Chapter Thirteen: Caught In The Moment

Any normal day I might be able to convince myself I could outrun a wolf, but these weren't any ordinary wolves. They were hybrids. They had the strength and speed of werewolves and vampires combined.

Luckily Tyler had granted me a head start, but it was only a matter of time before they were at my heels.

I could hear the pitter-patter of their footsteps through the trees behind me. They were closing in.

My lungs burn and my heart rises to my throat. I feel as if I am going to throw up.

One of the wolves jumps out of nowhere blocking my path, I stop dead in my tracks.

I am surrounded. I try to look for a way out but they circle me like a shiver of hungry sharks.

One lunges at me without warning and I grab a stick off of the ground, shoving it into its jaw. It bites the stick in half effortlessly.

Another comes from behind, wrapping its jaw around the back of my ankle. I feel the ligaments tear and I fall to the ground, screaming in agony.

I can no longer see the light of the moon as I am engulfed by ravenous wolves. I flail around, smacking, kicking and pushing them away from me, I will not go down without a fight.

The world begins to close in on me, I can feel myself losing my bearings. What the? The nauseous feeling begins to rise in my throat once again. My legs become weak and I struggle to fight back. I was perfectly fine moments ago?

I think back to the glass of wine Klaus had given me. He drugged me. Bastard.

Suddenly the wolves cease, I can hear high pitched cries as they let go of my limbs.

"Morgan! Morgan!" I hear somebody shout.

Its Bonnie, she holds out her hands toward the wolves and they writhe in pain. She release them from whatever magical hold she has on them and they scatter.

My eyelids feel heavy and my body becomes unsteady. She wraps her arms around me.

"Stay with me!" She yells into my ear.

"I'm alright, I'm alright!" I groan. "Just a little woozy."

"Sorry, I thought you were bleeding out."

"What?" I look down at my body, they had really done a number on me. "I don't feel it."

She reaches into her bag, pulling out a glass bottle and popping the cork.

"Here, drink!" She holds it up to my mouth.

It's a gross, thick texture and it tastes metallic in my mouth. It runs down my chin, between its grotesque flavour and the already nauseated feeling in my stomach I can't bring myself to swallow it.

"Come on Morgan! Don't die on me!" She shakes me and I force myself to down it.

As I do the lesions on my arms and legs begin to heal infront of my eyes. Within minutes my skin is restored to its pale smoothness.

"...How?" I ask in astonishment. "What in the world was that?"

"Vampire blood." Bonnie grins.

That's nasty, but also impressive.

"I'm glad I found you in time." She lets out a relieved sigh.

"How exactly did you find me?" I'm curious.

"When i did the spell earier I binded us, so that if you were in danger I could find you." She shrugs. "I didn't tell you because you said you wanted to do this on your own."

"Well I'm glad you did..." I pull her into a tight hug. "Thank you so much, you saved my life."

She hugs me back, the moon reflects so clearly in her dark brown eyes.

"I really appreciate everything you do for-" I don't even finish before I feel her lips press against mine.

They were warm and soft and tasted sweet like vanilla chapstick.

Our arms are still entangled in each other as I lay on the ground, I am unable to move.

She slowly pulls away, her face flushed. I am too stunned to speak.

She clenches her jaw, realizing the gravity of what she had just done.

"Let's get you home." She mutters.

I try to get up but my legs are still weak, she helps me to stand.

She drives us back to my house, I squeeze out one last 'thanks' Before stumbling inside.

I reach into the cabinet and pull out a bottle of vodka, pouring myself up a shot. I need to forget this night.

I thought I could do something but in the end I probably just aggrevated Klaus even more.

I down the shot and flop down into a kitchen chair. I go to pour myself another shot but decide just to drink it straight from the bottle. It's one of those nights.

Damon walks through the front door, tossing his jacket onto the coat rack.

"Woah, what happened?" He blinks in bewilderment at the sight of me, I had forgotten to change out of my torn ball gown and blood soaked tennis shoes.

"Damon..." I quickly change the subject. "I think it's time for a break."

"What!?" His face turns pale. "Are you breaking up with me!?"

"No, no!" I snap. "Not that kind of break!"

I try to stand up, my legs still wavering from the drugs I had been exposed to earlier.

"We need a break from all of this murderer business..." I lean on his chest for support. "We need to focus more on us."

He takes the vodka bottle from my hand and lays it on the table, he probably thinks I'm drunk but I am not even close to being drunk enough to tell him what happened tonight.

"You're right." He smiles, rubbing his hands up and down my back. "Tomorrow is Stefan's birthday, Elena and Caroline are planning a party for him at the Mystic Grill, we should go."

"I can't, I'm working tomorrow."

"Don't worry..." He rests his head ontop of mine. "I'll take care of that."

I chuckle and look up at him. My heart was full of dread but his smile had the ability to wash all of my sorrows away.

"I love you." He pecks me on my forehead.

"I love you too." I whisper.
