part three to time.

ethan sat on the wooden bench in the middle of central park. his eyes followed the busy people that walked by him in a hurry with their phones pressed to their ear. mothers and their children on the way to somewhere happy and there he was, sad and alone.
"is this seat taken?" a women wearing black pointed next to him.
he shook his head. "nope, it's all yours."
"quite a beautiful day, don't you think?"
he nods.
"oh, i have something for you!" she reaches into her pocket and pulls out a familiar envelope that ethan recognizes. she hands it to him with a small smile.
ethan sighs and takes the burning letter into his hand.
dear death,
some say that you bring relief to some situations, that you're a miracle worker in more ways than one, but i think you're evil. you took away the only things that mattered in the world to me, for why? they didn't deserve to be with you. how could you do this to me?
sincerely, ethan
he pushed away the tears that feel secretly on his cheek. "so," he chuckles, "you're death. i didn't expect you to be wearing all black. i thought it'd be too much of a cliché."
"black is poetic in more ways than one. it can represent light and dark, and i am both. i take light in dark situations and i give dark in light situations. and i put dark in your light, ethan," she confesses. "i don't think i'll ever apologize for what i've done. it's just not in my nature."
ethan stands up abruptly. "then why are you here?" he screams. "there is no reason for us to be having a conversation right now. this is a waste of time."
"ethan, im not here for me. im here for you."
he took a couple steps back. "w-what do you mean?"
she stands and reaches for his hand. "come look."
he takes her hand hesitantly and feels a weight lifted off of his shoulders. he feels light and all of his worries are gone. he and death are walking towards the light and on the other side is y/n with their daughter in her hand, smiling widely.
