01. Scared Witless

"Hana?"

A faint voice reverberated in my ears. Someone was calling my name, but my senses were almost dulled due to the throbbing pain in my head. I winced as my brows furrowed tightly with pain, and the voice got louder and louder with each second passing by.

"Hana, please open your eyes!" I felt someone tapping my cheeks lightly.

Curling up in my place, I groaned in pain as I tried to open my eyes. Squinting my eyes a bit, I peeped through the blurry vision to see the brunette kneeling in front of me with a distressed expression. I touched his hand, which rested on my cheek, and his head immediately jolted up to look at me.

"Thank god you woke up!" he heaved a sigh of relief, running his fingers through disheveled brunette locks which were cascading his forehead. And in an instant, his face looked a lot less distressed than before.

"My head hurts so fucking bad," I let out another pained groan, massaging my temple. And as if he read my mind, he immediately stood up and poured me a glass of water. His eyes were fixated on me the whole time as I filled my guts with the liquid. I knew that look very well— oh boy, I was going to be screwed!

"Your panic attacks are back, Hana, aren't they? Why didn't you tell me?" His brows arched up, his deep-set eyes piercing right through my soul. I gulped down the saliva because of the sudden dryness in my throat, even though I had drunk the water just a few moments ago.

"It wasn't t-that bad, I thought it would go away," I spoke in a tiny voice, looking at anything but him.

"It wasn't that bad? What the fuck does that even mean!? It could have been more severe! What if I wasn't there? I freaked out when you suddenly started shaking so badly and then passed out !" he busted out, shooting daggers at me.

"I preferred not to worry you... that's why I didn't tell you. I-I'm sorry," I confessed, fiddling with my fingers. His expression softened at my statement. He sat near the bed beside me and took my hand in his.

"Hana, you know that I'm always here for you, right? Don't you ever say that again! You're all I've got," he said, caressing my hand, and a lone tear escaped my eyes.

"I'm sorry, Jimin. I won't do this again, I promise," I coaxed, wrapping my hands around him and burying my head in his shoulder.

"Hey, it's okay. Please don't cry, or else your headache will get worse than it already is!" He hushed me, wiping off my stained cheeks.

"You were entirely fine for the past two years. What happened all of a sudden? When did it start again?" He questioned as he pulled away to look at me.

"I don't know...it happened a week ago, only once, though. I had a bad dream that night which might have triggered me," I half-lied.

"Have you taken your medicines?" He asked, and I shook my head hesitantly.

"Why are you so careless, huh? You need to take those medications, or it won't stop. You know that very well, right?" He now started nagging me as always, and I really wanted to roll my eyes, but I chose not to.

"I ran out of them. I was going to buy more today," I answered simply.

"I'll go buy them immediately," he informed and immediately stood up to put on his jacket. "You just stay in bed. Don't you even dare set your foot out of this room, got it?" He warned, pointing his index finger at me before he slipped out of the door, closing it behind him.

I heaved a sigh as soon as he was gone and fell back on the bed, staring at the white ceiling of my room. My head was still pounding, but it was a lot better than before. I told him that it was because of the nightmare I had a few days ago, which wasn't a lie entirely. But honestly, it wasn't the only sole reason.

For the past few days, I had this feeling- like someone was watching me, but every time I had checked, it turned out to be nothing. I'm not sure myself— I could be imagining things. That's why I didn't say anything to Jimin either.

Earlier today, when I was coming back home, I felt as if someone was following me. There was almost an eerie feeling when I was walking alone towards my apartment. The street was quiet, and not even a single soul was passing by. When I was almost near to the gates of my apartment, a dark slender presence caught my eye in the dimly lit street. My brain held me captive as a sudden terror washed over me, raising the fine hairs on the back of my neck.

I steadied my breath and tried to calm the panic, but to no avail. Fear became a tangible, living force that crept over me like some hungry beast, immobilizing me. I took two small steps backward when he suddenly started to walk towards me. My legs trembled vigorously with each step he took towards me.

"Who a-are you? D-don't come near me!" I stammered.

"Oh my god, Hana! It's me, Jimin!" He said as he stepped into brighter light, and I could finally see his face clearly. But the panic attack already had stricken me by then, and the darkness engulfed me before I could compose my senses again.

He must have been worried sick. It's been almost two years since it last happened. I still remember how flabbergasted he was when it happened for the very first time. He even cried when I woke up. He might look intimidating from the outside, but only I know how fragile he is actually from the inside.

When we both were alone and broken, we found each other, and we have been best friends since then. He has always been my Knight in the shining armor. No matter how cliché it might sound to someone, but it's the truth. If it wasn't for him, I might not even have been alive right now.

A sudden loud blare of my mobile phone caused my sequence of reasoning to abend. I looked at my mobile which lit up on the nightstand, showing 'Chimmy' on the screen.

"Did he forget the name of the medicine or what?" I murmured, and scrunching my nose a little, I answered the call immediately.

But it wasn't Jimin who spoke through the other side.

"Who's this?" I asked in pure bewilderment on hearing someone else's voice over the line.

"The owner of this phone got into an accident and is being taken to the hospital right now. Your number was on his speed dial," the foreign voice said.

"W-what?" The phone fell off my trembling hands, I was paralyzed on my spot, and my heart had suddenly stopped beating.
