Chapter 34: Don't Leave Me
Eita's POV
"Eita?" A finger poke the blanket which was covering my head. "Eita~." Someone sang as they continued to poke me. "Go away." I grumbled. "Come on, Eita. You can't sleep here all day." They said, shaking me.
'Of course. It had to be Tobi who had to come and wake me up.' I thought, annoyed. "Go away, Tobi." I said. "But our Leader says you have a mission. With Itachi,"
I groaned in annoyance when he mentioned Itachi's name. "He's waiting outside the base for you." He informed.
"Ugh... All right, fine. Tell him I'll be there in a few minutes." I said. "Okay!" Tobi left the room and threw the blanket off me. I got out of bed, then left the base. It only took me a few seconds to find Itachi as he was under a tree, staring at the sky.
"Does the sky look interesting to you?" I joked. I know, it was a terrible joke. He glanced at me before turning his head to look at me. "Are you ready to leave?" Itachi asked. "Uh-huh. Lead on, Itachi." I said. He smirked before chuckling.
"What's so funny?" I asked. "You normally call me by my last name." He said.
"So?"
"So, why did you call me by my first name?"
"I just wanted to. Come on, we're wasting time."
Itachi stared at me for a moment before leading the way to our destination. I looked at Itachi when I noticed he put on his straw hat. "Put on your hat." He instructed. "Why?" I asked as I did what he said.
"Because the person we're going to meet is one of Orochimaru's subordinates. Well, once was. They managed to escape while taking a scroll with the Akatsuki's name on it." Itachi informed.
I stopped walking when he mentioned Orochimaru. Itachi noticed and stopped in his tracks to look at me. "Are you okay?" He asked. "Not really. I feel a little sick." I mentioned, placing a hand over my stomach. "Do you want to go back to the base?" He asked.
"No, I think I'll be all right. Why do I have to hide my face again?" I asked as I started walking again. "Because if this subordinate recognizes you, there's a slight chance they'll engage in a battle and try to take you back to Orochimaru." Itachi explained as he walked with me.
"That's a stupid logic. Why would they bring me back to Orochimaru if they're an escape subordinate?"
"To probably regain Orochimaru's trust. For all we know, we could be walking right into a trap."
"Ah, now I get it. But how can we trust this guy?"
"We can't."
"Then, why take the risk?"
"Because the scroll contains important information that Pein wants."
I sighed. "I'm starting to wonder if Pein does anything himself these days." I mumbled.
After a while, we stopped near a bridge. "This is the rendezvous point. Where could they be?" Itachi wondered. I didn't reply as the wind gently blew. After waiting for two minutes, a cloaked man came walking over to us.
"Stay behind me." Itachi whispered. "I don't need protecting." I mumbled, but did what he said and took a step back. "Are you the person we're supposed to meet?" Itachi asked the cloaked man. "Yeah. You're with Akatsuki, right?" He asked. "Yes." Itachi answered.
"Your partner there is a little quiet. Is he alright?"
"Don't worry about him. Do you have what we need or not?"
"I do."
The cloaked man's hand went into his pocket and took out a scroll. "Here." He said. Itachi approached the man and went to take the scroll until there was rustling in the trees. I looked towards the trees as Itachi did the same.
"Shit," I heard the cloaked man mutter. "Now! Attack them now!"
Itachi and I quickly leaped away as kunai knives were thrown at us. We stood back to back as we surrounded by Sound Ninjas. "It was a set-up. What do we do now, Itachi?" I asked. "Fight." He replied.
He performed a Fireball Jutsu while I performed the Raging Waves Jutsu. We fought for as long as we could, then made a run for it. "I think we're in the clear," I said as we hid behind a couple of trees. "Are you okay?"
I turned to Itachi and saw that h was looking a his hand. His palm was covered in blood and I saw blood seeping through his cloak, near his side. "Itachi?" He looked at me before collapsing to the ground.
"Itachi!" I quickly ran over to him and kneeled down by his side. "Shit! He's losing too much blood!" I said. I took off his cloak and tore open his shirt to reveal the wound. There was a deep cut as blood poured from the wound.
"Itachi, hang on! You're going to be okay!" I said. I pressed my hands against the wound, putting pressure on it. "Inari, I need you to lend me your chakra. I must heal him." I said. "Roger." She replied. I felt her lend me her chakra through my hands and I began to heal him.
"I've done what I can to stop the bleeding, but the wound still needs to be closed." Inari informed. "Right." I replied. Before I could do anything, it started to rain. "Damn. Of all the times..." I mumbled.
I quickly grabbed Itachi and pulled inside a nearby cage. Once we were inside, I closed the wound, patched him up, then wrapped the wound in bandages. What caught my attention and made me panic a bit was blood beneath Itachi.
He must've got cut in the back as well. I flipped him onto his stomach and noticed a huge diagonal cut on his back. I gave it the same treatment I gave to Itachi's side, then started a fire to keep us warm.
"You're going to be okay, Itachi. I'm not going to let you die." I said, taking off my cloak; I had abandoned Itachi's cloak out in the rain when I was stopping the bleeding. I placed it over him, then looked out the entrance of the cave.
It was staring to rain harder, so it looks like I'll have to wait it out. I looked back at Itachi as he was still unconscious. "It'll be okay." I whispered. Two hours passed and Itachi was still out cold. I placed my hand over his forehead.
"He's burning up." I mumbled to myself. I tore off a piece of Itachi's shirt and wetted it from the rain. After I wrung it out, I placed it over his forehead.
I took care of Itachi, trying to bring down his fever while making sure he stayed hydrated. I gave him some water from my water bottle, then checked his temperature. "We can't stay out here much longer. I have to get him back to the base." I said.
I picked up Itachi with the cloak over him and carried him back to the base on my back.
"Hey, it's about time you guys got back." Kisame said. "Hey, what happened to Itachi? He doesn't look so good." Sasori mentioned, emotionlessly. "He'll be fine. I just need to get him to bed." I said, quickly walking past them.
When I got to Itachi's room, I set him on his bed and sat down beside him. I pulled up a chair and sat beside his bedside. "Please stay with me, Itachi. Don't leave me. Not like this," I took his hand and rest my forehead on the back of his hand. "Please wake up... Itachi."
Eventually, I fell asleep, but I woke up when I felt a hand gently stroking my hair. "Eita..." I opened my eyes and lifted my head off my arms to look at Itachi. "Itachi!" I fully sat up. "How are you feeling?" I asked. "Sore. What happened?" He asked.
"You passed out and suffered two cuts on your body; One on your back and one near your side," I informed. "Are you okay?"
"I'm fine, but where are we?"
"At the base."
"How did I get here?"
"How do you think? I carried you here."
Itachi attempted to sit up until he grunted while holding his side. "I just said, you sustained injuries! Were you not listening to me? Here, lie back down." I said, grabbing his shoulders. "Hey! What are you doing?"
As I was helping Itachi lie back down, he grabbed my wrist and got on top of me, pinning me to the bed. I flinched and blushed madly when he started to kiss my neck. "Itachi, stop! You need to heal! This isn't the time to be doing this!" I said, trying to push him off me.
But he grabbed my wrists and pinned them by my head before kissing me. I shut my eyes tightly and tried freeing my wrists, but to no avail. Finally, Itachi broke the kiss and gazed down at me. "What was that about? Have you finally lost your mind?" I asked, bluntly.
"Sorry... I'm just glad you're okay." He said, smiling. "I already told you, I'm fine. But it's yourself you need to be worried about. You're seriously injured." I said.
"I'll be fine."
"Like hell you will. We both know that's a load of bullshit,"
Itachi chuckled before getting off me, sitting against the wall, and I did the same. "Anyway, you need to rest. Your body needs to heal." I said. "Did I worry you?" He teased. "No! Of course not!" I denied.
"Really?" Itachi scooted closer to me and leaned his face near my neck. "You look worried now."
I trembled when his breath hit my neck, and just when I thought things couldn't get any worse, they did. Itachi started teasing as he dragged his tongue along my neck. I tilted my head back slightly and blushed lightly as Itachi started unbuttoning my cloak.
"No, Itachi," I grabbed his hand, stopping him. "You need to focus on getting yourself better." I said. "All right, then. But the moment I'm feeling better, you're all mine, Eita." Itachi said, giving my neck a soft kiss.
'What else is new?' I thought with a deadpan expression.
