1. Creatures in the Night.

A/N First chapter is dedicated to the lovely Untroubledsoul. Check her out! But seriously, she has been awesome. <3 and really the book club helped inspire me to write and push myself.

A full moon shone brightly in the night sky as the fog slowly crept in across the rolling hills and settled into the trees. Everything was quiet except for an occasional howl, that could be heard from the distance. The night was unsuspecting, just like the town which lay ahead.

In the dark, three towering men stepped out from the forest. Their gazes set upon the night sky as the stars formed a blanket above them. The moon would be their guide tonight.

These three men were special in many ways and had been hand selected for this particular mission. Frederick, Samuel, and Charles had all trained hard for many years to handle all types of situations, including the one at present. During the rigorous training, Samuel was ruthless and was therefore was chosen to lead the three on all their missions. After all, the future of their kind rested upon their shoulders, which was something none of them took lightly.

They took a moment and observed the giant barrier in front of them with a gleam of wonder and awe in their eyes. Even though they had seen many of these walls before, they had never seen one quite this powerful. The energy resonated off of it with a crackling noise.

Samuel began to survey each direction, making sure there were no immediate threats in the area and potential dangers didn't go unnoticed He couldn't sense any threats or spot anything out of the place. He couldn't sense any threats or anything out of place. Not a soul seemed to be about at this time of night, which made things easier for the three men. They were surely all tucked away fast asleep in their beds without a car in the world.

The three men took a step closer to the shimmering barrier that lurked in front of them. Frederick stepped ahead of the rest, pulled a device and began tinkering with it group and pulled out a device. He began tinkering with it until he held it up to the wall. It flashed a vibrant white before fading away into the dark of the night.

"I suppose they thought it would keep them safe, but they should have known better," Frederick said in a snide tone. He gave the other men a smug look and the gleam in his dark brown eyes was one of thrill. His jaw tightened to a more serious look as he stepped over where the barrier used to be.

"They always think they are safe," Charles said chuckling casually. His pale white teeth shone in the moonlight as he sneered. He stared into the moon as it illuminated his face. He almost looked angelic under the rays of the moon with his perfect complexion and chiseled features. His curly hair shuffled behind him as he kept his eyes trained into the sky.

The men were all looking forward to the hunt. There was always an adventurous feeling which hung in the air, and the adrenaline rush that came from it. Nothing compared to the euphoria each of them felt during their missions.

"And it makes our job easier when they are unsuspecting," Charles said while he continued to state up into the sky. His eyes began to glow an unnatural red color.

"This village has lasted quite a while. That, in itself, is more than most other villages we've 'dealt' with can say," Samuel said, but there was not a hint of sympathy in his tone. He smiled but cocked his head to the side so the others wouldn't notice. He tried to act nonchalant about his excitement.

Each of the men served a purpose when on their missions together. Frederick was the brains and often dealt with disabling barriers and other technical problems. Charles was the most charismatic of the three; he would kill with grace, but no mercy, however he still had a way with people none-the-less. And Samuel was the brawn and head of their missions. He was always cool, collected and three steps ahead of everyone else.

After they were sure the barrier was completely down and would not switch back on, they stepped through and carefully began to make their way into the woods. While walking through the forest, Samuel was on guard and watched for any sudden changes in the environment.

"The irony of this all is how naive these villages always are," he whispered to them. The towns were always so unaware of the men's presence, which made each of the missions more exciting than the last.

After a few miles, a house began to take shape through the woods. As they approached they took note of the misshapen and discolored house. The house looked to have been white but now was marred with patches of fresh wood and chipped paint. The house was pitch black but a single light shone in one of the windows.

"I figured most people would be asleep by now," he whispered to the other two.

Quietly but curiously, they all began to sneak up on the house. Samuel sniffed the air and noticed something different about the smell immediately. Something in the air felt abnormal.

Frederick pulled out a different type of tool, his fingers moved deftly across the device as he ran a test. When the test was complete and the results appeared on the screen, he held the object up and a vile grin spread across their faces.

With a sudden moment of realization, it dawned upon them what they had stumbled across.

This was the one thing their kind had been searching for. The one thing any of them would have killed for. In fact, this was something creatures of all kinds would kill to get their hands on.

"We will have to be extra cautious with this," Samuel said. His voice was barely audible. He began to back away slowly from the house, careful not to be seen.

"I hope you two realize how important this is. We can't mess this one up," Frederick added.

"Make the call, Frederick, and let the Council of Three know what we have found. It is important for us to not be rash about this. We should first try to become acquainted with the town. I want to make sure we scope everything out and know this town from back to front." Samuel said from the shadows.

Frederick lingered, staring at the house, but soon grabbed his phone and walked away. He vanished into the darkness as well.

"They will be rather pleased with us when they realize we have found something very special," Charles said to himself. And with that, Charles was the last to disappear into the cover of the night.

The three of them soon decided to make their way into town and properly "introduce" themselves. The villagers had no idea what fate awaited them.
