Chapter 6

-What?- he asked, startled. -What do you mean?

The voice on the phone said something that frightened him even more, if it was possible.

-Okay, okay mom. Calm down. I'll take the first train and be home, as soon as possible. Is aunt Ethel with you?

He heard an answer and nodded.

-Good. Stay with her. And mom? Please don't be scared. It's all gonna be all right.

He hung up and quickly started to pack his small suitcase. He opened a small, wooden box, that stood at the bottom of his wardrobe and took out some money for a rainy day. He shut all the curtains, dressed up his boots and coat, took Mr. Darcy, with cat's food and bowls, his little suitcase and the guitar case and went to his neighbour. He knocked twice and waited for an answer. The door quickly opened, to reveal an old lady.

-Yes?

-Evenin' Mrs. Darren. I've got a problem.

-Oh! What is it my dear?

-Something bad happened to my dad. He's in the hospital and I gotta go home, as soon as possible.

-Oh, God! What can I do for you?

-Could you please, take care of Mr. Darcy? I can't leave him alone. I don't know when I'll be back and...- he choked on his words, his misery showing.

-Don't worry my dear. I'm sure it's all gonna be ok. I'll take care of him. Remember, take as much time as you need- she took the cat from his hands and hugged the boy tightly.

He thanked her and quickly ran to the train station. He took the first train to Minnesota. He was lucky. It headed directly to his hometown. When he sat in one of the wagons, he suddenly remembered about Corrina. He completely forgot about the girl, due to the phone call. He quietly cursed himself and made a quick note in his memory, to call her right after getting home.

TWO DAYS LATER

Corrina was nervous. It was alredy Monday and she hadn't heard a word from Bob. She couldn't focuss on her work. She dropped every book she took a hold of and messed nearly every customer's bill. Mr. Bennett started to get a bit worried about her. In the afternoon, during the lunch break, he decided to ask what was wrong.

-Corrina?

-Yes?- she raised her head from the books she was putting on the shelves.

-May I ask you something?- he asked, sitting on an old sofa, that was standing near the counter and patting the place next to him.

-Of course- she sat next to him.

-I won't beat around the bush- he started. -You're very nervous today and I'm quite worried about you. What's going on?

-It's nothing- she blushed.

-Corrina- he said, taking her hands in his. -You can tell me everything. You're like a granddauther to me and who knows, maybe I can help you?

She sighed and looked down. After a while, she focused on his kind, brown eyes.

-Do you remember this scruffy looking boy, that came here a few days ago?- older man searched his memory for his picture. -He bought ''The Sorrows Of Young Werther".

-Oh, yes! Now I remember him.

-So I... We... -she gulped, not really knowing what to say.

-Tell me everything from the beginning, please- he asked, smiling soothingly.

-Ok...- she told him everything about the last days they spent together, except for the more intimate times.

She also said, how he took her to the balcony and how they met the five men.

-He took me back home and I haven't heard a word from him, since then- she whispered, trying not to break down. -I called him a few times and even went to his flat, yesterday, but there was no answer. He wasn't there! I'm so worried about him!- she hid her face in her hands and started to cry.

-Shh...- the elderly man patted her back. -He's all right. Don't worry. I'm sure he had a good reason, not to call you. What'd you say if we went to his flat, today? Maybe he's back?

She looked up at him, her eyes slightly red, and nodded. He smiled.

-Let's close the store earlier, today- he said and stood up.

AN HOUR LATER

They were standing in front of the dingy, grey block of flats. She knew it was Bob's place. Though it was familiar, she felt out of place.

-"Oh, come on!"- she thought. -"Bob invited you here, before. He won't be mad"- and with that, she opened the door and led her boss upstairs, to Bob's flat.

She knocked twice and waited for an answer. Suddenly, the door on her right opened and a short, old lady came out of her flat. She looked at the two of them and frowned.

-Do you need something, young lady?- she asked in an uncertain voice.

-Um... I...

-Do you know where the boy that lives here is?- Mr. Bennett quickly asked.

-And who's asking?

-I'm his gi-friend- Corrina blushed a little. -My name's Corrina Wise.

-He doesn't tell me much about his friends, but I think I've seen you here before...

-Can you please tell us where he is?- the elderly man said. -She's dead worried about him.

-He went to his hometown, to visit his father. Something bad happened to him.

Corrina looked at her with wide eyes.

-What?!- she exclaimed. -Why didn't he tell me?

-He got a phone call late at night and went straight for the train station. He probably wanted to call you, but didn't have enough time to do that.

She saw sadness in the girl's eyes. She came up to her and delicately patted her on the back.

-There, there- she said. -Don't worry. He's gonna call you and explain everything. I know he comes from far away. Just give him some time, to get home.

Corrina noddded, mumbled ''Thank you'' and headed out the block of flats, with Mr. Bennett following her.

-Let me take you back home- the elderly man offered quietly.

-No, thank you. I need some fresh air. Need to think.

Her boss silently nodded and crossed the street, heading back home. Corrina wrapped her scarf tighter round her neck and put her hands in the pockets of her coat. She started to slowly walk in the direction of her house. She didn't notice that the snow was falling much more heavily and that the wind blew harder.

When she got home, it was already late at night. She made herself a cup of tea and sat on the couch, turning on her TV. The night was freezing cold and only a few of radiators at her place, were on. She wrapped herself in a colourful blanket, to keep warm. Mrs. Austen made herself comfortable on her lap. Corrina delicately scratched the animal's ears, deep in thought.

There was an annoying ringing in her ears. She stirred.

-"Why did I buy this cat a collar with a bell?"- she thought and covered her head with the blanket.

But the ringing didn't stop. She sighed, frustrated and sat up. She rubbed her eyes with her fists and yawned. She sleepily looked around. She was still sitting on the couch and it was still pitch dark, outside.

-Must've fallen asleep- she mumbled.

She heard a soft ''meow'', coming from her left and looked down, only to find her kitten, sitting right next to her. Corrina scratched her head.

-What the...- she didn't have time to finish, because the ringing started again. -Why am I so stupid?- she whispered and went to the hall.

She picked up the constantly ringing phone.

-Hello?- she said and cleared her throat.

-Corrina?

-And who's asking?

-It's me. Bob.

-Bob?!- she was fully awake now. -What happened? Where are you?

-I'm sorry, I didn't call you for so long. I'm in Minnesota right now. I had to go back home, 'cause my father had an accident.

-Oh God! Is he all right?- she asked worriedly.

-Yeah, yeah. He's fine. Just a bit roughed up- the boy answered.

-Thank God- Corrina sighed in relief.

-Listen- he started- I gotta stay here for a while longer, take care of my mum and dad. I'm afraid I won't be seeing you for quite a while, but I want you to know, that...- he gulped.

-Yes?- she asked, getting a bit worried.

-That...

-Oh come on, Bob! Tell me already!

-Why so impatient?- he chuckled and it made her nervousness vanish away. -I just wanted to say...- he stopped once again and she knew, he was smiling.

-Now you're teasing me!- she giggled.

-Ok, sorry- he laughed and cleared his throat. -I just wanted to tell you, that you're very dear to me and I meant everything I told you, whe we kissed for the first time. And that I hope, that when I'm back, you'd like to go out with me- he said nervously.

-Like on a date?- she asked, smiling.

-Yeah, something like that- he laughed. -Of course, if you're tired of me and don't want to go anywhere with me, you don't have to. I'll understand- he quickly added.

-I'd love to go on a date with you- she giggled. -But you have to promise me something.

-Anything you want, dear- he exclaimed.

-You have to promise, that you're gonna call me everyday, or at least send me a letter or two.

I promise. I'll call you every morning, right after you wake up, to say ''hello'', every afternoon, to ask how your day went and to make you smile, if it was a bad one, every evenin', to say ''goodnight'' and kiss you to sleep, to scare away your nightmares- this made Corrina's eyes wet. -And you know why I'm gonna do that?

-Why?- she asked, holding back a sob.

-Because you're like the Sun, the stars and the Moon to me. Since I've met you, you became my whole world, or even universe. And...- he started to whisper softly- now I'm sure, I love you.

After that, she stayed quiet. She was incapable of making a sound. She shook her head, not sure if what she'd just heard was real.

-Babe? I gotta go- she heard Bob's sweet voice. -I'll call you tomorrow.

-Bob?

-Yes, sweetie?

-I love you, too- she said and grinned.

Bob chuckled, said ''bye, love'' and hung up. Corrina sat the phone on the hook and went to her bathroom, to freshen up a bit. She took a shower, changed into her pyjamas and went to bed. All the time, she was grinning like mad, remembering the sweet words of the one she loved. She knew, she did love him, even though she wasn't so sure, a few days ago. 'Cause how else can you call a feeling inside her, every time she thought about Him? Even, when he wasn't around, she could smell his perfume, feel his touch, hear his nasal voice. Every time, she was putting a new book on the shelve in the store, she was thinking what he'd say about it, how he'd pronounce the title and the author. They had a chance to talk over the things they admired: music and its composers, books and their authors, films and their directors. Bob was a romantic. He read a lot and listened to all kinds of music. Whether it was folk, country, skiffle, rock 'n' roll, or even classical music, he drew inspiration from it. He wrote his own poems and then tried to sing them. He said once, that it was hard to make up a melody, a one that'd suit them. She only laughed and said he was doing great.

She smiled at the memory and hugged the covers closer to herself. She has fallen into a peaceful sleep, not interrupted by a single sound. The only thing that moved at her home, was Mrs. Austen, that decided to take a walk around the flat and check if everything was all right. Her green eyes were glowing in the dark, when she ran around, sniffing and listening to the sounds of the night.

The cat finally jumped on the bed and made her way to the sleeping girl. She touched her face with her soft paw and meowed quietly. The girl stirred, but didn't wake up. Mrs. Austen laid her fluffy head on the girls chest and started to purr, slowly dozing off. The room was filled with the sound of them breathing peacefully, getting ready for another day.

A/N: I'm so so so sorry! I had a massive writers block and this chapter sucks (and it's short) and I'm really sorry! ;(((

''(...)like the Sun, the stars and the Moon''- Bob said that about George Harrison, when asked about his death.

Ethel is a real name of Bob's aunt. I've found it on the internet.

And I've started a new story (YAY!). It's about George and Bob and the chapters aren't really connected to each other. It's a sort of a drabble story. Please, check it out and tell me what you think!

Oh, and also sorry for harming Mr. Zimmerman. I just needed a "drama" somewhere in the story ;/

~Peace & Love~
