Chapter 11 To Know The Truth

"So who will say it?" I heard Rei whisper, inching closer towards Shintaro who was across the table.

"You should be the one to say it." Shintaro answered, also whispering.

What's the secret about? Are they doing some secret agent shit now that they're money is running low? Is there more Easter eggs that I have to fry into omelets!?

I mean, I need a rest. Rei just told me that he's dead in his world and yesterday, Shintaro told me that he was disabled in his world.

That's as far as I can remember though. Those moments after Shintaro's confession was just meep, blegh, and occasional blurry images of Shintaro. However, I think we did some closure. After I had my nap and woke up at around midnight, he was sleeping with his head on my bed and his hand holding mine tightly. I think we made up during my time I was high in fever?

I don't even know man.

"No, you say it!" I was snapped back to reality by Rei's increased volume in his voice.

What was I doing again? Oh right. I was getting my lunch box before I head to school.

With light strides, I made my way to the two individuals.

"Heyo! What you two talking about?" I finally asked.

"About our situation and who would tell you what-- Why are you in your uniform?" Rei asked, adjusting his eyeglasses.

"I'm going to school. Duh. Where's my lunch?" I asked with full toothy grin. Yup. I'm bragging about my perfectly shaped teeth.

"It's a Sunday, you idiot. And here I am thinking that you already had the common sense to wake up at the right time." Shintaro intervened, looking at my direction.

Wait. It's a Sunday? I don't even care about the insult Shintaro just threw. As the internet says, he's a tsundere.

"Well damn." is what I managed to say while scratching my head in confusion. "Welp, time to go back to bed--"

"Not too fast." they both said in unison. Which was kinda cool and creepy at the same time.

"Why?"

"We have to tell you something."

"Oooh. Are you gonna tell me that there's going to be a season 4 of Kuroko no Basuke and season 3 for Free?" I curiously asked, sitting on the chair beside Rei and leaning closer to his face.

Lesson number 2789 in my book, the more closer your face, the more intense is the impact of your question.

"Don't put your lips any nearer than intended!" Shintaro suddenly shouted, making me jump away from Rei in an instant.

My heart couldn't take that one. I almost died.

"Shintaro! Don't just shout! I almost died in surprise!" I shouted back in equal intensity as I faced the carrot that had red tint on his cheeks-- what?

"Then don't surprise me either!" he shouted back.

"What's happening, you two!?" Rei shouted.

"I don't know! Ask Shintaro!"

"Ask  this stupid girl!"

"Why are we even shouting!?"

"I don't know!"

I finally stood up from my seat and slammed my hands against the table. "Okay. No more shouting. Let's just talk all of this out like normal civilized people."

"You're the most uncivilized--"

"Shh." I hushed the leek.

"Tsch."

"So. What will you guys tell me?" I calmly asked, sitting back on my chair.

"Our entire mission, your involvement, and what is to come." Rei answered.

"It's technically not forbidden for us to tell you all of these things." Shintaro continued. "But it's your reaction we-- I fear to hear."

"We've all been turning a blind eye towards the fact that what we have right now is short lived. After our mission, the connection between the three of us will cease to exist."

My heart dropped at the truthfulness of his words.

"We were given six months. That said, we only have less than a month left here in your world."

"Six months. One month." I repeated, trying to take everything in.

"Let's lay out each and every fact that we need to know." the blue-haired butterfly decided. "We have six months to aid you in your goal and that goal is?" he urged me to answer.

"To make sempai notice me."

"That's right. If we are to accomplish this task, I can return back to life and--"

"I can have my life back." Shintaro interfered, showing his bitter smile.

That was a touchy subject for both of them. Both their faces showed so much hurt that even my chest feels heavy upon the sight. Even the air of the room started to suffocate me.

I softly kicked each of their foot under the table, giving off a goofy smile. "Don't gimme that look now."

Their faces soon cleared and a sweet smile replaced their sour demeanor.

"Idiot." Shintaro muttered while Rei simply ruffled my hair.

"And to continue, you will get to have your ideal high school romance." Rei said, hand returning on top of the table.

"Wow. My problem is so stupid compared to yours." I said, laughing a bit. My face then turned serious. This serious talk is not really my thing but I gotta understand their situation."Tell me, who is this mage that gave you this task?"

"She told us to call her Two." Rei said. "...Actually, when we first met, she told me that what I needed to do in order to return to the living is to 'entertain' her. After that, Shintaro also came to her 'realm' and that's when she explained what we have to do."

"This is her sick way of entertainment." Shintaro mumbled.

"So, are you guys telling me that we're under surveillance 24/7?"

"Most probably."

Yikes. My privacy.

"You only told me what will happen if you guys succeed. What if you guys fail?" Maybe there will be a chance for the both of us to stay together.

"I'm dead." Rei was to answer first. "...Literally."

"I'm back to being a waste of space."

... Wait. Let my slow brain process that.

P r o c e s s i n g.

My heart instantly sunk at the realization, making my head automatically look down. Either they win or lose, they'll disappear in my life.

"For this mission to be considered a success, your senior must confess to you."

"Wait." I held a hand up to stop the green haired guy from speaking. "So you're telling me that you'll leave me after this?" I clarified.

"..."

"Please answer me. You both know that I'm too stupid for this."

"Yes."

That single word just turned my world upside down. Tears are clouding my vision. I can't muster any words to come out of my mouth since I have a feeling that I'll choke on my tears and sob like a wild buffoon.

"..."

"Why have you gone silent?"

I can't be with them. I won't be able to eat Rei's cooking. I won't be able to hear Shintaro's constant nagging about my grades.  No more Rei hair grooming. No more Shintaro horoscope lecture. No more Rei head pats. No more Shintaro comfort hands. No more two OCD individuals in my house.

This house will turn back into a hallow structure just like it was months ago. I don't want that. Because in the first place, the reason why I wanted sempai as a boyfriend is for someone to actually care for me. For someone to fill this stupid empty heart of mine. For someone to fix this error called me.

This is stupid. I'm stupid.

I shouldn't have made a connection with them. I shouldn't have let my attention stray away from sempai.

Because now, I want to stay with them more than I want to be with sempai.

Fat tears continuously fell down my eyes, streaming down my cheeks, and falling on my lap as I remained my head down. My shoulders shook as I tried to held on to my painful sobs.

Maybe I should run away just like some sappy main character. But I can't. My legs just feel wobbly that I feel like I'll trip if I tried to stand.

"...Hey."

"Are you crying?"

"Ha..."

"...Ha?" they both asked.

"Ha...haha... hahahaha." my small laugh then turned into fits of giggles as I finally held my head up, my right arm covering both my eyes that were probably swollen by now. "This is kinda funny."

"Will you guys go back to your world once sempai confesses to me?"

"...Yes. That's the idea." Shintaro's voice was concerned but I think that he doesn't really want to ask me why I'm crying while laughing cuz that shit is just weird.

"Well, he confessed to me back in the amusement park? It wasn't actually serious so I think that doesn't count?" I said, trying to tame the tears that were streaming down like an overflowing dam.

"...Umm, no." came Rei's concerned voice too. "He asked you to be his girlfriend back in the amusement park. What he needed to tell in his confession is that he likes you."

"He probably worded it wrong but I think he means what he said. He likes you already. We've succeeded. What we only need is for you to confess. It's the final stage." Shintaro said. I can imagine a small smile on his stern face.

"Ohh. Okay." sob. "I'll just," sob. sob. "Since we will," sob. "All benefit from this," sob. "Let's do this!"

I took a deep breath and finally removed my arm from my swollen eyes. "But it's too soon to leave this world. I mean, come on! You guys should watch the movies here! There's nothing like them in your world. Let's... Let's..." Crap. My vision is starting to get blurry again.  "Let's stay a little bit longer together." Please.

"I'll just confess to sempai a day before your deadline. " I said, standing up while fanning my eyes.

I need to leave and take a breather before I can face them again. I need to dry my tears and clear my mind.

They're looking at me as if my pet dog died. Which sucks. Because one, I don't have a dog. And two, I don't want them worrying more than they needed to.

"I need to go. The table stinks and smells like onion that's why I suddenly felt crying!" I released a pathetic laugh. "So I'll just go, ya know?"

They stared at me a little bit longer before they mustered their own uneasy smile.

"...Alright." they both said.

I turned my back and started to walk away when I realized.

How did they know that Takehiko asked me to be his girlfriend back in the amusement park? I never told them that.
