Chapter 4 To Date Him
"Hey, wake up. Idiot, wake up." A voice called out.
That voice is extremely annoying, I want to punch it away.
So I did.
I aimlessly punched at the air then tossed to the side, pulling the blanket over my head.
"...What the hell did she just do?" The voice asked.
"Punching?" Another voice said, sneezing afterwards.
"Imbecilic actions. I would like to remind you that your date is today. You'll be late if you stay in that bed for another second."
"Who cares about dating?" I grumbled. "I can date myself everyday."
"It's your beloved sempai."
Sempai...?
I quickly sat up, trying to remove stray strands of hair on my face.
"Why didnt you say so!?" I asked.
I stood up from my bed and went to the bathroom. I did all the miracle that is needed to be done and went out, wearing nothing but a towel.
"What do I wear!?" I shouted in pure panic.
"We found the least ugly clothes to wear." Midorima said, shoving up a pink casual blouse.
"It's not perfect but it can work." Ryugazaki said, showing a pair of white slacks. His voice was muffled by a mask he's currently wearing. "We're going on a shopping some time."
I frowned at the selection of their clothes. I buried it deep within my closet because I despise the clothes but there they are, stuffing the fabric in front of my face.
...Not cool.
"I don't want those." I whined, going to my closet to pick some comfortable clothes.
"But your so called sempai will." Midorima interjected. "Now wear that or we'll lock you in your room."
I groaned exaggeratedly before turning to them and grabbing both of the clothes.
"...I hate you two."
"I love me." Ryugazaki answered while Midorima just showed me a face that tells me he doesn't care.
I got changed in the bathroom and applied stuff to keep my eye bags hidden. After that, I was done.
All I needed to do now is go to Moonbucks.
"I will accompany you to Moonbucks." Midorima said as soon as I went out the bathroom. "Ryugazaki will provide backup via call."
I actually prefer Ryugazaki to be watching me over rather than this leek.
"I can't really do much since I caught a cold." Ryugazaki explained, pointing at his facemask when he saw my face of disappointment.
"Alright."
...I don't even care anymore! I'm just excited to go on a date with sempai!
I took out my white rubber shoes but was stopped by two hands coming from two different persons.
"You're not going to wear that rubbish filth." Ryugazaki stated, pulling out a pair of peach stilletos.
"How did you get that!? That's my mother's!" I scolded.
"It's in the shoe rack." He briefly explained, kneeling down and sliding them on my feet.
I didn't want to lose my balance so I stood still... But that doesn't stop me from keeping my mouth running.
"Do you want me to trip!? What the fuck dude? Not cool. This is like modern era torture! Do you have manners!? I think you don't —!" Midorima stuffed a piece of candy in my mouth.
"Talking makes you less attractive than you already are." He mildly answered my glare.
...They don't have any plan on listening to me, do they?
I closed my eyes, released a soft growl, and straightened my posture. I'm going to do this for sempai.
Midorima and I went to the meeting place in silence. He was checking his wristwatch every now and then keep his eyes on the road. He was also carrying a green paperbag which I'm curious to what it contains.
But my feet keeps sending signals already. It felt uncomfortable. I need to keep my mouth open to help myself ignore the throbbing pain.
"Hey, Midorima."
...He's acting as if he doesn't know me.
"Hey, Midorima."
"...."
"Green Lantern."
"......"
"Leek."
His face remained passive.
I would've spank the shit out of him if I just haven't realized that he's doing that on purpose.
"SORE LOSER THAT WAS DEFEATED BY SEIRIN!" I shouted in pure mockery.
I laughed outloud at my sick humour.
I've watched his anime and I have to admit, it's not that bad. I even enjoyed it. I ship him with the black haired dude.
I was still laughing, when I felt my step being suspended. My eyes widened when I realized that I was tripping to the ground.
I closed my eyes and braced for the impact, only to felt a harsh pull that prevented me from my fall.
...I opened one eye to see Midorima's slender hands grasping me by my collar.
"Watch out, you idiot. You're wearing clothes that can be easily stained." He scolded, supporting me to my feet.
....How did he catch me on time though? Unless..
I looked at him with a suspicious glare.
"What the hell is that look? You're like a peeing dog that is caught."
"You did that." I accused. "You tripped me!"
A small smile made its way to his lips. It would suit him if it wasn't for the fact that it's him smiling.
"Your point being...?" He challenged.
....."Butthole!"
I walked ahead of him, nose flaring. I swear I heard the demon chuckling.
------------------
We soon reached Moonbucks. I sat on a table for two at the far end of the café while Midorima sat on the nearest seat he can find.
I ordered lemon tea to help me calm my nerves. They're literally screeching and squealing in joy.
I giggled like an idiot, rubbing my hands together. A date with sempai. Hehehehe.
Thirty minutes passed...
It's still early so I think I shouldn't be too impatient... But maybe I should text him.
I took out my phone and unlocked it. I was about to open my messaging app when I realized— I don't have his phone number. Crap.
I think I was too rash. What if sempai didn't really mean his words? What if he was just bluffing when he accepted my invitation?
...No! I should stay positive! He means it! I just need to wait patiently.
I glanced at my side where Midorima is sitting. He was taking sips of his black tea, looking serious as ever.
His emerald green eyes are focused downwards, his eyeglasses slightly crooked to the left.
Just looking at him makes me ten times bored than I already am. I glanced back at my phone and started to message him.
'Hey Mids!'
Midorima's phone buzzed and he quickly took it out, thinking it was Ryugazaki perhaps. He frowned once he saw the screen and glared at me.
I waved at him, grinning widely. He looked away, obviously pissed, and put his phone away.
He ignored my message and I clearly expected that. I just want to see his pissed off face even just for a minute.
I giggled to myself and decided to play some of the games in my phone. I just need to be patient.
Two hours hour passed by...
"Oh my gosh! Look at that guy! He seems to be cosplaying as Shintaro of Kuroko no Basuke!" A girl squealed to another one, giving sneaky glances at Midorima.
Midorima visibly flinched, casting a glare towards the gossiping individuals. It only made the girls squeal more. I chuckled as a response, very much entertained. But deep inside, I was starting to feel anxious. Why is sempai still not here?
Another hour passed...
My gut feeling tells me that he's not coming anymore...
My phone buzzed and I quickly looked at it, hoping that it was sempai.
It's Midorima.
Carrot Leek: Just wait.
My eyes widened as a response. I glanced at him who was just staring at me. He was comforting me... It makes me happy.
I replied with an emoji of a carrot with shades that made him roll his eyes.
Another one... And another one.. And another one... I just kept waiting until night came.
I just finished eating my sixth slice of cake. Fuck carbs. Fuck it in the ass.
I plopped my head on the table and released a sigh.
I tried being positive the entire ten hours that I have been waiting. All efforts are futile. Sempai is not coming. I just made a fool out of myself.
My heart ached for some reason. It made me hard to breathe. The lack of air resulted my eyes to water. I don't like this feeling. Maybe I should leave before I start making a ruckus in the cafe.
I stood up and made my way outside. Rain started to pour two hours ago and there's no sign of it stopping now. The weather seems to be lamenting with me.
I was too foolish to think that sempai would go on a date with me. I believed him. I believed that he was interested in me, even at the slightest bit. But it seems like that's not the case. In the end, it is my fault for believing such words of pity.
My feet ache and so does my heart. It's starting to get cold due to my drenched state. I stared ahead and saw a waiting shed amidst my blurring vision. I don't know why my vision is obstructed. It may be because I'm crying or because it's raining.
I sat on the bench provided by the waiting shed, feeling lost. I just stayed there, unaware of the time continuously ticking.
"Are you trying to get a fever?" A voice scolded.
I looked up to see Midorima, also drenched in rain as he panted for air.
"Why did you leave the cafe without my consent!?" He continued.
I lowered my head, not feeling ashamed but feeling more down that I already am. I can literally feel his eyes shooting green laser beams at me.
After some time, he released a loud sigh of exhaustion and exasperation.
"Are you hurt?" He suddenly asked, kneeling in front of me.
I nodded, trying to be honest with my feelings.
"I figured." He answered, removing one of the stilettos attached on my feet. "...You have a blister."
Did he misunderstand what I mean by being hurt? Well, it's partially true... My feet does hurt... But I can also say that my heart hurts more.
He gently twisted my ankle, trying to relieve the pain. "I apologize for making you wear such inadequate footwear."
He turned to his paperbag and put out a rubber shoes in which he carefully slid on in my right foot. His gentle hands tied the laces properly as I chose to kept quiet. He did the other procedure to my other foot and finally settled the stilettos inside the paperbag.
He stood up and sat next to me, not saying a word.
We just sat there for a long time. No one dared to break the silence.
"...I also apologize for not being able to predict his tendency to not arrive." He started. "I must confess, I did not anticipate it."
I looked at him and noticed a slight tint of pink on his cheeks. He was embarassed with the fact that he's apologizing. I clearly see that he's being sincere.
"It's alright." I smiled.
Who am I to not accept his apology? Besides, it's not even his fault in the first place.
"It was a waste of opportunity in his part... You look less horrible today." He said.
... I would like to take that as a compliment and stop myself from killing him. I was too flattered too retort against him anyway.
" I would like to pledge that I will find a way for him to return your affection with equal intensity." He said, not sparing me a glance but I can still sense his earnestness. He gave my back soothing pats in a single patterned rhythm that was lulling me to sleep.
I held his hand that was close to mine, and let our hands rest on my lap. I laid my head on his shoulder and felt his whole body stiffen.
"...I have wished to do this with sempai." I softly said, tracing the outline of his fine fingers with my other hand. "I expected it to be warm."
I closed my eyes and let my mouth talk.
"...But it's warmer, Midorima." I held his hand tighter, intertwining our fingers. "...Is it because it's you, Midorima?"
"... You're not bad." I softly whispered. "...Ah, my heart is throbbing. "
My heart is beating faster than usual... Despite such overflowing comes my urge to sleep.
"...Thank you, Shintaro." And with that, I lost all will to stay awake
