'll rush Shepard. But as soon as he's here prepare to grab a rail and run, we're working on limited time here." Arizona confirmed. Hannah stepped outside the door to make her way over to the nurses station. By this point, she had almost completely memorised the mobile number of the on-call NICU consultant and Charge Nurse. And as she anxiously awaited them to confirm they would meet her team in the OR to help with baby.

The surgery itself was a blur almost to Hannah, she ignored Shepard as he did his thing up with Laura's brain. Neurosurgery just was not something that really appeased to her, rather it was pretty much the opposite. So she focused on her role in performing the C-section and implanting the drain into Baby Young so that the haemorrhage could be drained away. And as she completed the surgery she found herself questioning whether she really had gotten things a little jumbled when she had chosen her residency pathway.

It would be two hours later that Hannah would next lay eyes upon Baby Young in the NICU, gently standing outside the incubator as she monitored the drain and its output. Making notes upon the chart of which was placed just outside the incubator. She could hear the footsteps as someone else approached her, but Hannah didn't bother to look up from her charting. Ensuring that she had accurately noted down everything she needed to do so.

"How's everything going?" Came the voice of Arizona as Hannah finally looked up to see the familiar blonde, who she seemed to be spending a lot of her residency around.

"Alright, drain is in an appropriate position, it's got a slightly higher output than I would like but things appear to be doing as well as can be expected in this moment." Hannah summarised turning her attention back to the baby.

"Lovely, she's breathing over the vent."

"I wanted to suggest we trial extubation, but I'm concerned about the output in the drain." Hannah shrugged unsure what the best motion forwards would be. She was aware it was always preferred to move towards extubation if they possibly could, removing the breathing tube no matter if orally, nasally or via tracheostomy was always preferred. But part of her remained concerned about the drain output and wanted to perhaps give it a few more hours before making that decision.

"We would need to watch for episodes of apnea and continue to monitor that output very closely. What time is it?" Arizona questioned and Hannah moved to look at the digital clock upon the wall.

"Half past Eight." Hannah sighed knowing that her shift was technically over, but there was no way she was going home with the little one still there. Not when there was no other signs of family members to come in and be with them. And so she went to settle in one of the chairs at the nurses station her eyes easily able to keep a close eye upon Baby Young as she waited until there was any news about the Next of Kin. She was sure it was only going to be a couple of hours.
