➳ 71: wild at heart

KLAUS and Ingrid were enjoying their morning by spending it completely naked underneath their sheets. Klaus was hovering overtop of her, placing kisses down the soft, bare skin of her back. She giggled happily and reached over to cup his face with her hand.

He let out a low, husky laugh against the back of her ear, sending shivers down her spine. "Mmm, good morning, my darling."

"Good morning, love." She greeted back in a groggy tone with a wide smile. Rolling over on to her back, she pulled Klaus down to the bed next to her. She tugged the sheet over their heads and trailed a hand down his chest while softly biting her lip.

The sound of footsteps entering their room caught the hybrids off guard and they removed the sheet to see Elijah standing in the doorway with a sneer of disapproval. "So pleased you can find the urge to indulge after you brutally murdered Hayley yesterday." He remarked sarcastically and rolled his eyes.

Groaning in aggravation, Ingrid sat back against the frame of the bed while making sure she was covered where needed. "I see we still haven't learned boundaries." She mused condescendingly then held a finger up in confusion. "See, weren't you the one begging for my forgiveness a few months ago? Is it safe to say you no longer want it?" She questioned mockingly as Klaus laughed from beside her. Sighing, she rolled her eyes in frustration. "As I explained before, her time was up. She was of no use anymore."

"We don't use people, Ingrid!" Elijah snapped.

"Oh..." She mused in feigned cluelessness and raised an eyebrow. "So, why do you continue to use Marcellus after I've specifically asked you to stop? What you mean then is... we shouldn't use people you don't want us to... Marcellus is family and he deserves more respect then you seem to be willing to give him. And since he is family, he should be more aware of our plans. Stop leaving him out."

"We cannot trust Marcel completely as there still is a threat. He isn't cleared of any possibility." Elijah reminded her sternly and she shot him an unimpressed look. "Hayley was of no threat."

"How do you know?" Ingrid asked curiously, hoping to prove a point of his hypocrisy.

"And what of Tristan?" Elijah interrogated further, rage seeping through his tone as he ignored her question. "Can you imagine how Aurora will react when she finds out?"

"She won't find out." Ingrid answered in a confident manner. "She, just like the Strix, will think he's suffering at the bottom of the ocean. Besides, she'll be long dead before she were to ever figure it out." She explained then scoffed and pulled the sheet tighter as she sat up. "What's with the Q and A so early in the morning?"

Elijah pulled out an empty blood bag from his jacket pocket and held it for them to see. He sighed heavily in exasperation and glanced at them. "This is from Camille..." he trailed off and watched their reactions. Ingrid harshly rolled her eyes with a groan while Klaus looked annoyed. "Just refresh my memory, Niklaus-- was I the one who impulsively handed her a daylight ring?" Elijah questioned then continued on before anyone else could respond. "Oh, no, that's right. It was you."

Klaus rolled his eyes and sunk down in the bed. "She left, didn't she?"

"Shocking turn of events, yes." Elijah replied sarcastically. "So, why don't you two go and find her? I shall deal with the growing nightmare of our family's potential extinction."

"Yes, always the diligent defender, despite the fact that the danger has somewhat subsided, what, with Tristan de Martel now sleeping with the fishes?" Klaus reminded then smirked at Ingrid. "Metaphorically, of course."

"A darker threat remains. Now, if something out there is capable of killing us--" Elijah lowered his voice to a mocking whisper. "--We should probably find it."

Ingrid held a finger up with a tight-lipped smile. "So a few questions. One, why am I tasked with finding Camille?"

"Frankly, I don't wish for your company at the moment." Elijah sneered furiously at her.

Laughing, she licked her lips and continued on. "Okay... you're not exactly the ideal companion that you think you are. So, two, how are we so sure the threat isn't you?" She asked, motioning between herself and Klaus with the word we. "It did say one by family and you seem to be a worthy candidate for that role."

Sighing in aggravation, Elijah pinched the bridge of his nose. "You two are always so terrified of betrayal yet if I remember correctly... you're the only ones betraying your own family."

Ingrid paused for a brief moment, soaking in his words, before laughing loudly, almost mockingly, at him. "Us? Why are you always so quick to point a finger in our direction when something goes wrong?" She snarled out in disgust. "How easy it is for you to use either one of us a scapegoat for your own issues. Need I remind you, Elijah, you kidnapped my daughter and practically pawned her off to the backwoods swamp monsters? How about the mere fact that you had to dagger us to do it? And lest we forget Rebekah."

"I cannot fathom what goes through that poisoned mind of yours." Elijah insulted harshly then shook his head. "I can only hope your daughter doesn't fall prey to it."

Ingrid's smirk fell just as Klaus quickly slipped on his boxers and sped toward his brother. His face was cold and unamused. "I think we're done here." He informed Elijah sternly and stood in between him and Ingrid. "You've said your peace, now you need to leave."

Ingrid pulled the sheet tightly around herself and stood to her feet. "Was it not you who said under threat, we take action? You don't have to agree with what I do and frankly, I could not possibly care any less but I'm doing what I have to do to save this family and in case you've forgotten, that includes you." She reminded Elijah, jabbing a finger aggressively into his chest.

He took a step closer to her with an expression of burning hatred and glared. "You killed Hayley."

"I made Hayley." She sneered back at him. "She turned out to be a disappointment." Ingrid commented in a dull tone of voice then took a deep breath and closed her eyes. "Elijah, she broke your heart. Repeatedly. Yet you stood by her side even when it meant going against your family. She died as a consequence of her own actions. Seeing how Jackson was dead, it was a great opportunity." She said nonchalantly. "Standing here, berating me and being snarky isn't going to bring her back or whatever else you want from me. It's just going to make it hurt longer."

Elijah stared at the hybrids for a moment before realizing he didn't know what he wanted from them. If it were possible, he would have made Ingrid bring Hayley back but it wasn't possible. Barging into their room and being condescending wasn't going to help him. Sighing loudly in both frustration and disappointment, Elijah turned on his heels and walked out of the room without another word.

The couple glanced at each other with equally annoyed side eyes then Klaus rushed to the door and closed it before speeding toward Ingrid and throwing her down on the bed. Ingrid bounced up off the mattress and landed flat on her back with a genuine giggle. He climbed on top of her with a seductive smirk and attached his lips to her neck. "Shall we continue what we started?"

Later on in the morning, Klaus went off to find Cami while Ingrid stayed behind to watch Hope. The compound was peaceful until Klaus and Cami stormed in, continuing a fight that seemed to have been going on since they left Lucien's apartment.

Cami yelled angrily at Klaus as she entered the courtyard. "You have no right! Those dark objects are my family's legacy."

At the sound of her voice, Ingrid felt her lips curled up into a snarl and she walked out of the study, out onto the balcony above them.

"Well, that's funny, because I seem to remember my brother Kol making them, so perhaps they've been my family's legacy all along!" Klaus snapped in frustration and turned his back to her.

Cami sped in front of him to block his way before she sneered at him coldly. "Give them back, or I will take them back, and I swear you will regret this moment." She threatened menacingly.

Ingrid burst into a loud fit of laughter that echoed above them and she held onto the railing for support as she kneeled over, unable to stand up straight from laughing quite too hard. "It's---it's like a mouse threatening a snake." She said on between her fits. Shaking her head and wiping away a few stray tears, Ingrid straightened herself out and sighed in satisfaction. "That's... thats good."

Klaus had to hide his amused smirk, not to anger Cami any further, and looked at the blonde with a blank face. "The only thing I regret is failing to realize how annoying this was going to be."

Cami continued to stare at Klaus and moved in so they were nearly nose-to-nose. "She was right, wasn't she? Aurora? She did this to turn you against me, to rob me of the one advantage I have over her... My humanity. And me, like this? It's a problem for you, isn't it? The fact that I am out of control and it's now a problem for you." Klaus scowled at her accurate assessment, which only made Cami even more smug. "I'm out of your control, and you hate it, don't you? You have spent ten centuries getting the entire world to tremble at your name, but you're the one who's terrified, Klaus. You are a scared little kid, convinced he'll be tossed aside the second he isn't needed."

Klaus laughed at her assumption and shook his head. "You couldn't be further from the truth. I don't need you so I don't fear being tossed aside, as you so kindly put it, by you. You pose an inconvenience for my family, especially my wife. I don't need your constant judgement or your analytical stand points on who I should be. I didn't need you and I don't need you. You needed me." He informed her in an honest tone and watched her face fall. "Your lack of self-control is what will get you killed and in the end, you can only blame yourself.

Elijah entered the room causing the group to look at him. He turned to his brother with a serious expression. "Niklaus." He said before looking at his sister-in-law. "Ingrid. A word?"

Elijah walked up the stairs and to the study, passing Ingrid on the way. Rolling her eyes, Ingrid pushed off the railing and followed after him. Klaus sighed heavily before doing the same. They joined Elijah in his study, where he was explaining what he learned earlier, along with his own research. "I thought the pale horse might be something Biblical, or even tied to one of the equestrian constellations. There's Pegasus, perhaps even Equuleus."

Klaus sighed in annoyance and frustration. "Neither of those sounds like a weapon, unless they plan to bore us to death." He commented, flopped down on the couch behind him. "You know, it would be nice if, just once, the witches bloody well said what they mean."

Elijah shot him a significant look and began to scold him. "Camille has just turned, Niklaus. Leave her be."

Klaus scoffed and threw a hand up. "I would very well had she not decided to take what doesn't belong to her."

"She's already served as a pawn in Aurora's games. Her distance would be a mercy." Elijah sighed then made eye contact with Klaus and looked at him pleadingly. "I need you. Both of you." He said softly, glancing at Ingrid in a desperate manner. "A storm is coming."

Klaus, knowing that Elijah was right, reluctantly nodded in agreement. The brothers turned to Ingrid, awaiting her response, and she stared back at them for a moment before sighing heavily and rolling her eyes but otherwise nodding in agreement.

When they exited the study, the trio realized that Cami was no where to be found. Klaus noticed Freya in the courtyard and questioned her in confusion. "Where's Camille?"

"She went home." The Mikaelson witch answered. "She said she needed time."

"Honestly it's for the best." Ingrid commented with her arms folded over her chest. "Adding her into the equation this late in the game is just going to make matters worse."

"Yes. Our main focus is to find the weapon and keep our family safe." Elijah agreed as he nodded his head.

"Well considering the clue to the weapon could be anything, I'd say we have a lot of work to do." Freya remarked with an annoyed facial expression.

"And I think it's common knowledge that our ideas of keeping family safe are vastly different than some." Ingrid commented knowingly. "Does anyone know if Rebekah is safe wherever the hell she is?"

"Rebekah is safe." Elijah assured them a tad bit too quickly. The Mikaelson women turned to face him with suspicious looks on their faces and before they could question what he meant, Klaus spoke up.

"I know what the weapon is." He said with a dark laugh. "I made it myself."

Klaus began frantically searching through shelves and boxes in his study while Elijah and Ingrid watched with concern. "All my efforts to protect and provide comfort for my family..."

"Klaus, you're not making any sense." Elijah said in worry, taking a small step toward him.

"The pale horse!" Klaus yelled in frustration, throwing several books to the ground as he searched. "It isn't a constellation, nor is it a Biblical verse. It's a... a trinket I made when we were children. A toy carved from kindling which I gave to Rebekah in the hopes of easing her fears."

Elijah frowned in confusion, reminiscing about the memory. "I collected the firewood myself. It was fallen branches from everywhere, and..." his eyes widened in alarm when he realized what Klaus had figured out. "The horse was made of the white oak... That weapon is here."

"It was!" Ingrid agreed quickly. "I saw it earlier. It..." She trailed off, racking her brain for the exact location of the small wooden horse. "It was in the play room." She snapped her fingers and took off down the hallway with the brothers following close by. She stood in the middle of the room and scanned quickly before aggressively looking through the toy boxes. "It was here!"

Klaus suddenly got an idea and turned toward her. "When?"

Ingrid paused in her spot and her eyes moved rapidly back and forth, trying to remember when she last saw it. "This morning. It was... Right before you and Camille started arguing about dark objects. That's the last time I saw it, Niklaus. I swear it."

He sighed deeply when he realized what that meant. "Oh, I believe you, my love. We're just here a little too late." He informed her in disappointment causing the other two to frown in worry.

Klaus smiled weakly but it was clear he was very unhappy about what was discovered. "There s only one other person capable of deciphering the witch's riddle, my former therapist."

He then pulled his phone out from his pocket and dialed a phone number into the key pad. It rang for a few seconds before the recipient answered the call. "I'm guessing you might be a little bit mad right now... But trust me, you have nothing to worry about. I just want back what's mine, starting with my dark objects, and I figured I needed to get your attention. So, do I have it?"

Klaus sighed and closed his eyes for a moment before responding. "In point of fact, you do."

"Good. Then we'll be in touch." Cami mused smugly before hanging up the phone.

The three Mikaelsons glanced at each other with dreadful expressions and Ingrid ran her hands down her face with a loud groan. She threw her hands up and stared at the space in front of her for a second then looked up at her family. "I can't wait to kill her."
