I stare in shock at the newspaper in front of me, despair clawing at my heart. How do they know? How'd they find out? And most of all, WHY DID THEY TELL EVERYONE?!

I stood there, hyperventilating, unable to look away from the front page:

"HERMIONE GRANGER: BAD TO THE BONE
It has been found that the goody-two-shoes Hermione Granger, graduated witch prodigy of Hogwarts school of Witchcraft and Wizardry, Ex-Ministress of Magic, hero of the Second Wizarding War, is in fact, a murderer, and a wanted thief. At the age of four, she purposefully set fire to the house of a wealthy pure blood wizard, after stealing everything in the house that cost more than 200,000 galleons. These steaks continued until the age of eight, when she was adopted from a foster home by the muggles Mr. and Mrs. Granger..."

It continued along this line for three pages. The only thing they didn't write is that I was coerced. Not by a spell, but by muggle-like means, threats on the lives of myself, my various foster families, and my friends. I already knew that not even Harry and Ron would take my word for that, their minds would be filled with this.

I sigh. Though I hated to do this, I knew there was no choice but to vanish. I took my stuff, packed it, left the latest rent for my apartment, and the keys, and apparated to an unlikely place for me to be, a rich neighborhood, that was actually quite near the Malfoy's.

I bought a mansion under my birth name, Alexandra Burgan, heir to the house of Burgan, pureblood. I dressed in an off-the-shoulder lilac gown, wore high-heeled boots, and applied makeup. The only way to hide from my past any longer was to throw away the girl-next-door facade and be me, an unspoiled rich girl who was reluctant to trust the world that took her family and forced her to commit unspeakable deeds, when, worst of all, she had no control over her magic at that age.
