The Muse's Touch [The Wayward Shadows #1] (Feedback)

Comments: I absolutely loved this book. It's fun and sexy. It's got the nerdy girl bad boy vibe about it, but with a whole new twist.
I enjoyed every chapter, it was a smooth easy read that I didn't feel like I was forcing myself to push through. I could easily see this on a book store shelf, and if it ever see it sitting there, I will be snatching it up quick for my personal collection.
I enjoyed reading it from both Davin and Paige's views from a third person perspective. The transitions between the two are very smooth.
I did notice a few typos, but very very few. It was hard to pay attention to minor things, honestly, because I kept getting lost in the stories.
The description were great, and dare I say hot, hot, hot. Lol.
The characters were very relatable, and I kinda want a muse like Shade for myself, to be honest. Where do I sign up?
No only is this a book that I will continue to follow, along with the series, but one I'll be recommending to others to read to. I know several of my friends that will enjoy it thoroughly.
I definitely see this author going far, and wish them the best of luck on their journey.

Comments: The plot between Paige and Shade is so awe inspiring that I nearly fainted when they started to get intimate in the first chapter. I mean a sex scene in the first chapter can only mean that this story will be very hard to put down. It just snatched me up the moment I read it. I really can't wait to read the whole thing.
When I first read the first chapter I thought it was gonna be very cliche romance story but I was dead wrong. The female character Paige is so relatable to me. She loves to write erotic stories and has a nerdy persona in private since her fans think that she's a sexy bombshell of a writer. The incubus guy Shade seems like an okay guy and he actually runs a bookstore too.

Comments: Wow! What an amazing world for the reader to dive into! I thought the introduction was brilliant, immediately setting the paranormal tone as well as showing how strong the female protagonist is. You describe a scene so well! I didn't have to imagine anything.
The main character is very relatable. I loved when she changed out of her dressy clothes into a college tee shirt after her interview. (Something I would do!)
I love the dream sequence as the story begins and the love scene was hot! I've never read another story with this theme so bravo on such a unique plot! I cannot wait to read more about these two!

Comments: A Muse's Touch captured me from the very beginning. A romance story with a supernatural touch to it is a book right up my alley. Since reading this book, I thought it was well written. I could see the scenes clearly. Your characters are solid so far. At first I didn't think Davin was a demon, but when I found out he was everything clicked together. I only read six chapters but there was so much that happened in these six chapters that kept me entertained. Even Paige's reaction in chapter six was very realistic. I didn't read until the end, so I can not give you a completely through answer about Davin and Paige relationship, but from reading so far I gotta say it seem like it's heading in the right direction. I didn't recognize the word Davis called Lillian, so maybe add a little note on what that mean. Her living with someone who put wards up makes me think Paige is something more than what she appears but she doesn't know it yet. Anyway I look forward to reading this story all the way to the end. As it stands right now, this is a book I would recommend to others.

Comments: 1. I think the book is about a paranormal creature and a human erotic book author falling in love, as well as the dangers their connections withholds.
2. The blurb promised an exiting read, it created anticipation and interest, without being too long or confusing. It made me want to read the book, and even though I have never really familiarized myself with what an incubus is excactly, I found myself intrigued with the plot. I may have struggled to find my way into the story, but I didn't have to "make myself" read it. I definitely wanted to, and I still thoroughly enjoy it. I'm currently reading chapter 7.
3. The beginning is a little on the slow side, but the book picks up speed after their first encounter in the club. Since then, I have barely been able to put the book down, because the story got so gripping. I had to go to bed at some point, but now it's 5:48, baby is still asleep, and my first deed of the day, is reading this lovable book.
4. Paige is such a diverse, believable and interesting character. I totally find myself in her, when she goes to that Youtube interview with her looks made appealing for the reader target group, when the real Paige does not care much about appearances. Davin and Ainsley are just as vibrant and alive. I love the character differences between the two women, and their convincing believable friendship.
5. The pace of the book is just right, no random skipping or gaps. Everything makes sense and flows.
6. The scenes, settings and emotions were well described and harmonized.
7. I love how detailed and observant you describe everything that is important for the feeling that this story has to it, without adding too much information or being too detailed. There really isn't anything I dislike about your style of writing.
8. I would certainly read more of your work, because you're a talented storyteller/author (who obviously worked hard to get where she is now), and your story is just so gripping, exciting. Plus: The sex scenes are really well written - and super hot. So I'm definitely going to make sure that I finish this book, after which I will check out the other two.
9. I agree with you on your strong writing traits, it completely covers my own impression. As for creating a healthy relationship, that question is a little difficult for me to grasp, but I'll go with yes. You created a healthy relationship. And here is why I think that. The paranormal part is what it is, Devin is an Incubus, and he did what he does, coming into her dreams. When they meet, however, he is respectful towards her. She wants space, he gives her space. With Paige you also created a strong female character, who acts with common sense. I get into a stranger's car and apartment, so I let him know that I texted his description and address to my friend. She also doesn't just swallow the fact, that he went into other women's dreams as well, or that he lied. Like I said, I'm currently reading chapter 7, and am excited how their relationship develops.

Comments: I've only read six chapters so far of The Muse's Touch, but I'm loving it. It delivers exactly what was promised and it's such an interesting and compelling story premise. Davin/Shade seems like such a unique character for an incubus and he's a rare creature to see as a more heroic character. Incubi don't generally care about those they feed off, but I love how you've created him to have an almost Pratchett-esque nature an interest with his bookshop. And Paige is so easily relatable; he girl who is much happier being at home alone writing than dressing up and smiling her way through an interview or going to a club to dance with drunk horny types. Her realism was perfect. I can't really find much to critique that you don't already mention. Obviously there's the grammatical errors, but they're not as noticeable and should be pretty easy to fix with a couple of editing read throughs. Your lore really didn't overwhelm at all. If anything I was more curious about learning more about the lore and going further in depth, and as someone who lives in the metaphysical world seeing the use of an athame was really something exciting to experience as a reader. And definitely you've achieved the strong female character's with realism. I can say confidently that if that demon dog appeared at my door I'd do exactly what Paige would do. Overall, there really isn't much I can say to improve on. The storyline and characters are all very solidly founded in their own reality and their connections make perfect sense. You keep the story really interesting and have a nice pace, though at times it was a bit quick. All in all, a great story that I'd love to purchase in print. Loved it and I'm looking forward to reading on when I have more time.

Comments: 1. What did you think the book was about?About one character drawing inspiration from another, and it turns into a romance.
2. Did you feel the book fulfilled your expectations?Above and beyond, I didn't expect a supernatural element and one that funnily makes logical sense, an incubus visits a female, and in turns, she becomes a big author, it makes sense and works well.
3. What about the plot? Does it pull you in? Or did you feel you had to force yourself to read the book?I didn't expect it to take the route it did, with a third POV limited that so far switches between characters are cool and exciting, from the first chapter we are thrown in and navigate through the story along with the characters.
4. Do the characters seem real and believable Were you able to relate to them as a person and their predicaments? To what extent do they remind you of yourself or someone you know, if they don't all?Paige is my favourite character. Her internal conflicts are beautifully done and realistic, despite this being a supernatural story. You understand why she's doing what she's doing, and personally, for me, I would do the same if I was her (which I wish I were)
5. How was the pacing of the chapters? Consider if the scenes skipped or jumped randomly. Was it too slow or too fast? Why?The pacing is fantastic, and it's cushioned in delving into each POV's mind, and while you connect with them in the story you do so with them independently it's like we are learning two things at the same time.
6. How was the description of chapters? Consider the scenes, their settings, emotions, actions. Consider if there were any information bumps. If they were lacking emotions, too little or too much describing, telling rather than showing, etc.You do well with your description a delicate balance between needed and info-dumping, you add movements throughout the dialogue and even their narration, so it doesn't feel like they are just statues.
7. Describe what you like and dislike about your writer's style. Why?Nothing to dislike, the way you deliver your story I see a small parallel to the way I write and that's probably why I've enjoyed reading it so much (does that make me vain?)
8. Would you read more of the author's work? Why or why not?Of course, I've got to finish this book first, I'm so happy it's completed.
9.Comment on their strongest & weakest writing trait alongside their help request and your overall thoughts.Your strongest trait as I heavyweight, you can tell you knew where the book was going and strove towards what seems like a clear cut ending a lot of hidden gems throughout cleverly placed and with conscious to them.

Comments: The book opens with our main character Paige in the middle of an interview. Apparently she's an erotic romance novelist which is something I aspire to be, so it was a really awesome opening for me.
It's funny how she comes off in the interview and how she explains that she wants her audience to view her in a particular way when she's really a homebody who prefers to be in a t-shirt and jeans. I absolutely love that & think it's so relatable!
Wow, wow, wow, her descriptions are breathtaking. The ways he describes her love interest, 'shade' is amazing, it's almost like reading poetry.
This was nothing like I expected, although being assigned a read and not looking over the description before starting, I hadn't expected much! But what an amazing read & unique concept!
She meets Shade in her dreams, literally in her dreams! Shade is an incubus that puts himself into a trance to meet Paige in her dreams and.. well.. they do it, a freaking lot... and it's my new favorite. LOL!
I see no way I can help her improve her writing, it's absolutely immaculate! The entire concept is so new to me and absolutely an addicting read. I can't put it down!!

Comments: First impression: If I had a day free from responsibility and obligations, I would have been spent my day sitting on the couch and reading the entire book from beginning to end. The pacing was perfect, giving me just enough information to process and leaving me thinking, "What happens next?"
Use of language: The author admitted technical and mechanical aspects were the weakest traits. I agree, but the errors weren't distracting to the story. A thorough edit by an editor or a few good friends should clean up the majority of the errors.
While I am familiar with the supernatural world, I'm not an expert and the author easily weaved explanations and descriptions without it being a huge distraction to the scene.
Characterization: Paige is a well written and well described character who loves spending time in her dreams (I can't blame her either). Through the course of the book, her character develops even more when she learns the truth about the supernatural world. Her reactions are not only relatable but sometimes hilarious. Even though Paige feels she may be out of her element in this new world, she's still determined and fierce to defend her and her friends. Even when she might do something dumb, she recognizes her error and moves forward, learning from her mistakes.
Paige is honestly one of the best characters I have read because she is so well developed but continues to grow as a person, a friend, etc. She knows she's not perfect, but she's fiercely loyal to her friends and lover.
Plot: Because Paige is a writer, she doesn't miss any of the cliches troubling her once peaceful life – ex-girlfriend wanting revenge, cabin in the woods, etc. I love her dry wit and sense of humor when she recognizes the cliches.
The "she's your mate" story line was a little repetitious and forced. There was a reason why Davin spent time with Paige in her dreams, and for him to argue or deny the "mate" topic was kind of frustrating. Obviously, he cares about her and has had issues in the past, but for him to deny he loves her until the end was kind of off putting.
Overall, I really enjoyed the story and look forward to the next book as the last few chapters introduced some new characters and left some story lines unfinished.

Comments: "The Muse's Touch" was a fantastic novel. As far as paranormal romances go, I think it has pretty much everything a reader would expect and could want. Between the well-rounded, relatable characters, a plot that is balanced parts action/romance/erotica, and some surprising reveals, it was a great read. It was also an 'easy' read in the best possible way. Your style is professional, and the rare perfect balance between description and efficiency. There isn't a single suggestion I can make here. Also, I have to say, your chapter lengths and pacing are pure perfection. There wasn't a single time that I was wondering when the chapter was going to end, which means my interest was sustained the whole time, and you didn't overwrite scenes. Just like with the other works of yours I've read, you don't waste words and you are talented at telling a story with just the right amount of detail.
As for your feedback requests/writing traits. Yes, there were some technical errors sprinkled throughout the text, but honestly- that is what editors are for. You can't possibly write the novel and be as close as you are to the text, and be able to pick out every error. For the most part, they didn't detract from the story. I think there were only one or two times I had to reread a sentence due to a missing or incorrect word. Seriously nothing to worry about.
The relationships in the novel were well written. You managed to avoid that trope of 'woman suddenly falling in love with dangerous and mysterious fae/demon/vampire' kind of thing because they had known each other for two years. Then, you did exactly what you needed to make it feel real by having Paige take the length of the book to learn to trust him again. Thank you for not having her fall all over him in a puddle of un-earned trust and love. Properly built relationship don't happen often in novels like this, and you've done a beautiful job.
As a side note, there were so many little giggles you earned from me by putting in references to her writing, or thoughts about the plot line she was already in. I appreciated those little wall breaks, and they made me enjoy it that little bit more.
The only thing that threw me a little in this novel, and this is minor, was Maeve's appearance. I understand that it was foreshadowed with the oracle (who I secretly love as a character- he was so fun to read), but having her show up when and how she kinda made me do a double take. It felt too convenient and a bit deus ex machina. Of course, the following explanation made complete sense and gave it all context, but there was a lot of new stuff introduced in detail right at the pointy end, and it confused my simple brain a little. Honestly, though, that didn't change the fact that I enjoyed the novel, and I am sure that over the span of the series, it will all balance out really well. Also, as Paige said, it all kinda really fits into the genre well, so there is that also.
Thank you for sharing your beautifully written story in Wattpad. You have a natural talent for writing and an engrossing writing style, and I'm looking forward to reading more.

Comments: First of all, I must say that I have read my fair share of Incubus stories on Wattpad, but Davin and Paige's story has a very unique touch to it and it was such a pleasant surprise to see how the author weaved her own magical world involving these creatures.
Of course there's sex, but the build-up to each scenario was well thought out and it did not feel rushed or meaningless like many other stories that have an Incubus character. So that was very much appreciated.
I love the way the author uses dialogue to help push the story forward. It makes the flow of reading that much more enjoyable.
Her character development is also something that I liked a lot, each one adding their own special touch to the story in various ways. The exchanges between Davin and Finn had me laughing so much, the author has an addictive sense of humour.
In terms of the pacing, I had no real complaints about it.
There were a few typos scattered about, but nothing a quick edit won't fix. I only got to chapter 10 but I plan on finishing the book as I really am enjoying the story.

Comments: 1. I read to ch. 11 because I ran out of time! I plan on continuing the read.
2. Book expectations: I thought from the cover/blurb that it was a paranormal/fantasy book and my expectations were met.
3. Plot: The plot was awesome and unique. I'm not usually a fan of the romance writer's journey trope, but the paranormal twist kept cool. It pulled me in and I had to force myself to STOP reading! So good!
4. Characters: Paranormal elements aside, I thought everyone was believable. I could relate to Paige's feeling of trusting someone who didn't turn out to be who she thought, and Davin's feeling of being caught up in a painful past and worries frustrating what he really wants. I haven't reached who the villain is, yet. But I'm intrigued to find out! I'm also a sucker for well-explained urban fantasy/paranormal creatures and this book definitely did that.
5. Pacing: Great. Sometimes when steamy parts are in the beginning, it depletes tension overall. Not so, here. The author does a great job of continuing that tension w/little phrases and touches, making the reader excited for what's to come.
6. Descriptions: I don't need much description, just enough for me to fill in the rest, so it seemed great here, and there weren't times I felt there was *too much* description.
7. Writer's style: I love this writer's style. Story structure/timing/descriptions/paragraph size/chapter lengths: everything and all the things were great. I would consider improving dialogue just a tad. The characters are so unique, I think the author could capitalize on that more through their dialogue.
8. Strengths/Weaknesses: I agree with the author's self-assessment of strengths/weaknesses. I love well-researched paranormal/fantasy and the author did well relying on lore to make it more believable/relatable. Weakness is editing, but that's what editors are for! There wasn't any point in time I got so frustrated with the editing that I didn't want to continue. I didn't see too many -ing words and there weren't any independent body parts that I could tell.
9. Help: Because I'm in ch. 11, I don't feel super qualified to assess this because I'm only halfway into the character/story arc and I'm probably right at the turning point for character internal/external conflict. I think it should be assessed by whether the author intended for me to feel the following things at this point. I don't see a healthy relationship, yet. To determine that, I think about what I would tell my bff if she was in an argument with her significant other. Right now (in its most basic way of putting it for a real talk w/a friend) I'd tell her I'm seeing a liar who, for the past two years, has cheated on, and fed off of, the unsuspecting woman he refuses to realize he loves, and a woman who is becoming fine with that reality because the liar is now physically protecting her, even though it's likely he's the reason why she needs protection in the first place. That's not a relationship I'd want for my best friend, but it provides tension in the book and I anticipate it becoming healthy. I'm also not entirely convinced Paige is a very strong female character. She seems pretty passive so far, but I like that she's held on to the dagger and is trying to figure out how to keep herself safe...Although sidebar: it's kind of a personal pet peeve of mine when there's a quick training montage of sorts and now the Plain Jane FMC can kill all the demons so I'm hoping that's not gonna happen, lol. I loved the plot and I love where it's going. There's not too much lore (although I love lore), exposition was fine and timing felt spot on, I thought the author did well showing v. telling.
10. I will definitely keep reading and I would for sure read more by this author.

Comments: 1. What did you think the book was about? The book is about the erotic romance author who meets the muse in her dreams.
2. Did you feel the book fulfilled your expectation? I always try to never put any expectation. I expected that the drama will about the struggle between Paige and Davin to be together. But later it more complex problem than just the above-mentioned problem.
3. What about the plot? The plot was interesting, the author meets her lover through dreams and Davin who is an incubus or devil who the job/duty is to feed the human in their dreams. I just wonder why they must feed humans through dreams? Is it will affect their life or their strength? And what is about the creature that appears in chapter 4/5? What is the relation with Paige? It makes me interesting because I am not the one who really enjoy reading 'erotic romance' without complex drama or can be said to just provide love story. But the thought this story will provide the mystery, it draws me more to read the story.
4. Do the characters seem real and believable? Paige is a believable character as an ordinary woman. However, I am not read much as I can't tell about her development. As Davin, since he is an incubus/devil who attracted more to Paige. I haven't much information about his race's background and objectives for a living (it was because I didn't read enough chapter to know all about.)
5. How the pacing of the chapters? The pacing was somewhat okay since it changes between Paige and Davin. So we can know how their feelings. I will not judge the pacing is good or bad since it is the right of the author.
6. How about the description? The author is really good at describing the setting, action, and feelings. As not an English native reader, I really love the author's use of words and the writing style. I can learn about the phrase and sentence structure.
7. Describe what you like and dislike of the writer's style? I love the writing style, description, and vocabulary. As I mentioned above, I can learn about writing by reading the author's book. As for the dislike, Honestly, I am not a good reviewer about that subject since I am not a native English.
8. Would you read more about the author's work?Yes. When I have time I will read the author's work as I do it not just for fun but also to learn more about writing.
9. Comment for the strongest or weakest writing trait, alongside with the help.I can't say much about the advice, but I can say about the characters. As the author writes about non-human MC, it should have the foundation about what it was, what its strength/weakest, what it's the goal in life, etc. So that we can make believable characters as I read some other stories create the supernatural MC with all the mighty and lack of research. So that's why I am not writing about supernatural beings as for now.

Comments: 1. How many chapters did you read? 8
2. What did you think the book was about? The summary was neat and concise – it was clear that the book was about an incubus who is not like other demons but instead has a moral code. He visits Paige in her dreams and eventually circumstances cause them to collide in real life.
3. Did you feel that the book fulfilled your expectations? Yes, the book fulfilled all of my expectations and more. It stayed true to the summary/description, the characters caught my interest right away, and the love scenes were hot.
4. What about the plot? I thought the plot was creative, unique, and well-developed. Paige and Davin/Shade caught my attention from the very first chapter. The concept of a writer finding her inspiration from her muse via erotic dreams is fascinating. I also appreciate the attention and detail you put into blending mythology and the supernatural with a modern setting. The red-eyed demon dog targeting Paige adds a mysterious thriller element to the story and I'm definitely invested now, hoping things work out for our couple.
5. Do the characters seem real and believable? It was very easy to identify with Paige, the erotic romance writer who puts on a certain, glamorous persona to impress her readers but, in reality, seems very laid back and down to earth, preferring to dream and fantasize at home rather than be out on the town. She definitely comes across as a strong female lead. Her walls don't come down easily and she's not afraid to defend herself if needed. It's clear that she allows herself to be dominated by Davin by choice, not because she's weak. And of course, I love, love, love the sensitive, romantic Dom trope which Davin easily fits into. He comes across as charming, genuine, and very protective. I love the delicious conflict between him and Paige once she discovers the truth about him, and yet the magnetic attraction to one another still comes through. The supporting characters (siblings/friends) were well written as well and helped to add depth to Paige and Davin.
6. How was the pacing of the chapters you read? I thought the pacing was just fine. The chapters were a good length and kept me interested.
7. How was the description of the chapters you read? Great descriptive language, especially the dream sequences. I got the impression that the characters were walking on air, with things appearing and dissolving at their command without the burden of being confined to the physics of reality. The way you described the Inugami definitely gave me the chills and brought the story to life.
8. Describe what you liked or disliked about the writer's style? I like your style of writing. The dialogue is rich – mixed in with the characters' emotions, thoughts, and feelings. As already mentioned, your descriptive language is great as well. You did a good job of describing the characters, what they were wearing, eye color, hair, gestures, tone of voice, etc. There were some technical writing errors that I noticed, and I know you said to be generous as this is a trouble spot for you, so I won't get too hung up on it. Just in general, the main things I noticed were tense shifts, incorrect word usage at times, and a few spelling errors. It definitely wasn't anything major though that took away from being able to enjoy the story. Additionally, I love your erotic language in the love scenes (hot!) and the dom-sub relationship between Davin and Paige.
9. Would you read more of the author's work? I definitely would read more of your work! I've enjoyed being in the EBC club and reading everyone's books, but this is one of the few that I'll be adding to my personal reading list and I look forward to reading the rest of it very soon.
10. Comment on their strongest and weakest writing trait along with their help request and give overall thoughts: I definitely agree that your strength is creating well-rounded, 3-dimensional characters and a strong plot line. Both Paige and Davin come across as complex characters with a lot of layers that are slowly being peeled away as the story progresses. I can also tell you've done a lot of research with this story in terms of the mythological demon lore. As already mentioned, there were some technical writing issues, but it didn't take away from the story at all and I'm sure they would be picked up by a Beta/editor.
As far as your help request, I only read up until chapter 8 but it definitely seems like Paige and Davin are on the way towards a healthy relationship full of understanding and respect for one another. It makes sense that Paige was defensive and wary after finding out that Davin was actually Shade and had been feeding on her, but I can already tell that she's beginning to trust him and it's clear that he really cares about her well-being, regardless of what happens between them romantically. Paige also comes across as strong and determined and even Davin notices that she's not as easy to control/manipulate as other women. I don't think the plot was weighed down at all by too much lore, I found it interesting.
All in all, I really enjoyed this story and I look forward to finishing it as soon as I get the chance. Thanks for sharing and good luck with your publishing.

Comments: Dear Pixie SC:
Wow. You are a real writer in the making! Thank you for sharing your story. I have been stealing away from my normal life to live in the fantasy you have created...and I love it. The sexy beginning was was a treat and then you build the tension from there. I like your style of introducing the characters, they are relatable and your exploration of who they are is easy to follow. That is not an easy thing for writers.
I have gotten through Chapter 11 to date, and promise to read more but have to move on to my next assignment. Boo hoo. I hate to put it down, as I know its got to heat up again with Paige and Dav in the flesh. Can he be as good in real life??
I don't really have any significant criticism, but will dive in with a few suggestions. I don't have a good understanding of the fantasy world you are populating. How would I know what an incubus is suppose to be, or a inugami, for that matter. I have read some Japanese fantasy fiction (The Ronin Trilogy by Travis Heermann, highly recommended) but they didn't have inugami. I think your readers would be well served by some literary tool to bring this thing into our consciousness. Could be crazy scary.
I would also suggest that you might give us some backstory needs some as to how Paige and Ainsley became friends. Then, how the incubi brothers came together. Maybe it's just me wanting more of your writing! LOL. But, critically, if these soles have been around for centuries, why haven't they moved on from the pickup scene? They act like a pack of 20-year-olds. Or is that just their natures?
Anyway. Great writing..Great story. Thanks for getting me going. Can't wait to circle back and watch your career blossom!

Comments: 1) What did you think the book was about? I was intrigued from the very first blurb. I'd read Clarity's Faded Dreams, which is slightly similar in concept (the dreamlike aspect) and so I was already excited at the prospect of another story where the love interest visits the woman in her dreams. It also excited me that the main character was a romance author because it's a refreshing break from the typical female MC's who are either students or don't really have a developed background/career.
2) Did you feel the book fulfilled your expectations? I was very pleasantly surprised. I was already excited to read it, but it was paced evenly, it read easily, not too wordy, not undescriptive. I like that the author mentioned that Paige was pretending during her interview because as I was reading it, it came across as a forced and I liked that I could tell Paige was pretending even before I knew it. I already love her character just within the first few chapters.
3) What about the plot? Does it pull you in? Or did you have to force yourself to read the book? Yes. From the very first chapter, the author dives into the sexual relationship between Shade/Davin and Paige and... that's what I like. (GIVE US THE SEX). And I'm an absolute fucking sucker (can we cuss in these things?) for geeks (glasses, shy, the whole shebang). I'm half in love with Paige already. Aside from that, the writing is beautiful as well. I find the author's balance of interior monologue, narrative, and dialogue makes the story flow that much better. The author's immediate introduction of the characters physical relationship didn't feel rushed like a lot of erotica stories do sometimes. Sex scenes were hot. Definitely wasn't a chore to read.
4) Do the characters seem real and believable? Still contemplating the existence of Incubus (Incubi?). However, the character's don't feel one dimensional. The author's inserts of Paige's moments where she closes her eyes to imagine the park bench memory is sweet and endears me to her right off the bat. I feel like we get to know her well in just the first chapter because rather than lists of her attributes or info dumping, we learn that she sort of plays these two parts— the face of her professional brand, and who she is when no one else is looking. Another aspect that I love. Shade/Davin is mysterious. Dominant. And hot. And that's what I get after the first sex scene.
5) How was the pacing of the chapters? I didn't feel as though each moment was rushed or something was unevenly paced. I think the author balances those three components (narrative, IM, and dialogue) well and it makes the story enjoyable to read and more importantly easy to be sucked into the world of the story. As I grow in my reading and writing, I notice that grammar, pacing, and inconsistency mistakes can take me out of the author's world and this story doesn't have that issue.
6) How was the description of the chapters? The description of the first sex scene was superb. I also love that the writer shows us the characters through scenes, rather than solely describing them. It's a matured way of writing I'm currently trying to master. For example, I love how after the sex scene, Davin is pulled from his dream and brought to the present where he's at work. Right away we're told that he works in an office, he's a real person, and we're let into his life and the author doesn't tell us but shows us.
7) Describe what you like and dislike about the writer's style. One of the issues I have with third person and inexperienced writers, is that sometimes their character's point of view in the story can come off as impersonal. It's also why I prefer first person point of view stories, but I didn't have that problem with this story. I felt like I was reading the work of a very advanced writer and I fell in love with these characters.
8) Would you read more of the author's work? Yes, I would. I actually plan to continue reading the story even after I've written the review. I am past pleasantly surprised.
9) Strongest Writing Trait: Creativity, character development, writing style. Grammar. Balance. Structure. Weakest Writing Trait: At times I felt as though the passion between the characters could be more intensely expressed, but that's a very nitpicky (and subjective) opinion.
