The gods in this au are different from the gods in the original FTO universe.

In this au, they have kingdoms that were created by their own magic. But these kingdoms, while they do exist, they exist in another plane of existence, meaning that the kingdom exists, but at the same time it doesn't.

When the god finds someone and goes into their body, the kingdom becomes a part of the host's mind. And when the god takes over the body, the host get's sent into he kingdom, where they're forced to stay until they get control back. It also causes a few physical changes to the host's body (inside of the kingdom, not the body that everyone sees).

For example, in this story, Gallren and the people of her kingdom are mermaids/mermen. So whenever Lucas gets trapped in the kingdom, he becomes a merman. But, they are in a lot of pain once they enter the kingdom and their form changes, due to the fact that it physically changes the body.

When the god is in control of the body, they aren't around the kingdom when the body is awake, but they are when the body is asleep or unconscious.

After a while, if the god remains in control if the host's body long enough, and gain the most power they can handle, they can bring their kingdom to the plane of existence they are on.

Another thing, is that devil slayers and god slayers can enter the minds of other devil slayers and god slayers, as long as their demon/god agree to it and goes with them. They also go through the physical changes, but they don't feel any pain for some reason.
