I Find Out That People Can Be Really Dramatic, We Only Died And Came Back
There it was. My old home. The place I had loved so much. The place that had held so many good memories. The place that had now been ruined for me.
They were waiting. Apparently Chiron and Grover had taken my heads up as an invitation to gather the whole camp. Down in the valley, they stared in amazement as we stepped out of the portal next to Thalia's tree.
Chiron and Grover were at the front of the crowd. They both smiled when they saw me. My hood was on, yet it had to be me since there was no one else with a hood.
"All right," Chaos gathered us in a circle. "You know the drill. Save them, have fun while you do, maybe play some pranks, humiliate people, etc. The one thing I do not want is to come back to you guys serious. Don't turn all cold and thoughtful on me." Chaos looked at us sternly, and Silena was having trouble holding back a giggle. "I have created a cabin for you. It is in the middle of the cabins. The Hunters will be coming tomorrow. You know what that means, Capture the Flag. They will still allow you to play since there are a few of you, even though you are gods. It will end up being you vs. the Camp and the Hunters. And Percy?" He looked at me. "Since you would like to stay hidden, you will be called Sotirios." Salvation, fitting. "Also, don't beat them too hard."
I grinned innocently. "No promises." Chaos winked and then vanished.
We turned back to the valley and walked down. Once we were in sight, gasps and sobs were heard. Finally Luke, Beckendorf, Silena, and Nancy broke. They each rushed towards their respective cabins. Luke, it seemed, had been forgiven by everyone. They were passed around and hugged, some of the newer Hephaestus campers almost fangirled after meeting Beckendorf.
The rest of us slowly made our way down the hill. The team left their siblings and assembled in a V formation. I was at the front, Luke at my right side, Daedalus slightly lower on my left, Zoë right, Beckendorf left, Bianca right, Silena left, and then Nancy right.
We came to a stop in front of the worn centaur. "Chiron. We have come to help you fight. I assume you have told them who we will be fighting?" Luke asked. Chiron nodded.
"Good. I will allow the few of us with family to catch up. The rest of us will see you at dinner and we will explain more at the campfire." I sent a silent invitation to Chiron and Grover before I turned on my heel and walked off, trying to avoid an uncomfortable meeting with a certain daughter of Athena.
Zoë and Bianca followed me. Nancy and Luke left with the Hermes cabin, Silena with the Aphrodite cabin, Beckendorf with the Hephaestus cabin, and Daedalus left with the Athena cabin. I had feeling he would be occupied for a while.
The three of us reached the cabins and located ours. It was pitch black and looked tiny, but we knew better. As suspected, once we stepped inside there was much more room. Each room was customized for its owner.
"All right, I know you two will want to hang out with the Hunters tomorrow so, I give you permission. You will be on our team for Capture the Flag, though."
"Of course." They chorused and exited the room, chatting about how nice it would be to see Lady Artemis and her Hunters again.
Once they were gone a knock was heard. I opened the cabin door to see Chiron and Grover. I motioned for them to come in and closed the door after them. The ceiling was tall enough for Chiron to be in his centaur form comfortably.
"Percy." Chiron smiled. Grover couldn't handle it and he attacked me.
"Perrrrcy!" He tackled me in large goat hug. "Why didn't you keep in touch? We've missed you so much!"
"Sorry guys, it was just painful. I missed you guys too. A lot." I answered their questions from yesterday.
"So." I knew I couldn't put it off any longer. "What's up with Annabeth and the fake me?"
Chiron sighed. "Annabeth has changed. She no longer comes to me when she needs help. She fakes being okay to impress the phony. She's more carefree and not serious. Not like a child of Athena. And him. He has the Camp wrapped around his finger. Everyone has forgotten about the mysterious camper who appeared 3 years ago that claimed to be Percy Jackson. All he ever does is use Kronos as an excuse to get his way or get attention."
Grover took over from there, mocking the fake me. "'Percy, can you help me teach these campers?' 'Are you sure you want me to only help? I mean, I did defeat Kronos. Why not have a professional do this?' 'Percy, why did you almost drown us?' 'Do you really want to challenge the destroyer of Kronos?' Blah, blah, blah. I don't know how we've managed to keep this Camp running, the way he acts. Whenever we have a quest, which has only been twice since you left, he is always asked to go. He always refuses, saying he's too important to risk going on a quest. I really hope they remember the real you soon."
"Wait, they still don't? This is a time of need! Why wouldn't they remember me?"
"I don't know. Sorry, Percy. They will eventually, I know it. I must go, and so must you, Grover. But Percy, please do not kill anyone. Try to make it to the campfire before hurting someone." He ducked out of the cabin with Grover trailing behind. I sighed.
It's gonna be a long and hard visit.
Daedalus burst through the door and he did not look happy. "The nerve of that girl! I can't believe her! I trusted her with it and . . ." He muttered to himself.
"Calm down, what's going on?" I sat up from the couch I had been laying on.
He held up the laptop in his arms. "This! Do you recall when I died? I gave Annabeth my computer. Now I come and see her using it. What is she doing? Playing games and using the 3D model to impress some guy!"
I winced. Annabeth had changed, and not for the better. That's when the seriousness of the situation hit me.
This was a lot worse than I thought.
I couldn't think about that right now. We were preparing for war. I couldn't focus on my old love.
The conch horn sounded and we left for dinner. As we walked, the rest of the team slowly joined our clump, each one grinning like a madman. I guess they had a good time.
It looked like Chaos had created a table for us as well. He seemed to have been in one of his grand moods and had put it smack dab in the center of the pavilion. The other tables had been pushed a bit closer together, seeing as how ours was twice as big as theirs. Instead of a white cloth, it was gold trimmed in black.
Way to make us not feel important. I stared at the sky. Really.
Sorry Percy. I couldn't resist.
I sighed. He'll never change. We sat down at our table and waited. The rest of the campers slowly made their way in. Once everyone was seated, the nymphs brought out the food.
We got up and scraped food into the fires, each one of us praying to Chaos and our godly parent. I didn't want to reveal myself so I just prayed to Chaos.
My team had developed an appetite over the years of training, so we chowed down. Slice after slice of pizza, piece after piece of brisket, glass after glass of beverage. About 5 minutes into the meal, I looked up and saw the campers staring at us. Grover tried to hide his smile in a napkin, and Chiron chuckled. I looked at our table and saw that we had eaten every last morsel of food that we had been given. The team looked at me, and we simultaneously burst out laughing.
The campers stared at us like we were idiots, especially me. I shrugged it off. "What? Never seen people laugh before?" That jolted them back to reality and they focused on their food.
When everyone was done we gathered in the amphitheater. We ate smores, ignored glares, and joked around. Finally, Chiron decided it was time.
He stomped his hoof to get our attention. "I know you all are curious about our visitors. If some of them would like to come up here and explain, they may."
Show time.
Luke, Zoë and I stood up and walked to the front of the crowd. I took a deep breath. "Okay, well. Hello. I am Sotirios. I believe you know Luke and Zoë already. I guess you want to know how they are alive."
Luke took over. "In our generation, certain demigods and in Zoë's case, Hesperides, are chosen when they are born. We are born with a special power, so that when we die Chaos can locate us and bring us back. That happened to each one of us, although Sotirios never died. Anyway! Zoë, why don't you explain why we are here?" He pointed to her as if to say 'take it away!'
She rolled her eyes, muttering under her breath. "We have learned that Tartarus is rising and he is not alone. Obviously this is bad. Whenever an old god or Primordial, or Titan, or whatever rises, they want power. To get that power, they try to overthrow the Olympians. We are here to keep that from happening."
Someone stood up. "What makes you think we need help?" It was me.
Zoë narrowed her eyes. "Because, boy. Nearly every single person on this team has fought a Primordial and won. Beckendorf is now Ophion, Silena is Ananke, I am Physis, Bianca is Nyx, Nancy is Hemera, Sotirios is Pontus and Daedalus hasn't battled his yet. We were only able to after mass amounts of training, and because of the power we hold. Would you like us to test it out on you?"
For once, he was smart and backed down.
She smiled. "That's what I thought. Now--"
Another person rose. "Excuse me, but who are you? Sotirios can't be your real name. And I feel like I know you from a few years ago." Annabeth directed at me.
"That's for me to know and for you to not find out. And I have not set foot on Earth in 18 years." You gotta love Chaos years.
That shut her up and she sat.
"Now, as we were saying. We are here to help you defeat Tartarus. We have visited the gods and have been informed that the Hunters of Artemis will be joining us tomorrow. We have gotten permission from Chiron for a game of Capture the Flag with them tomorrow night." We hadn't, but I knew it would be okay. "It will be my team versus you and the Hunters. Anymore questions?"
Crickets chirped. Nothing happened. "Okay then, we will be holding a battle meeting a few days from now with the head of each cabin. Also, we have one condition about the boundaries for tomorrow's game. We would like the creek."
The fake me stood up once more. "You can have anywhere but the creek. We made a rule a few years ago that only the team that has someone with control over water can use it. Since I am the son of Poseidon, I have control over water. I doubt you do."
I sighed. he never learns. "You wanna bet?" I manipulated the water in his body and lifted him into the air. The water molecules in the air followed my commands and formed a three-pronged trident in my hand.
He swallowed. "Uh, go ahead. Take the creek." It was clear that he was mad. If the situation was switched, I would be too. After being the only person who could control water it's not nice to find someone with the same powers and more, plus he knows how to do more with the same powers.
I released him and let the water dissipate into a mist.
Scoffing in disgust, Zoë, Luke and I turned away. We left to go back to our cabin and the rest of the team followed.
This will be an interesting visit.
