➳ 52: i love you, goodbye

CAMI, who was holding Hope, and Elijah walked in the courtyard after their encounter with Finn. Elijah had set the safe house in Arkansas on fire with Finn inside of it when he managed to find their location before making a steady rush home.

At the sound of their arrival, Ingrid ran down the stairs and made her way straight toward them. She immediately took her child from the blonde's arms and held Hope close to her body, placing a hand on the back of the infant's head. Closing her eyes with a loud relieved sigh, Ingrid smiled widely to herself. "Thank God."

Klaus, not that far behind his wife, walked toward them and wrapped his arms around his family, kissing each of their foreheads. He let out a small breath that he wasn't aware he had been holding in and closed his eyes, soaking in the time with his family.

Elijah watched the couple adoring their child and motioned for Cami to leave them alone. Before he left the room, Ingrid looked up and shot her brother-in-law a grateful and relieved smile. Elijah nodded curtly and smiled back then walked out of the room.

Hope made a squeaky excited noise and chewed on a little teddy bear causing the couple to laugh gleefully. The hybrids' hearts were both finally full and complete.

Klaus and Ingrid were in their room getting ready for Hayley and Jackson's wedding. Ingrid was putting on a pair of earrings and Klaus was tying his tie while Elijah stood in the doorway and began to lecture them on the behavior he expected from them that night.

Ingrid rolled her eyes at him from the mirror and turned to face him with an unimpressed look. "Elijah, we are not children. There is no need to berate as such." She remarked in an overly polite tone then smile patronizingly. "We will be on our best behavior."

When Elijah shot her an unconvinced look, Ingrid rolled her eyes again and placed a hand over her heart. "I am offended by your lack of trust." She added in a fake sad tone then smirked with a chuckle. "Now, I can assure you that I'll be on my best behavior. However, I cannot speak for Niklaus." She joked with a look causing the other hybrid to scoff at her while she laughed and winked at him.

"I mean it. Don't do anything to ruin this." Elijah shot them each a stern look before turning on his heels and walking out of the room.

"You would think he'd want to ruin it." Ingrid commented with a flat lipped expression.

"Unfortunately, he's not selfish enough to." Klaus replied with a small frown and walked toward her with an affectionate smile. "I know it's unconventional to say on a day like this... but you, my love, are the most beautiful woman at this wedding."

She wrinkled her nose at him and scoffed, waving her hand at him. He began to laugh and wrapped his arms around her waist, pulling her close to him. "I mean it."

"You have to say that, we're married." Ingrid commented with a small smirk and straightened out his tie.

"True but I meant it. I know you may find this hard to believe--" He mocked her with a wide smile. "--but after a thousand years, I still think you're the most beautiful woman in the entire world."

She stared up into his light blue eyes, searching for any sign of exaggeration. Realizing that there was none, she smiled genuinely at him and placed her hands on his shoulders. "I love you."

"I love you." He affectionately replied with a smile before leaning down and kissing her on the lips.

The invited guests, both vampires and werewolves, began to seat themselves in the ballroom just before the ceremony was about to begin. Hayley slowly walked to the doorway to the ballroom and stood still for a moment as all the guests stood from their seats to greet her. She nodded at various people when she noticed them and waited for Jackson, who appeared behind her a moment later. Hayley and Jackson clasped hands and smiled at each other as they walked down the aisle.

When they reached the two staircases, they split apart so they could each walk up the two staircases and meet on the balcony, where Mary was waiting for them to preside over the ceremony. An orchestra played softly as they made their ascent and they smiled at each other from across the room until they made it to the altar.

"Please, be seated." Mary ordered with a smile and everyone sat back in their chairs. "We gather together as a community seeking peace, inspired by this couple standing before you."

Across the balcony on the other side of the courtyard, Klaus and Ingrid stood by and watched the ceremony. Klaus reached over and grabbed onto Ingrid's hand, pulling it toward him. Turning away from the ceremony, she smiled up at him and he barely looked at her from the corner of his eye but he smiled nonetheless.

Elijah joined them a moment later and stood next to them, a blank look rested on his face. Ingrid reached over with her free hand and set it on his shoulder in a comforting manner. Elijah didn't react but he reached up and set his hand on top of hers, squeezing it gently.

"There was a time when werewolves saw themselves not as cursed, but blessed with connection to our most pure selves. And tonight, we honor that blessing with the long-awaited unification of the two Crescent bloodlines." Mary performed a hand-fasting by binding Hayley and Jackson's wrists with baby's breath flowers. "In doing so, we choose to embrace Hayley's vampire nature. With this union, Hayley will share her unique gifts with her pack." Mary placed a long lit match into Hayley and Jackson's linked hands to light their ceremonial candle. "And now, your vows."

Jackson took a deep, shaky breath and smiled at his bride. "I pledge to honor you and defend you and yours above all others."

"To share in blessings and burdens. To be your advocate, your champion." Hayley added strongly, her hands shaking slightly in anxiety.

"To be your comfort, your sanctuary, and for as long as we both shall live." He continued nervously.

"To be your family." Hayley ended their vows.

"To be your family." He repeated with a grin and nodded in her direction. Then they smiled at each other and lit their candle together.

Elijah watched and his dark brown eyes glistened in the light, meaning he was on the verge of tears. Ingrid squeezed his hand tightly and leaned her head onto his shoulder. "It's okay." She whispered softly as Elijah sniffled quietly.

Mary smiled at the werewolves and raised her hands up. "You two have endured all the traditional werewolf rituals and trials. There is only one remaining-- Jackson, you may kiss your bride."

Jackson looked almost scared but Hayley smiled at him encouragingly. He stared at her for a long moment before he cupped her face in his hand and kissed her. When Hayley and Jackson finally pulled away, both of their eyes glowed gold, indicating that the Unification Ceremony worked. They smiled at each other happily and turn to look at the crowd.

The guests all looked at each other curiously. Josh and Davina were smiling and when Aiden looked back to smile at Josh, his eyes glowed gold as well. The werewolves in the crowd smiled at one another as their eyes glowed as well.

Everyone began to smile and chatter, all thrilled that the ceremony has empowered their pack. Marcel and Gia looked at each other, slightly nervous at this new development, but Klaus looked relieved.

A parade was being held in the streets in celebration of Hayley and Jackson's wedding. It was led by several police officers on motorcycles, followed by Hayley, who had a white lace parasol in her hand and was dancing with Jackson at her side.

Behind them was a marching band playing a bright jazz tune, along with the rest of the wedding guests, who were dancing and having a great time in the streets.

Ingrid and Klaus were dancing and laughing together on the side walk. He spun her around and pulled her to his chest as she laughed loudly in a genuine manner.

Clearing his throat, he prepared to say what he had on his mind. "All these festivities, has given me an idea." He began to say vaguely causing her to look up at him curiously and concerned. "We should get remarried."

"You're not serious." Ingrid replied with a raised eyebrow, her tone one of disbelief.

"Of course I am." He clarified with a slightly offended look. "We've been married for one thousand and eighteen years. We made our vows when we were human and I think they could do with an upgrade." He said with a small shrug then smiled affectionately. He grabbed her hand and slipped her wedding ring off. "Ingrid, I'm in love with you. I've been for over a thousand years and I know this'll sound cliché but I love you more now than I loved you then. So, my love, please. Marry me all over again." He said, kissing her ring finger and anticipating her answer.

Ingrid smiled widely and nodded her head. "I would marry you a million times, Niklaus."

Klaus slipped her ring back on then held onto her face in his hands and crashed his lips into hers, passionate and hungry. Ingrid looped her arms around his neck and immediately kissed him back.

She pulled away and pretended to study her ring then held it up with a fake displeased facial expression. "This wasn't exactly what I was hoping for..." She trailed off with an overdramatic sign then rolled her eyes and looked up at him. "But it'll do."

"Shut up." He growled with an amused smirk before kissing her in desire again.

Later on, the reception had made it's way back to the compound and was taking place in the courtyard. Some people were eating and drinking others were dancing, but everyone was mingling together while caterers walked around with hors d'oeuvres and trays of drinks.

While Hayley and Jackson danced together, Hayley looked up to see white flower petals raining down on them and Jackson smiled widely as he spun her around. Up on the balcony, Elijah watched them dance silently, looking slightly jealous.

After a moment, Ingrid and Klaus walked down to the courtyard with Hope in his arms and gestured for the band to stop playing so he could make a speech. "Ladies and gentlemen, may I have your attention please? My wife, Ingrid, and I would like to propose a toast." He called out to them and gestured to her. "We want to welcome you all. As you know, last spring, Ingrid and I had a daughter. Due to tragic circumstance, she was lost. Now, she has returned home. Her name is Hope." He explained, introducing their daughter to the world, as guests gasped and began to murmur amongst themselves about this revelation. "She will live here among you, her pack. Her family. We implore you-- protect our daughter. Teach her. Love her, as one of your own."

In the crowd, Jackson nodded at Klaus in agreement. Klaus grabbed a glass of champagne from a nearby tray and Ingrid did the same. Elijah continued to watch from the balcony and Klaus smiled at him before continuing his toast. "Jackson, I invite you and your bride to live here, uniting your proud and noble people in peace. Welcome to the family, mate."

Ingrid choked on her champagne while Jackson nodded at him again and Klaus held up his glass to the crowd. "To Jackson and Hayley!"

"Cheers!" Everyone yelled back, raising their champagne in the air as Klaus held his glass up to Elijah and smiled at him devilishly.

Ingrid took Hope from him then smacked him in the chest with an aggravated look. "Why would you do that to him?" She questioned in disbelief and shook her head with a scoff. "You know he's having a hard time and now you're practically rubbing it in his face."

"It's not about him." Klaus replied with a small sigh and smirked slightly. "It's so we can keep an eye out on our new allies."

Narrowing her eyes, she pointed a finger at him and spoke in a stern tone. "Go talk to him, please." She then turned to their daughter and smiled widely. "Come on, sweetheart. There is someone I would like you to meet." She said in a soft tone and walked away from her husband. Ingrid approached Marcel, who was speaking with Gina and Josh, and cleared her throat. "May I have a moment with Marcellus, please?"

Marcel nodded to the other two vampires in reassurance after they shot him concerned looks. They spared odd looks at Ingrid before walking away, leaving them alone. Marcel raised an eyebrow at Ingrid and beamed at the infant.

Ingrid laughed genuinely and looked over at him. "Marcellus, I would like to introduce you to Hope. Hope... this is your big brother, Marcellus."

Marcel seemed caught off guard by her word choice but didn't let it change his doting of Hope. "She is beautiful."

"Thank you." Ingrid remarked with a nod of her head then grinned at him. "Do you wish to hold her?"

He blinked rapidly in surprise before laughing and nodding his head rapidly. "Yes. Yes, please."

Ingrid handed Hope to Marcel, who gladly took her into his arms and beamed happily. The hybrid watched with a wide smile then picked her lips and looked up at him with a frown. "I would like to formally apologize for how our family has treated you the last few months."

Marcel nodded slowly then shrugged his shoulders. "I guess I can see the reason now."

Shaking her head with a stern expression, she replied in a strong tone of voice. "That is no excuse." She argued sternly and grabbed onto Hope's tiny hand. "You are family, Marcellus, and you should be treated as such. Niklaus was terrified that someone would attempt to torture this secret from you and well... he was proven right. Finn wasn't going to stop until he found out what we were hiding. However, that is no excuse for allow you to fall into his hands."

"We had to fabricate her death because Esther had ordered the witches to sacrifice her." Ingrid truthfully informed him causing his eyes to widen. "She claimed that Hope was evil and an end to all French Quarter witches. So, we hid her away."

She looked up from her daughter to Marcel with teary eyes. "Niklaus has erased your memory and it is not out of mistrust but simply your safety. However, I need you to know what you've done for this family. Our family." She said emotionally before smiling widely. "When I gave birth, Genevieve, Monique, and Abby ambushed me in my vulnerable state and took Hope from me." The hybrid explained as a tear involuntarily rolled down her cheek. "She was seconds away from being sacrificed but you saved her."

"Marcellus, you are the one who saved my daughter from that fate. You saved Hope's life and I am forever grateful for you." She informed him as he gaped at her in surprise and confusion. "You helped us hide her so she may live... we could have never done any of this without you and I am indebted. Unfortunately, I cannot give you that memory back because I cannot undo Niklaus' compulsion but you deserved to know."

"When you blamed yourself, I wanted nothing more than to tell you the truth but I couldn't." Ingrid remarked softly with a shake of her head, her voice cracking at the end. "She wasn't safe. But now she is. I will never keep anything from you again. I do apologize for leaving you out."

"Ingrid, I understand why you did and I'm not mad at you. You we're doing what any mother would do. You we're protecting your daughter. She's safe now and she always will be." Marcel informed her in a strong tone. "I'll never let anything happen to her. I promise."

"I trust you, Marcellus." Ingrid replied honestly and smiled warmly at him. "Although you may hate this... you are a Mikaelson."

He was about to respond when Hope began to fuss in his arms. Ingrid frowned and held her hands out for her child. Marcel immediately handed her over to Ingrid and watched in concern. Ingrid looked at him, noticing the look on his face. "She's okay. It's a tad bit past her bedtime and now she's fussy." The Original smiled in an assuring manner and placed a hand on his shoulder. "I'm going to put her to bed. I will catch up later."

He nodded in agreement as Ingrid walked through the crowd toward the stairs. She made her way into the nursery and set Hope down in her crib. Klaus joined them and watched his daughter as she fidgeted around.

When he heard Elijah and Rebekah come into the room, he sighed in annoyance and narrowed his eyes. "Must you intrude on every moment?"

"I'm not here to quarrel, brother." Elijah answered in a hollow tone as he walked further into the room.

"It's Kol. I couldn't help him." Rebekah informed them in a tearful voice. The hybrids turned to her with a shocked expression on his face.and Rebekah's face was solemn with watery eyes. "He's not gonna last the night."

Ingrid looked up at Klaus with a frown and mournful expression before casting her glance back to their daughter.

The four of them then left the Mikaelson compound to find Kol as Marcel watched carefully from the courtyard, staring at Rebekah while she walked toward the door.

Kol and Davina were in Lafayette Cemetery. He appreciated Davina's help but he shook his head and squeezed her hand softly when she kissed his hand. "I think I want to be alone for this bit." He whispered sadly and coughed harshly as he walked away from Davina, who was sobbing quietly, and toward one of the tombs. However, he stopped when he hears a voice behind him.

"I'm afraid that's not an option." A smooth, male voice rejected his requested and Kol turned around to see his siblings standing in the aisle before him.

""Always and forever" is not something that you just weasel out of, brother." Klaus remarked with a pointed look.

Kol stared at his family in surprise and managed a weak smile, which Klaus returned slightly.

Davina, Ingrid, Rebekah, Klaus and Elijah moved Kol into the tomb, which was surrounded by candles. Davina was sitting a few feet away, whispering a spell over a necklace that she was gripping tightly in her hands.

Kol was laying on the floor, surrounded by family and his nose and mouth were both bleeding. He groaned in pain and gripped tightly onto the lapels of Klaus' jacket. "All my life, all I ever wanted was for you lot to care about me."

Klaus struggled to hold back his tears, and before Kol could laugh, he was overcome by another coughing fit that startled Rebekah. She sat down on the ground, and she and Elijah rubbed Kol's back as he coughed before leaning him backward.

Ingrid was softly smoothing Kol's hair in a comforting manner as her lips quivered in an attempt to hid her tears. She cradled Kol's head in her lap while whispering a prayer in Old Norse.

"Indy, you don't have to do that." Kol mumbled to her with a small smile then smirked mischeviously. "You're the only one who believed in that stuff anyway. There is no Valhalla or Other Side for me."

Rebekah grabbed onto Kol's hand and squeezed it as he groaned in pain. Tears started rolling down her cheeks uncontrollably and rubbed held onto him. "Kol, listen to me. You don't have long. You're going to die." He could no longer hold back his tears and he gripped her arm tightly. "But you will die a witch, and we will consecrate your body. You will join the ancestors of the French Quarter, and those spirits can be brought back. And, I promise you, brother, I will not leave this body until I find a way to bring you home."

Kol smiled at her, despite his pain, but quickly began to cough even harder. Davina finally finished her spell and crawled toward Kol to give him the necklace, both frantic and in tears. "I tried a different spell."

Kol grabbed her hand and squeezed it as tightly as he could manage. "It's okay. I'm not scared."

Davina tried her best to smile at him through her tears, and Kol managed one last laugh before he died in Ingrid and Rebekah's arms. Davina broke down in sobs while Elijah and Klaus began crying freely as well over.

Ingrid rested her forehead against the top of Kol's head and sobbed loudly causing Klaus to sit next to her and hold tightly onto her.

The Mikaelsons sat in that tomb, mourning the loss of one of their own for the rest of the night.
