"Can you please walk me home, Hana? There's these guys that keep on harassing me every time I try to cross the road," one of my classmates ask as class finishes.
I nod. "Come on, let's go."
We start walking and I can tell she's nervous. "Hey, it's okay. You don't have to worry about them harassing you anymore okay?"
I look up and see the guys in the corner of the street. It's the same guys I beat up a while ago. I walk across the street and I see their eyes drift to the girl next to me. All their smiles disappear when they see me. They all run away and I smirk. We continue walking a little more before we get to the apartment complex next to the grocery store.
"Thank you so much Hana, you are the best," she says giving me a tight hug.
I feel the pain in my gut from yesterday, but I ignore it hugging her back. "See you on Monday."
She nods and runs into her apartment. I sigh and turn around. I look down at my scraped legs. I'm definitely not a girl that would catch someone's eye, except maybe CPS. Not that they give a shit about anything. I start walking back towards school. I'm supposed to tutor Akkun today. I owe him for lunch. I cross the street and I hear the sound of engines. I look to my right and see tons of bikes coming towards me. I notice I'm in the middle of the crosswalk, so I move to the side walk. I watch as the bikes pass me. None of them look back at me. It's the Toman gang. One guy at the front glances at me. He has long black hair. I scoff and turn around. They ruined my life. All of them. I start walking towards the school and I see Hina run towards me smiling.
"You ready for some study session Hana," She says.
Takemichi, Akkun, and everyone else runs towards me with smiles on their faces. "Time for tutoring from Hina and Hana!"
(After tutoring)
"Thanks for all your help," Akkun says.
He's biking me home today. "Yeah I owe you, so you're welcome."
He chuckles causing me to let out a slight laugh, but I feel the pain in my abdomen, causing me to stop. He glances at me for a second before turning around to face the road.
"Did they hurt you again?" He asks.
"I'm alright," I say looking at the road.
He sighs. "You know you can always ask for help right? We're all friends for a reason. When one of us are in trouble, everyone's in trouble."
"It's not your fight, Akkun," I say.
He scoffs. "The hell it isn't. Why do you have to get hurt all the time? Just because you lost to someone 5 times the size of you? They aren't gang members, they're just disgraces."
We are silent for the rest of the ride before he drops me off home. "Thanks for the ride."
He nods giving me a slight smile before biking away. I look at the driveway and see my parent's car here. Looks like they are here to grab more alcohol. Or maybe they are hiding from the cops again. I open the door and the TV is blasted again. The place is a mess. They are bottles everywhere. I walk to Tanaka's room and open the door. I see him hiding in the corner, with earbuds in. He notices me come in and he runs up to me, hugging me.
"They are back again, it was bad," he cries against my chest.
I pat his head and squat down, smiling at him. "How about you put in those ear buds again. I wanna show you a song I love."
I play a song and tell him to sit there. I close the door behind me. My dad is sitting on the couch, with the beer in his hand, staring at the TV. My mom is passed out on the counter. I plug out the TV. My dad looks at me.
"Fucks that for?" his words jumble up.
"You guys need to leave," I say.
He gets up and throws the beer at me, causing it to get me wet. "Are you telling me to leave my own house?"
I hold my ground. "You guys come and go, trashing the place. I have to clean after your shit. You guys should just stay at those bars. You aren't welcome here."
My dad slaps my face, leaving that familiar sting.
"Don't talk to me like that you brat," he say pushing me.
He slaps me again. "Apologize."
I shake my head and he punches me in the face, causing me to fall down to my knees. "I said apologize!"
I feel the cut on my lip open again. I stare up at him and give him a sinister smirk. "Go to hell."
He beats the shit out of me. I can't raise a finger. He's still my father figure. I put the anger in a pocket for later. I finally hear the door open and close, signalling that they left. I lock the door quickly. He roughed me up, but not that bad. I'm used to it by now. I start cleaning up the apartment. I put all the bottles and trash in a bag. After cleaning everything, I go inside Tanaka's room. I see him passed out on his bed, causing me to smile. He deserves so much better than living with shitty parents. I grab the trash bags and go outside to throw it away. I hear a noise behind me as I toss the trash in. I turn my head around and see that kid with the black hair from earlier. He's leaning against a wall, looking at me. I try to ignore him and walk away, but he calls out to me.
"Hey, you," he says.
I don't turn around, but I don't walk away either. My legs can't move.
"What's your name," he says, his voice nearing me.
Am I really going to get beat up again? I thought my parents were enough for a day. I should've waited till the morning to take the trash out. He walks in front of me and faces me.
"I asked you what your name is," he says staring down at me.
"Look, if you're just going to beat me up, just do it. I'm sick of you jack asses attacking me from everywhere," I spit in his face.
He doesn't move. Usually by now, I'd be on the ground.
"I just want to know why a girl is filled with bruises and cuts. I saw you earlier, I also heard you from out here when your parents where inside," he says.
"Did you follow me?" I ask.
He nods, without embarrassment. "Now, what's your name."
"Hana," I say.
He nods. "And why are you so roughed up?"
I scoff. "Because of you thugs. Every day, I can't go home without that monster Kiyomasa and his group beating me up."
"Kiyomasa you say?" He cocks his eyebrow.
I look up at him. "He's a coward. He can't confront me without his gang because he knows I will beat him."
"You can fight?" his eyes widening slightly.
I sigh. "Can you just leave me alone? I need to get up early tomorrow."
"Why?" He asks, still following me.
I turn around and put my hand on his chest stopping him. "Just leave me alone."
He finally stops and I disappear into my apartment. I lock the door behind me and watch out the window. He stays out there for a couple minutes before finally leaving on his bike. I drop the curtain and sigh. He's such a weirdo. I turn on the shower and step in, the hot water slightly burning my skin.
