1 ~ Relation

"You're going to get in trouble for that."

Looking down, following the direction of the pointed finger, I studied my netted stockings, shrugging in disregard.
"They're lucky I put any part of this uniform at all. It's ugly." I replied with a roll of my eyes, slinging my backpack over my shoulder and pushing past.

"(Y/N), seriously, you want to get coded on the first day? You're already pushing it with that stupid little streak in your hair, now this? Oh, and God help you if they see that stud in your tongue-"
"Momo. Shut up." I cut him off flatly, already starting to get a headache.

He'd been at me for every little detail ever since I'd arrived, and I was getting mighty sick of it.
"Look, it isn't just you that you need to think about. I'll be guilty by relation. I have a rep to uphold." The ginger kept a steady pace beside me, and I groaned loudly.

"I'm not a Yaku, Momo, and honestly, that's your issue, not mine. Now, if you don't zip it I'll tell all your little buddies about the time you pissed your pants watching Scooby Doo." Our eyes met, and I could see the legitimate panic flash through them before he was back to just being a plain old grump.
"(Y/N), I was FIVE!"

On and on it went, back and forth until we reached the gates of the school grounds. Nekoma High. It didn't look much different from where I had attended back in Sapporo, aside from a few more students wandering about. Boring. Bland and boring, and not much else.

I already want to ditch...

But no, not on Yaku's watch. He was guarding me like a dog, making sure I wouldn't slip away and cause any problems.
"I have to stop by the gym for a quick meeting, then I'll take you to the office. Last chance to whip to the bathroom and take those stockings off." He urged me to, in his mind, 'do the right thing', but I simply sneered in disgust.
"Pervert."

"You're disgusting. You know that, right?" He rolled his eyes, nudging me to the left so I'd turn in that direction.
"I'm not a baby, Momo. You can go chat with your, what is it? Badminton club or whatever, and I'll just-"
"It's volleyball, and I promised my mom I'd keep my eye on you, so you're coming."

Ugh. Screw you, Mimori...

Honestly, it wouldn't have shocked me if Yaku had decided to grab my hand and lead me around like a toddler, but thankfully he was wiser than that as we made our way to the gym. He knew full well I'd beat his ass. It was a huge gym, and from the path leading up to it I could hear loud chatter from within.

"Sorry I'm late. Busy morning." Yaku announced his arrival as soon as he opened the doors, and as I entered behind him I saw several heads whip our way.
"Oh. My. God." Hearing those three words were enough for my body to automatically brace itself, and before I knew it a mohawked boy was all up in my business, holding my hands in his.

Yikes.

"Yaku! You brought us a beautiful lady manager?! I love you, dude!" He was positively giddy, and I actually almost felt bad yanking my hands away from his. Almost.
"Hard no, man. I'm here against my will." I may as well have kicked the guy in the balls, considering how he crumpled to the floor in a complete personality switch.

"One day..." He murmured solemnly, and I chose to step around him, deciding that was definitely something I wasn't going to inquire about, for my own sake.
"So, gonna tell us who your friend is?" One of the other boys, buzz cut and tanned, motioned to me, and now the whole damn room was eyeing me curiously.

"This is just (L/N) (Y/N), my cousi-"
"I'm his aunt." I jumped in right over the top of him, and Yaku's neck might as well have creaked with how slowly he turned to glare at me. As his club friends all burst into boisterous laughter, he jabbed me in the ribs.
"You said you'd go along with the cousins thing!" He hissed, and I just waved him off with a limp wrist.

"Changed my mind after you decided to drag me here. Suffer." That wasn't exactly the truth. I'd lied from the start about pretending we were cousins. The truth was just too funny to keep in the dark.
"Aw, that's so cute! She's even smaller than you, Yaku!" The tallest kid I'd ever seen was clutching his stomach, and I took note of his silvery hair. It was pretty cool.

My nephew started hurling insults left right and centre, and I just watched on, proud of myself for causing at least a little chaos so early on. From the corner of my eye, I caught a spike of black, and I glanced to find one of the team members studying me quietly.

Woah, that's some serious bed head right there.

It really was just a mess, and there was something off about his stare, too. It wasn't exactly negative, but there was a whole lot going on in that noggin of his that I wasn't able to figure out.
"So how does that work? She's no older than any of us."

Hearing a voice coming from so close behind me nearly caused me to leap out of my skin, and I turned to find a sleepy looking blond, rusting roots, with his nose buried in a handheld console. Composing myself with a hand to my chest, I breathed out a sigh of relief.
"Big ol' age gap between me and Momo's mom. Technically I'm a little younger, but he's my nephew, alright." I explained, chuffed when the laughter picked up again.

"Oh, man! Momo! That's gonna stick!" The bed head approached, his cackles worthy of a hyena, and he smirked down at me, tilting his head to favour the side with the most hair. "(L/N), huh? Looks like you scored all the good genes if you two are from the same pool."

Was that supposed to be some kind of flirtation attempt? If so, it was weak, but who was I to not oblige? Making a point of looking him up and down, I mirrored his head tilt, along with that cocky smirk of his.
"Sure did. Wanna take a dip?~"

The boy blanked. In real time I watched his cheeks bloom red, and his eyes grow wider in shock. He hadn't been expecting for me to indulge him, and it made it so much more entertaining.
"Oooooooh, Kuroo, you blushing?!"

"That's sad, man!"

"I think she broke him!"

"Okay, that's a big no! (Y/N), bench. Sit." Yaku shoved his way between us, shooting his arm out towards one of the side benches, and I glowered.
"Not a dog." I replied, crossing my arms across my chest in defiance, but he gave me a strong nudge in the direction.
"Just sit! Fifteen minutes, tops. Can you please just do that? For me?"

Scoffing, I smiled and reached to pinch at his cheek, shaking his face so that it made a slight squelching sound as it rattled against his gums.
"Awww, how can I say no to my cute widdle nephew?"

Leaving him to deal with the taunts and teases, I sauntered over to the bench, plopping down and heaving a long sigh. Screwing with Yaku was always a lot of fun, but it got boring pretty quickly, especially when I was already somewhere I'd rather not be.

It wasn't that I disliked him or anything. Quite the contrary, we'd been the best of friends growing up, always playing together, going on adventures, staying up late in a pilow fort reading comic books by torchlight, but things happened. Time happened, and we had grown up to be two vastly different people.

Yaku Morisuke wasn't exactly straight and narrow, but he was well behaved for the most part. He was a good student, he helped around the house, he had plans for the future. I, however, had poor grades, a touchy attitude, and I had no idea where the hell I was going in life.

Jealousy wasn't a factor, not at all. He did him and I did me, and that was all fine and dandy, but when he expected me to do as he did, that was when he butted heads, and much to my dismay, that was all the freaking time. Hell, the first thing he'd said to me when I had arrived was that I looked like I'd joined a street gang.

Once the group of boys finally settled down and got down to business, whatever that may be when it came to volleyballing, I eyed the open gym doors, not ten feet away, and my leg started to bounce.

What to do, what to do?

I already knew, of course. Who in their right mind wanted to be forced to meet the principal and dragged around for some pathetic school tour, hearing them spout how amazing and perfect it was when it really wasn't any different to all the others?

Another few checks to make sure nobody was watching, at least not Yaku, I carefully stood up, inching closer and closer to the door before, finally, I broke out into a sprint, immediately making my way to the back of the adjacent building.

Sorry, Momo, but I'm a creature of habit...
