Chapter Sixteen: Eternity
I open my eyes, I am laying in my own bed.
I'm... alive?
I look around, for some reason everything looked clearer then it ever had before. I could see smaller details that never would have been visible to my naked eye.
Not only was my eyesight heightened, but all of my other senses were too...
I could feel every fiber of my bed sheets against my skin and I could hear the footsteps of multiple people quietly walking across the floor below, each of them having their own unique scent as well.
"I...I can't be..." I mutter, standing myself up and running to the mirror that hung on my door in what seemed like a flash.
I didn't think my skin could get any more pale then it was. I looked sick, my eyes were dark and my complexion grey.
How is this possible?
I remeber the bottle of vampire blood that Bonnie had shoved down my throat. I wonder who's blood it was?
But my fight is not over yet, I still have the potential to die.
In order to complete the transition I must drink the blood of a human. If I don't, I will starve to death and die permanently.
I really didn't want to die, yet I also couldnt fathom the though of drinking blood to survive. I weigh the pros and cons in my head. I should have plenty of time to make up my mind.
I change my clothing, it only look me a few seconds. I hadn't even realized how fast I had been going until I accidentally knocked over the lamp on my bedside table when I pulled the drawer open.
I make my way down stairs, all of the others are crowded in my kitchen.
"Oh Morgan! Your finally awake!" Caroline cheers.
"How do you feel?" Elena asks.
"Weird..." I scratch my head. "What happened?"
"We came over this morning to check on you and we found you and Damon in the driveway." Bonnie speaks up.
"Where is Damon?" I enquire.
"We used the vervain rope you had left on the table to tie him up in the basement." Stefan answers.
"You what? Why?"
"If there's any chance of getting his humanity back, I think you could do it." Stefan smiles. "He just needs a little encouragement when he comes to."
My stomach aches as hunger begins to set in. But it is unlike any hunger pains I've ever had before, it was absolutely excruciating.
I wrap my arms around my stomach to try and ease the pangs.
"We've got to get you something to eat." Caroline scratches her chin.
"I don't know if I want anything to eat..." I sigh, I don't have much to live for anyway... what's the point?
The only purpose I have in life is to live out my father's legacy, as a vampire that hunts other vampires? That doesn't seem right.
Suddenly I hear something stirring under my feet, followed by a string of angry cuss words. I guess Damon is awake.
I should go talk to him...
I open up the hatch in my floor and make my way down to my unfinished basement. It was dark, damp, and musty.
I reach up and pull the string on the light bulb above me, I can now see.
Damon sits with his back against the wall, struggling as the vervain rope burns through his wrists and neck.
"Morgan... your alive?" I see a small flicker of hope in his eyes, but it is short lived. "That's unfortunate."
I sit down on the cold concrete floor a foot or so out of his reach, this seems to annoy him.
"What do you want?" He groans.
"I just wanted to say goodbye." I fiddle with my thumbs.
"Where are you going?" He laughs.
"I don't know, I guess I'll find out when the time comes..." I look up at him and he gives me a confused look.
"I don't want to be a vampire, Damon." Tears begin to well up in my eyes. "I'm going to let myself die."
I can see his eyes soften once again, but they quickly turn back into annoyance.
"So what?" He spat.
"So.." I get up on my hands and knees, crawling toward him.
"I just didn't want to go without telling you one last time..." I struggle to find the words.
"I love you, Damon Salvatore." The tears begins to stream down my cheeks. "And I always will."
I kiss him passionately.
At first his lips were tight and unwilling, but slowly they reciprocated my passion.
I lay a hand on his cheek, it was wet.
I pull away and notice he was crying. All of the life had crept back into his glassy eyes. His soul had returned.
"Morgan..." He clenches his jaw. "You can't... I can't..."
"I can't let you go." He chokes on his words.
I look down, I feel extreme guilt for what I've put him through the last few days.
"One of the most important things to you was your right to choose..." I swallow my tears. "This is my choice, please respect it."
I quickly untie his ropes and before he is able to grab me I rush out of the house. This vampire speed is quite useful.
I run, but I don't know where I'm going. I stop abruptly when a sweet smell crosses my nose. It's a lady jogging.
I can hear the blood pulsating through her veins. The only way I can describe its smell is like your favorite food in the world, being freshly prepaid infront of you. It smelt absolutely delectable.
I shake my head and smack my cheeks, desperate to snap myself out of my hysteria.
"You're alive, huh?" I heard a familiar voice approach me from behind. It's Klaus.
"I wanted to kill you...but i was hoping by setting Damon off at the bar the other day he would do it for me." He complains. "I guess if you want something done well you must do it yourself."
"He did kill me, you asshat!" I punch him across his face with my newfound vampire strength and it knocks him over.
"So have you decided to stay a vampire?" He asks as he picks himself up off the ground. "Or are you going to let yourself die and haunt Damon for the rest of his life?"
Wait... the hunters curse... I forgot about that.
If I let myself die, Damon will be tormented by my soul until he eventually kills himself. I can't let that happen.
I clench my fists, glancing at the joggers back as she passes me by. The wind blows through her ponytail and I can smell her sweetness once again.
"I've changed my mind..." I grit my teeth with determination. "I'm going to become a vampire..."
"A vampire that hunts vampires..." I continue. "And I will finish what my father started...I will not rest until you are dead."
He grins smugly and I ignore it, I cannot resist any longer. Before I can blink an eye I am standing infront of the jogger. She runs into me and falls backward onto her bottom.
"Oh, I'm sorry! I didn't see you there!" She apologizes.
"No..." I pin her down onto the pavement. "I am the one who is sorry..."
She squirms and kicks her legs as I dig my teeth deep into her neck. Her blood runs down my throat like liquid gold, I have never tasted anything so amazing in my entire life.
I hadn't intended to kill her, but I couldn't stop myself until the flow of blood had ceased. I had completely sucked her dry.
My anxiety kicks in and I begin to panic, I've never killed anybody before.
I get up, Klaus was no longer there. He had used that opportunity to run. But as I said, I will find him, and I will kill him.
I tower over the ladies lifeless corpse and I start to cry once again. What do I do?
"It's okay... it always happens your first time."
I turn to see Damon. His wrists and neck had healed.
He extends his arms toward me and I run into them, crying into his chest.
"I know you told me to respect your decision..." He spoke into my hair as he soothed me. "But I had to come and at least try to convince you otherwise."
I look up at him and he blesses me with his signature smile.
"I'm glad you changed your mind, even if it was out of spite." He laughs.
"Oh, you heard that?"
"Yep."
"It wasn't just that..." I exhale. "I didn't want you to be affected by the hunters curse."
"Yeah... that would suck." He shrugs. "But if anybody was going to haunt me I'm glad it'd be you."
He jokes and a laugh escapes from my lips.
"So you're not mad at me anymore?"
"No... of course not." He smirks. "And I can't blame Bonnie either, your hot. If you were her girlfriend I probably would have done the same thing."
His jests calm he pounding in my chest.
He moves his hands from my arms to my face, cupping my cheeks in his palms.
"I love you, Morgan. And I will always love you, no matter what..." He kisses me, whispering into my lips.
"For thr rest of eternity."
