➳ 8: growing pains

INGRID was cleaning up the disaster she had created with tears rolling down her cheeks and happened to come across some of Klaus' art. Picking one up, she stared at the pictures Klaus had drawn of her and traced the lines his talented hands had created and choked out a sob. She set the picture down with the others before knocking the rest of them off the table in a fit of rage while screaming at the top of her lungs in heartbreak and grief.

The hybrid wiped her tears and quickly sobered up after sensing a presence behind her. "What can I help you with, Damon?" She questioned but didn't turn to face him. "I must warn you, this may not be the best time."

"You killed Elena." He sneered at her, enraged, and walked further into the room.

"I needed a life insurance policy against the lot of you." She answered dully and glanced at him from over her shoulder.

Damon rushed at her with the indestructible white oak stake but she grabbed his wrist and prevented him from killing her. She pushed him against a dresser and he dropped the stake on the ground. Ingrid narrowed her dark eyes and picked up the stake with a condescending grin. "Hmmm.. Thank you." She expressed in genuine gratitude then took a step back from him.

Suddenly, someone started firing wooden bullets through the window. Ingrid turned grabbed Damon by his jacket and sped him around so he was standing in front of her with back to the shooters, using him as a shield, and he was shot repeatedly. Rebekah made the mistake of walking into the room at that particular moment and was shot through the heart with a wooden bullet causing her to fall to the ground, temporarily dead. Ingrid grabbed ahold of Damon by the shirt collar and sped them both out of the house.

When they got to the boarding house, she let go of the Salvatore and Damon collapsed to the floor with a painful groan. He gasped loudly and glanced up at the Original in desperation. "Ingrid! I need you to get the bullets out."

"Alright." She mused dully then crouched down next to him and rolled up her sleeves. "However, I need something from you first."

"What?" He snapped in aggravation and discomfort.

She dug her fingers into one of the bullet holes and twisted the bullet causing him to shriek out in pain. "You, your friends, your brother, you will all leave me alone." When she noticed he was about to reject, she dug her fingers deeper into his flesh.

"Fine, fine! Fine!" He yelled in agony, giving into her one simple demand.

"Good." She praised with the smallest of smiles then harshly pulled the bullet out from his back. "Fair warning, this will hurt."

He groaned while panting heavily for breath. "Yeah, thanks." He replied sarcastically causing her to laugh lightly in amusement and yank another wooden bullet out.

Across town a black van was being escorted by two police cars with one in front and one in back. Inside the van, Rebekah woke up, groggily as Caroline sat beside her, watching. Rebekah struggled to get out of the ropes tying her down.

Suddenly, the wheels of the van started to screech and the vehicle flipped over onto its side. Inside, Caroline and Rebekah were sent flying and although they were fine, they were in shock.

Outside of the van, one of the police cars had been completely destroyed and another silver SUV was seen with its front end smashed in. The other police car that was escorting the van whipped around and started to drive back toward the van. Meanwhile, Tyler Lockwood broke off the back door of the van and went inside to rescue Caroline, who gaped up at him in shock and disbelief. "Tyler?"

The hybrid smirked over at her and arrogantly replied. "I'm harder to kill than you think." He then ripped off the vervain ropes tying her down.

Caroline started crying in happiness and shook her head back and forth, unable to process the news. "You're alive? How are you alive?"

He finished ripping off the ropes and helped her up. "No time. Come on, we've got to go."

"Wait, what about me?" Rebekah questioned in mild offense, holding her hands out.

He looked down at her with a smile and whispered lowly in her ear. "Keep 'em busy, little sister!" Then he winked before standing up and leaving the van.

"No. That's not possible!" She struggled to free herself but gave up and leaned her head back against the metal just as a police officer came by the van and injected her with more vervain.

Caroline sped Tyler to a tree and began to kiss him passionately. Tyler attempted to pull away but she did so herself and glanced at him in relief. "I never thought I'd see you again! I don't get it. How are you alive?"

"This is going to sound incredible, but I...." Tyler attempted to explain but Caroline silenced him with a kiss and began to take off his jacket. Tyler pulled away quickly and held his hands up. "Easy, love. Wrong place. Wrong equipment. Wrong woman. After all, I am married."

"Did you just call me "love"?" She glanced at him in confusion, her perfectly sculpted eyebrows furrowed. "Did you just say... married?"

"I don't know, love. Did I?" Tyler responded, tilting his head to the side and smiling.

"What the hell did you do to Tyler?!" Caroline asked defensively, furious when she realised that it wasn't Tyler Lockwood but actually Klaus Mikaelson. She then pushed her hands against his chest in anger, pinning him to the tree. "Oh my God, you're Klaus. You're disgusting!" She sneered in disgust, taking her hands off him completely and backing away.

"As much as I'm sure Tyler would have enjoyed this... I have to say it was mediocre for me as well." Klaus commented with an unimpressed expression earning himself a slap across the face from her. He glared over at her with a clenched jaw. "Listen, I didn't have to risk exposure to come save you."

Caroline turned away from him and groaned loudly into the air. "Oh, you do one semi-decent thing and now you're my hero? Oh, I need to go sanitize my mouth!" She yelled, harshly rubbing her mouth with the back of her hand.

"Your mouth was all over me. I was an innocent victim." He remarked with a serious tone of voice.

Caroline turned to face him with a harsh glare. "Put Tyler back!"

"Gladly. I'm not to sure Ingrid would find the same appeal for Tyler Lockwood as you" Klaus mocked, looking at her with a smirk before walking away.

Ingrid returned home to the mansion and walked up the stairs, she stopped at the top and let out a heavy breath of air. She was debating on where to go until she heard movement coming from Klaus' room. She snapped her head in that direction, her eyes glowing amber-gold, and slowly walked toward the source of the sound.

The closer she got to what was responsible, the more she began to smell the signature scent of blood. Ingrid paused for a second, taking in a deep inhale before sneering to herself. "Elena."

She made her way toward Klaus' room again and opened the door without any second thought. She wasn't sure who to prepare herself to see but it surely wasn't the person she came face to face with. The Original froze in her spot while her undead heart began to pound wildly in her chest. She began to process the fact that her late husband was standing before her, unscathed.

Klaus straightened his posture and readied himself for a far worse reaction than the one Rebekah gave him. He was relieved to see Ingrid standing in the doorway, however, he was terrified of how she may respond to his miraculous resurrection. He was expecting an angry, violent reaction or for her to yell at him at the top of her lungs. What Klaus didn't expect was for her to storm toward him, pull him down to her level by the back of his neck, and kiss him passionately on the lips.

He was caught off guard at her suddenness before melting into her embrace and kissing her back. He placed his large hands on either side of her face, his fingertips tangling in her long brunette hair. Klaus sped them against the wall, trapping her with his body. She moaned into the kiss before jumping up and wrapping her legs around his waist.

His hands left her face and traveled down her body. He placed one hand on her thigh and wrapped the other tightly around the sides of her neck and pulled her lower lip slightly with his teeth. She opened her eyes enough to gaze down at him through her thick eyelashes. Her glances seductively and affectionate.

He growled lowly as she closed her eyes and reattached their lips, tugging on his blond curls. Ingrid tightened her grip before speeding them over to his bed with her on top, straddling him. She pushed his shoulders down on the bed and hovered over him for a moment, smirking down at him.

Klaus sat up, pushing her forward, and placed a hand on the small of her back and kissing her affectionately on the lips again. Their heated moments of hunger and need began to turn into one's of slow passion and intimacy. He ran a hand down her spine causing goosebumps to form across her skin.

She grabbed ahold of his face in her hands as their lips moved together in a gentle motion, matching each other's breathing pattern. He pulled away, their lips hovering centimeters away from each other. Klaus slowly opened his blue eyes to see her dark brown eyes staring down at him in confusion. He worked up the courage to whisper those three simple words he hadn't said to her in over a millennia. "I love you."

Ingrid grinned widely and stroked his face with the pads of her thumbs. "I love you, Niklaus." She expressed genuinely then looked at him emotionally, her eyes darting back and forth. "Do not leave me like that ever again." She ordered sternly, tears pooling in her eyes.

Klaus didn't have to ask what she meant, he knew exactly what she was talking about. He nodded while brushing a strand of hair out of her face. "Never again."

"Good." She mused happily, placing her forehead against his and closing her eyes for a brief moment. Ingrid then sat back with a mischevious smirk and pushed him down onto his back again. Klaus chuckled at her forwardness before leaning up to kiss her in warmth and raw emotion.

Ingrid was buttoning up her blouse as Klaus lied on his bed, giddy and on cloud nine with no clothes on. He grabbed ahold of her hand and attempted to pull her back to him. She chuckled and looked back over her shoulder at him. She raised an eyebrow with a smirk before turning around to lean over, kissing him. He instantly kissed back and was about to initiate another round when the hybrids popped their heads up with golden-amber eyes. They glanced at each other, their yellow eyes meeting, and matching smirks on their faces.

"We have company." Ingrid remarked with a sinister facial expression.

They sped downstairs to come face to face with the Salvatore brothers. Stefan was glaring at Ingrid, so enraged he didn't even notice Klaus standing beside her. Damon gaped at Klaus in shock and turned to Ingrid, his mouth hanging open as he processed the information.

"What can we help you with?" Klaus questioned with an amused smile.

"How the hell are you alive?" Damon asked in confusion, speaking up.

"I took Tyler Lockwood on as a vessel. Thus saving myself and you're entire bloodline. You're welcome." Klaus arrogantly answered.

Ingrid chuckled to herself then turned to Damon with a fake pout. "It was my understanding that you agreed to leave me alone."

Damon shrugged nonchalantly and made a helpless facial expression. "Seems my brother doesn't quite agree."

"It's your fault Elena is a vampire." Stefan snapped at her, angrily.

She pursed her lips and leaned her chin forward slightly while pretending to remember. "Ahh yes, Elena... See I understand why you are angry. I do." She remarked with a feigned sympathy then held a hand up at her side, tilting her head to the side. "However, nothing we can do about it now." When he charged at her with a wooden stake, Ingrid grabbed his wrist effortlessly and pushed him back. She picked up the stake and laughed, spinning it around. "You knew that would not work. Don't be stupid, Stefan." She advised with narrowed eyes then smirked deviously. "See, you would assume that you would focus on helping her transition. Besides, you cannot kill me. Not without killing Elena." She reminded them with a pointed look then motioned to Klaus with the stake. "You cannot kill Niklaus without killing yourself."

Klaus smirked with a low chuckle, taking a step toward her. "Seems we're at a stalemate here, boys."

The vampire glared at each other until Elena came running through the door, desperate to stop the Salvatores before they did something to get themselves killed. She stood in between the couple and the brothers, hoping to keep the peace. The doppelgänger pleaded for her friends to leave, mostly staring at Damon as she spoke. However, Ingrid grew irritated at her involvement and threw her head back with a low groan. "Elena, enough!" The Original snapped in aggravation then rolled her dark eyes. "Stop talking." She demanded as Elena backed off her position to make them leave.

Damon glared at her then tried to grab Elena's arm, guiding her away from the Mikaelsons. "Elena, you shouldn't be here."

"I would listen to your boy toy over there. I am sure he knows best." Ingrid commented in a joking fashion then watched as Elena nodded slowly in understanding. The hybrid raised an eyebrow at this and watched closely as she gave her next set of orders. "Alright, since we're agreed that it would not be beneficial to kill us... I would say that we are finished here. Elena, why don't you round up your morons and get out?"

The doppelgänger turned toward the brothers and attempted to coax them away from the mansion with a defeated sigh. "She's right. We can't kill them without killing ourselves. We don't even have a white oak stake so you're just wasting your time. Let's go." She suggested then walked passed then toward the front door. The Salvatores paid no mind to her willingness to avoid confrontation because that's how Elena was and followed suit, sending the Originals glares on their way out the door.

Once they were gone, Klaus stood in front of Ingrid with an overjoyed expression. "Are you aware of what just happened?"

Ingrid nodded slowly with a sneer, glancing at him in distaste. "Elena Gilbert is sired to me."
