20 - The visit

I watched the scenery outside the window as we were flying by Taehyung's private jet.

"This really wasn't necessary... We could've just went by a normal plane."

I shifted on my seat, feeling a bit uncomfortable with the extravagance, but I also enjoyed the luxury in secret.

"I'm already used to using my own jet, so I can't fly in a normal plane... Sorry, Rena."

I shook my head. "It's fine."

"Besides, we will reach there faster this way," he exclaimed, leaning back on his recliner in front of me. "Gotta use what I have to the fullest."

I nodded.

I wondered just how much money he had. He was coughing out money every day and he still had mountains of them in his account.

I looked out the window when my mind became occupied by those diaries I found in his house again.

There was definitely something that I didn't know about him. He was hiding something from me ever since that day he broke up with me.

Was that connected to the diaries I read?

Sera...

What did that name remind me of...?

We got off the jet when we arrived at my hometown sooner than I thought.

What a convenient way of traveling...

Taehyung held my hand while descending down the stairs and I thanked him after I stepped on land.

"Why are you thanking me?" He chuckled. "Let me treat my lady the way she should be treated."

Fighting back my blush, I nodded.

"Mr. Kim," a man wearing a suit said while bowing, "your ride is ready."

Taehyung nodded at him and then turned to me, extending his hand for me to hold.

"Let's go."

"Wait, wait."

Just when I was about to ring the doorbell, Taehyung held back my hand.

I looked at him, confused. "Why?"

"I just," he stammered, his eyes wavering and darting around the place.

I pursed my lips, biting back my smile. "Are you... nervous?"

With a sigh, he shut his eyes and nodded slowly. He looked so adorable, fidgeting and playing with the hem of his shirt, trying to calm his nerves.

Who knew such a respected, well esteemed and elite man, owner of a famous corporation would be this restless at the doorstep of his girlfriend's parents' house.

I took his hands in mine and placed a kiss on his cheek. My eyes gazed into his wide ones as I said, "Don't worry, Tae. They'll like you. Who wouldn't like such a sincere, loving man who cares so much about their daughter? Even if they don't, I won't let you go."

With a soft smile, he nodded.

I rang the bell and after a minute or so, the door opened, revealing my mother.

"Oh my, you really came?!"

She hugged me tightly and exclaimed, "Oh, how much we missed you, Rena! We were thinking of visiting you ourselves."

Breaking the hug, she turned to look at Taehyung who was all tensed up.

"Are you the guy she's dating?"

"Yes, ma'am," he said, his voice cracking a little, and I covered my mouth to silence my laughs. "I'm Taehyung. Nice to meet you." He bowed.

"Ah, yes, yes. What a respectful young man," my mother cooed and walked away to the kitchen. "Come on in, you two!"

We went inside and took off our shoes before heading to the living room.

"Rena!" My father beamed once we stepped inside and I ran towards him for a hug. "How have you been, my lovely girl? Even if studies are important, being too stressed is bad, Rena. You should take a break every now and then."

I giggled. "I know, dad. I'm okay, I can handle it."

"Your brother used to say the same thing, but got hospitalized one time, remember?"

"But he's fine now," I whined. "I can handle pressure more than him."

Taehyung and I took our seats in front of him.

"What's your name, my son?"

"Hm? Oh- It's Taehyung, mister. K-Kim Taehyung. Nice to meet you." He bowed his head.

I snorted under my breath.

"So, is it true that you two are dating?"

He quickly nodded. "Yes. I really love your daughter and I promise you that I will cherish and take care of her until I die."

My father chuckled. "Are you asking for her hand in marriage?"

Taehyung's cheeks immediately flushed and he stammered, "No, I was- I mean, not that I wouldn't- But, no, I was just-"

"I understand, Taehyung," my dad assured him. "I can see that you're a good kid and I'm relieved that my daughter found someone who loves her. I believe that you will take care of her as much as we did."

"Of course," Taehyung said confidently. "I know it sounds cliche, but I will make her the happiest woman in the world."

"What an adorable kid," my mother chuckled while walking towards us with a tray in her hands. After placing the teacups and plates full of food, she took her seat beside dad and asked, "So, what do you do?"

"I own and run a conglomerate that was passed down to me from my father."

My mother's eyes widened. "Oh my, which conglomerate is it?"

"Viera," he said before sipping his tea.

"Viera?! Running such a huge corporation at such a young age... it must be hard."

Taehyung shook his head, smiling. "No, it's actually fun."

"We heard that you two were classmates before?"

"Ah, yes," he said as he placed the cup down. "I transferred into her class in my last year of high school, but had to transfer to a foreign school a few months later."

My heart stung when he mentioned that. My parents took notice of my expression.

Taehyung suddenly squeezed my hand and I looked up at him before smiling softly.

"We were dating back then, but had to break up since I could no longer be with her... Not long ago, we met again and started dating again," he said as his eyes still held me. "There wasn't a single day that I passed without thinking about her when I was away."

My heartbeat accelerated as our eyes were locked with each other.

"I see... I'm just wondering how this clumsy daughter of mine got herself someone like you."

I gawked at my mother. "Wha-"

I broke into a coughing fit again, but this time it was more painful than before.

Taehyung rubbed my back worriedly and held me in place while I coughed aggressively.

"Are you okay, Rena? Why are you coughing like that?"

"I'm fine," I strained before standing up abruptly to run to the bathroom. "I just got a really bad flu... I think it's because I'm not taking any medicines."

"What?! You should take them, Rena," my mother scolded. "Why don't you go to the hospital?"

"No, I want it to heal on its own."

I dashed off and coughed into the sink, but there wasn't any phlegm coming out.

When will this flu go away?
