➳ 43: live and let die
HAYLEY had allowed the Crescent wolves to stay at the compound despite all the Mikaelsons' protests. Her reason being that they were in danger now because of Esther so they deserved to spare a few rooms.
They were congregated in the courtyard when Elijah entered the room, yelling for Klaus. "Brother! Niklaus!"
At the sound of Elijah's voice, Hayley walked into the room to see what was going on. "You do realize that literally everyone in here has supernatural hearing, right?" She snapped at him.
"Where is my brother?" He demanded sternly with narrowed eyes.
"I'll check his calendar..." She said sarcastically then paused for a moment before shaking her head at him. "Wait, no. Not his wife, so..." She passive-aggressively answered then motioned upstairs. "Ingrid is upstairs if you want to go bug her about it."
"Hayley, this city is under siege by an army of beasts following my deranged mother's every command." He informed her in annoyance. "Now, considering it was your people who just declared war on my kind, now's not the best time for your particular brand of sass."
"Klaus left a while ago. If you want to find him, I can't help you. If only there was a magical device that people used to call people? I don't know, I'm out of ideas. Good luck." She remarked, unamused, then turned and walked away, but stopped and turned back at the last moment. "Oh! One more thing, Elijah-- those "beasts" that you're referring to? They may be under Esther's control, but, like you said, they're my people. So, if you hurt them, your bitch mother will be the least of your problems." She threatened and turned to leave. Elijah stood in his place and stared as she walks away, looking unhappy.
"Trouble in paradise?" Ingrid questioned with a smirk as she walked down the stairs and toward him.
Rolling his dark brown eyes, he straightened out his jacket and cleared his throat. "Enough, Ingrid." He ordered sternly, shooting her a challenging expression. "Where is Niklaus?"
"He had something to do with Camille O'Connell, I believe." She answered in a careless tone and deadpanned. Looking around at the crowd of Crescent wolves, Ingrid made an aggravated face. "When you find him please tell him to call me, yes?" She remarked and walked back toward the stairs while shouting loudly. "And have animal control come round up a pack of wild dogs, please. They're getting fleas everywhere."
The Crescent wolves growled at her and she chuckled to herself and smirked down at them from the balcony. Hayley glared in her direction and pointed a finger. "Ingrid!" She called out to her causing the Mikaelson to raise an eyebrow and hum in acknowledgment. "A word, please?"
Ingrid rolled her eyes then glanced at Elijah, who gave her an encouraging look, and sighed heavily. "Very well." She grumbled in annoyance and motioned for the hybrid to follow her. Ingrid then walked into her office and gestured for Hayley to sit in one of the chairs while walking toward her desk and sitting in her chair. "Take a seat."
"I'd rather stand." Hayley responded in harsh manner and crossed her arms over her chest. "Who the hell do you think you are?" She demanded of the Original in fury and Ingrid leaned against the back of her chair with an amused smirk. "You can't treat people like this. Esther drove us out of our home and Elijah agreed that we could stay here."
Licking her lips with a laugh and leaning forward in her chair, Ingrid glanced at the hybrid with a mixed facial expression. "Believe it or not, Elijah does not have final say. I do. So you and your group of filthy, ill-mannered mutts can go crawling back to the bayou where you belong."
Hayley gaped at her in disbelief and scoffed, stroking toward the front of her desk. "Those are my people you're talking about!"
"And?" Ingrid questioned in a dull tone, failing to see her point. "Hayley, I do not care about you or your people."
"How can you care so little for the wolves?! You're a hybrid!" Hayley yelled incredulously.
"Yes. Very observant." Ingrid replied sarcastically. "I do not associate myself with simple people and you are the definition of simple people." She commented then held a finger up and raised an eyebrow. "No, my apologies, that's Matthew Donovan. Better stated... you are a foul-mouthed, disrespectful, ungrateful little girl who cannot handle what it is actually like in this world."
"I will never like you. Not as long as you continue to string Elijah along and use him when it is convenient for you. You play on this family because you know he will allow it. I won't. No more." She sneered venomously at her. "You are done."
"They're Klaus' family. You have to care at least a little." Hayley argued sternly then watched Ingrid purse her lips and shake her head. "Your daughter--"
Ingrid stood up from her seat abruptly causing the chair legs to screech against the floor and aggressively slammed her hands down on the wooden desk. "MY DAUGHTER--!!" She snarled furiously with a golden-amber eyes glare then eased up and slowly backed off. "--is gone." She finished in a hushed whisper and Hayley's face softened slightly. "So it does not matter what relation she has to your inferior family. If you have nothing else to say, you may leave." She dismissed the other woman in a hollow tone and sat back down in her seat.
Hayley appeared to be debating on her next choice before shaking her head and scowling. "You're a Mikaelson in name only! You--"
"Hayley, I have been a Mikaelson for one thousand, eighteen years." Ingrid informed her with a half-attempted smirk and rested her head lazily in the back of her chair. "I can confidently say that I am a Mikaelson in more than name. I am a Mikaelson through and through." She added with a pointed look then folded her hands. "If you're insinuating that my word holds no value because I am not a Mikaelson by blood then I would rethink your process. My word holds the most value. Have you not picked up on that yet?" She rhetorically questioned with a small laugh. "So, pack up your trash and get the hell out of my house. Meeting adjourned."
Hayley began to try to argue again but Ingrid held a hand up to stop her and narrowed her dark eyes. "This discussion is over. Now, go."
"I'm not sired to you anymore." The Marshall woman sneered before turning on her heels and storming out of the room, shoving Elijah on her way out.
Elijah walked in with an intrigued face and closed the door behind him. He then made his way toward her desk and sat in his usual seat in front of her. He smirked slightly and locked his lips before letting out a small chuckle. "You get the last word now? And somehow your words means the most, hmm?" He questioned while she side eyed him. "I don't disagree. Especially when it comes to Niklaus. Can I assume with your boasting that you finally intend to rejoin in the leadership?"
"I don't just intend to join, Elijah. I will be taking this family back from your leadership. You are relieved of your position." She answered in determination and smiled widely at him. "And I was not boasting. I was merely stating a point."
"While I am glad that you're no longer eating Oreos in your lingerie everyday." Elijah remarked with a small grimace.
"A closed door is not a locked door, Elijah. Perhaps try knocking." Ingrid replied with a mocking smile.
"Well, I will definitely try that because that image will forever be in the back of my mind." He commented in disgust then shook his head and waved his hand. "I don't think New Orleans or this family is entirely ready for your sole leadership just yet."
"Do you think me incapable?" She questioned in offense, sitting back on her chair with crossed arms.
"That is not what I meant and you know it." He replied with an incredulous look then sighed heavily.
"You told me to straighten out my priorities and I am doing just that. I am trying to fix this city and our mistakes so she can come home. If this is not feasible to you then what do you propose?" Ingrid asked while raising an eyebrow at him.
"I propose a co-leadership between you and myself. We come to a consensus." He offered his idea.
"What about Niklaus?" Ingrid questioned curiously, leaning forward in her seat.
"Niklaus... is harder to reason with." Elijah answered while making a face.
"Could it perhaps be because you view him as a temperamental child?" She questioned with a sarcastic smile and was about to add more when her phone buzzed beside her. Raising an eyebrow and holding a finger up to Elijah, she read the message that had been sent.
I need your help. -Cami
Scoffing, Ingrid was about to set her phone down until another message came through.
It's about Klaus -Cami
Ingrid immediately stood to her feet and walked passed Elijah, toward the door while texting the blonde back. "I'm afraid I have to cut this short. We will continue this discussion later, yes?" She asked Elijah and stood up, moving toward the door with urgency.
"Yes." He agreed then turned in his seat to face her. "Where are you going?"
"Niklaus needs me." Ingrid answered vaguely and walked out of the room. She was walking down the stairs when she saw the wolves again. "I meant what I said, Hayley. These wolves need to be gone by the time I get back or I'm going to start making hybrids." She threatened in a serious tone while walking out of the compound.
Hayley gaped at her then looked up at Elijah, who was standing on the balcony. "She can't do that!"
"I'm afraid, Hayley, she can and she will." He informed her sternly then sped to meet her in the courtyard. "Unlike when Niklaus or I make threats, ours maybe somewhat empty, Ingrid upholds hers. So if you don't clear out like she ordered, she will turn your pack into hyrbids. I don't think I'll be inclined to stop her."
Ingrid arrived to the cabin where Cami said Klaus would be and she saw him standing on the porch and looking through the windows. He growled in frustration and walked over to another window, still unable to see anying.
Unbeknownst to the Original, Kol and Davina were chanting an incantation that made them invisible to his eyes. Mikael was standing inside, watching him and gripping the white oak stake in his hand.
When Klaus walked off the porch and smiled when he saw Ingrid standing out in the yard. He walked toward her and greeted her with a small peck on the lips. "Hello, love. I apologize that I can't be more welcoming but Mikael is inside I just know it."
"Oh, he is." Ingrid agreed then held her phone out to show the texts between herself and Cami. "Your little blonde friend told me everything."
Klaus handed her phone back and began thinking of a plan while searching around in the yard. He then noticed a staff with the crest of his family's clan carved on it and grabbed it from the ground. He studied it for a moment with tears in his eyes before storming back toward the cabin and angrily throwing it through the window like a javelin. When Davina and Kol ducked out of the way, Davina's head hit the edge of a trunk and she was knocked unconscious.
"Enough games, Davina! Send out my father! Let's finish this." He shouted loudly from the porch, a stern look on his face.
Kol was checking on Davina when Mikael grabbed him in a choke-hold and pulled him from the ground. "Release me! Or I will kill you right now!" He threatened his own son in a furious manner then tossed him carelessly to the ground.
"DAVINA!" Klaus bellowed, challenging them. "Is this not why you brought him for? I'm not afraid!"
Kol grabbed Davina's wrist and touched the bracelet, whispered the spell needed to release Mikael from her entrapment. "Dinti tu e sedo per un dayen un trahen ble doce mozore. Un frantue e sedo per un dayen un trahen ble do sedo per."
Davina's bracelet started to glow, and Mikael closed his eyes, feeling the power of the curse lifting.
Klaus and Ingrid were waiting outside when they heard the sound of the door creaking open. Mikael walked out onto the porch and smirked at them. "Hello, boy." The Original father sneered in disgust then glanced at Ingrid. "You never seem too far behind, filthy mongrel."
Ingrid shrugged nonchalantly while Klaus tried to remain strong but he couldn't help but look slightly scared.
"You seem rather impatient. Are you so eager to meet your end?" Mikael taunted him, gripping his fingers around the stake.
"I'm only eager to stand over your burning corpse again. Only this time, I intend to enjoy it more." Klaus snarled with glare and slowly walked toward him.
Mikael walked down the stairs of the front porch and approached him as well. "I've traveled all the way back from hell for this moment."
Klaus smiled and tilted his head to the side. "Well, then, I'd hate to keep you waiting!"
He lunged for Mikael and they began fighting while Ingrid stood by for help when need be. Though they both managed most of each others' blows, Mikael clearly had the upper hand. He eventually kicked Klaus down onto the ground and then kicked him again so that he was laying flat on his back. He grabbed Klaus in a choke-hold and was about to stake him when Klaus kicked him backward, allowing him to rise to his feet. He stomped on Mikael's hand before he could grab the stake, which was laying on the ground between them, and the two began to fight again.
Ingrid stared at the white oak stake lying on the ground for a brief moment before speeding toward it while Mikael, once again, knocked Klaus flat on the ground and held him in a choke-hold as he began desperately looking for the stake. He realized that it wasn't there anymore and looked over to see that Ingrid had it in her hand.
Mikael let go of Klaus, tossing him to the ground, and stalked toward Ingrid, who twirled the stake around in her hand. He sped toward her and pushed her to the ground. When she fell, she held the stake straight up and stabbed Mikael in the right shoulder. Mikael growled in pain and was about to rip it out when Klaus grabbed Papa Tunde's blade from his jacket and stabbed Mikael in the chest with it. Mikael screamed out in pain and fell back onto to the ground as the knife began to embed itself in Mikael's chest. Klaus pulled the stake out of his shoulder and helped Ingrid to her feet.
The hyrbids smiled affectionately at each other before Cami appeared out of nowhere and ran toward him as fast as she could panting and trying to catch her breath. "Where is she?" She questioned frantically and pointed a finger at him threateninly. "If something happened to her, Klaus, I swear to God--" the blonde snarled while Ingrid laughed in her expense.
"You'll what?" Ingrid questioned curiously, raising an eyebrow with a smirk. "Threaten to out us again? See, no... you won't do that because that means exposing Marcellus, Joshua, Davina--" she listed off while counting on her fingers then stopped with a smirk. "Need I continue?"
"Davina's fine." Klaus reassured the human with a stern look. "She'll wake with a spectacular headache, but given her intentions for me, she should count herself lucky." He informed her, a threat hidden in his voice.
Cami threw her head back and sighed heavily in relief. Klaus looked at her with a smirk and remarked in a joking tone. "'Course, if you drop dead of a heart attack, I may have to kill her on general principle."
"You're the one that ditched me at the bar! I had to hitch-hike and then run on the backroads of the Bayou!" She snapped at him, still breathless.
"Well, your perseverance is duly noted." Klaus commented with an amused expression.
"Oh, shut up!" Cami snapped again at him in annoyance. "I'm so mad at you, I can hardly speak. But, I am here, and it is to tell you-- not to bargain with you, and not to shame you, but to tell you-- under no circumstances will you hurt that girl, do you understand me?"
Ingrid rolled her eyes and sneered to herself in annoyance.
Klaus opened his mouth to say something snarky but when he noticed how frustrated Cami truly was, he reconsidered his position. "You have my word."
Cami, relieved, smiled over at him then noticed Mikael and gaped in worry. "Is that Mikael? Is he...?"
"Unfortunately, no." Ingrid replied in a disappointed voice and
"He's still alive... in complete and utter agony." Klaus answered honestly and Cami looked at him surprised and slightly horrified.
The blonde spared in glace at them again before nodding her head and walking toward the cabin.
Ingrid turned to Klaus with an incredulous look. "Why do you entertain her?"
"She amuses me." Klaus answered with a smirk then chuckled. "She seems to think herself capable of instilling some humanity in me." He added then noticed her face and smiled warmly. "You have nothing to worry about."
"Oh, I'm not worried, Niklaus." Ingrid replied confidently then smirked darkly. "Because if you do betray me like so, especially with the likes of her.... I'll kill you." She informed him sternly and turned on her heels while he laughed wholeheartedly and followed suit.
Klaus loaded Mikael's body into the trunk of his SUV then closed the trunk door and sighed before walking toward Ingrid, who was leaning against the hood, and grinned. She glanced at him with an overdramatic eye roll then walked toward him, beaming at him affectionately.
Inside the trunk, Mikael regained consciousness and fought the pain from the dagger. He groaned in agony as he reached into his chest and finally pulled the blade out.
