I Get A Dagger In My Face
I Get A Dagger In My Face
I had the best life a demigod could have. It was after the Titan War, a month after the Great Prophecy had passed. Everything had cooled down. Who wants to guess how it got messed up?
No one? Okay, let me start.
It started out with me waking up in the Poseidon cabin to a dagger in my face.
"Who are you and why were you sleeping in Percy Jackson's bunk? And why do you look like him?" A blurred face with blonde hair stared down at me while holding a dagger across my neck.
"Good one Annabeth," I laughed and sat up, only to be pushed back down by her.
"How do you know my name? Who are you? Answer my questions!" Annabeth screamed at me.
By now, I was starting to get worried. I had seen Annabeth act before, and she was believeable. You could only tell she was faking if you looked for it, which I did. She was not acting this time.
"Okay, you're really freaking me out. Don't you remember me? I've known you for 5 years."
She sheathed her dagger and got up, pacing around the cabin. "I have never seen you before in my life."
Now I was surprised.
I rose up from my bunk and stood in front of Annabeth. "It's me, Percy Jackson. Your boyfriend."
She looked at me, disbelief written all over her face. A determined expression replaced it. "Ha! Nice try. You can't be Percy Jackson. I just said goodbye to him last week when he went to visit his mother for a few days. You just want attention if you claim to be the demigod who single-handedly defeated Kronos. Much less my boyfriend."
I never went to visit my mother last week. Last week, I was here, at Camp Half-Blood. It's nice to know that people think I defeated Kronos by myself, but that's not what happened. Now, back to Annabeth not recognizing me.
I was stunned. She really didn't remember.
"I need to talk to Chiron." I pushed past Annabeth and walked out of the cabin to go to the Big House.
"Hey punk, you a newbie?" Came a familiar snarl.
I sighed, "C'mon Clarisse. Even you don't remember me?"
She scowled, "I think I would remember someone as ugly as you. Let's welcome him to Camp, shall we?" She grinned at her siblings.
"Not again," I muttered under my breath.
As Clarisse reached for me I uncapped Riptide and pointed it at her. "I wouldn't do that if I were you." I casually threatened. "You wouldn't want a repeat of last time."
"What do you mean last time? I don't know you."
Great, I thought. Even she doesn't remember.
Then, she seemed to notice Riptide. She pulled Maimer out of it's sheath and pointed it at me. "How do you have Percy Jackson's sword? I may not like him, but he's almost a friend."
Annabeth appeared next to me. "Clarisse, he says he is Percy Jackson."
"Ha! You, Percy Jackson? That's funny."
I scowled, "You want a demonstration?" I didn't wait for an answer.
I closed my eyes and felt the familiar tug in my gut. Water from the lake burst into the air and swirled around. I summoned my own personal hurricane.
Every camper in eyesight stopped and stared. Whispers filled the air.
"What--"
"--Percy Jackson--"
"--only one who can do that."
Clarisse and Annabeth gasped and jumped back. They looked at each other and yelled, "Chiron!"
A few moments later the centaur arrived. He took one look at the situation and said, "Annabeth, I need to talk to him," he pointed at me. "Please make sure the campers are calm, I will talk to you before the campfire once I have more information." He yanked me up onto his back and trotted off towards his office.
I jumped off of his back once we reached the Big House and he climbed into his wheelchair. "Let's get straight to the point. I am Percy Jackson. Last night I went to bed and everyone remembered me. I woke up this morning to Annabeth not knowing who I was and her saying there was another Percy Jackson who went to visit my mother last week. I know that's not true and--"
"Percy, slow down. I know," he placed a gentle hand on my shoulder. "I remember you. I was just as surprised as you when I figured out that no one remembered you."
I thought for a moment. "You really remember me? You're not just saying that to get me to cooperate?"
"Ask me something about Yancy Academy."
"What did Mrs. Dodds look like? And what did you say to me when you threw a pen at me to defeat Mrs. Dodds?"
He smiled, "Mrs. Dodds always wore a black leather jacket although she was 50 years old. I said 'What ho, Percy!' when I gave you Riptide."
My turn to smile, "Oh, thank the gods. You do remember me!" I hugged Chiron, which was a bit easier now that he was in wheelchair form.
"Yes," he chuckled, "Now, we must find out what happened. It is very intriguing. It seems as though everyone remembers a Percy Jackson, but not you." He stroked his beard and fished a golden drachma from a pocket in his chair. "I will ask the gods. Let's hope that they remember you."
He grabbed a prism and started to make a rainbow but froze. The trees and grass outside stopped moving, even the campers were motionless. In fact, everything froze. Everything but me.
A dark mist coiled around the door and moved into the shape of a man. The air was filled with the smell of salt and the ocean. I backed away and lifted Riptide. "Who are you? What do you want?"
"I'm not surprised you don't recognize me. I haven't been seen in many, many years. My name is Pontus."
Pontus, Pontus. I ran through my knowledge of the Greek Gods and to find him. "You're a Primordial," I realized. "The Primordial God of the Sea."
"Good, good, you are--"
"Smarter than I look? I get that a lot."
He laughed. "As for your other question, I did this."
I paled. "Are you saying that you are the one who made everyone but Chiron forget me?"
"Yes, but your friend Grover remembers you as well. Too many memories from Yancy Academy to mess with."
Well, that's good to know, I thought. "Why? Why would you do this?"
Pontus laughed again and started to fade. "You're a smart boy, you said it yourself. I'm sure you can figure it out."
Now angry, I lunged at him only to fall through the black vapor. "See you soon, little demigod."
I sprang up, ready to fight, but only saw Chiron's shocked face. "Percy, what happened?"
