Death Scenes Are So Dramatic

"No!" I knelt down and screamed. The monsters around me disintegrated as I unleashed the inner power I found when I destroyed Pontus. My double was nowhere in sight. "Chaos! You can't die."

The world froze, literally. Chaos used one of his powers to freeze time. "It is okay, Perseus. Stay with me. Don't worry about your comrades, they will be fine."

"No. No, you can't die. You're the most powerful being in the universe. No one can take that responsibility. Then the world will fall apart. I know you play a bigger part on Earth than you have told me. How will this planet survive?" I cradled Chaos's head in my lap.

He lifted a finger and pointed at me. "You. That is how this planet will survive. Now I know why you were brighter than the rest of the team. You were destined to take my place."

"What?" I said incredulously. "Take your place? You mean, become the new Chaos? What?"

He kept going. "Why Daedalus was never chosen to fight a Primordial. He was destined to inherit it from you." At this word Daedalus appeared next to me.

"Chaos? What's happening? Why did you bring me here? Why do you look like you are going to die?" Daedalus knelt next to me. One look at my my face told him what he needed to know. "You can't die! What will we do?"

Once again, Chaos ignored our questions. "Your fates were decided when you were born. You can't change it. I know you both will do well." I felt my power leave me, every power I had gotten from Pontus. Daedalus gasped as that power entered him. We had changed. He was now Pontus. Chaos looked at me after he had finished transferring my power. "You are the bravest, and greatest demigod of all time. Better than the original Perseus. Make me proud, Perseus Jackson."

Chaos withered as he drained himself of the power he was given when he had been created. A small ball of light floated up from the cut in his arm, and traveled over to me where it entered my arm. I yelped and fell to the ground, clutching my arm. Daedalus tried to steady me, but the pain of the new power overwhelmed my body.

The energy flooded through me and I cried out. Slowly, it started to fade. My breath came out in short pants, and I lay gasping on the ground.

I lifted myself up onto my elbows once I recovered and stared at the lifeless eyes of my former teacher. Blood stained the ground around him. We teleported the body back to the cabin, where it would be safe while we battled. The ground stained had come to pass. Chaos was dead.

Daedalus and I fought five times as hard. The Camp seemed to fear us, even the rest of the team. They asked us what had happened, why Daedalus was Pontus, why I had a more powerful aura. We didn't answer, just kept fighting until we destroyed most of the monsters. Once there were about three-hundred monsters left, fake me re-appeared and lead his army through a portal. No doubt to collect reinforcements.

Daedalus and I, once we were sure the monsters had retreated, headed back to our cabin. There, we broke down. Silena comforted us and tried to get us to say what had caused us to cry. They even brought in Drew to charmspeak us, but nothing worked.

Eventually, they let us be. When we finally calmed, our faces a blubbery mess, I called them back. They entered the cabin and waited patiently for us to talk.

I said nothing but removed Chaos's body from underneath my bunk. Looks of horror crossed their faces.

Zoë gasped. She had been the closest to him. "What? Chaos is dead?" I nodded.

We were emotionless. No one said anything. I laid his body down on the couch in the middle of the room. Every once in a while one of us would reach out as if to touch him, but dropped their hand before they could. None of us could handle the grief.

At one point Chiron came over to find out what we were doing. He understood as soon as he saw our faces and the body. He walked over to me and placed a hand on my shoulder, squeezing it gently. When I didn't respond he left.

Campers came and went, thanking us for our help. We didn't react. Just sat in silence, mourning our loss.

A few hours later when the conch horn blew, we joined the throng of people going towards the dining pavilion. We ate in silence, campers staring at us.

Finally, I threw down my fork and stood up on top of the table. "What? Never seen a person lose someone? We just lost our best friend. This isn't as simple as a campers life. Yeah, every life we lose is terrible. But this was Chaos. The creator of this world. I personally knew him, we all did."

The pavilion went silent. Annabeth was the one to break it. "Chaos is dead?" She rose from her table.

"Yes."

"He has to have a successor. Who is it?"

I scowled. "Daedalus has taken my position as Primordial God of the Sea. I am the new Chaos." Every mouth dropped open.

"Will you please tell us who you are now?" Annabeth asked.

"No. I will not."

Annabeth had another question. "Will you still be able to fight though? The ancient laws--"

"I am not the original Chaos, therefore I am not bound by the ancient laws. I can still help you." Dinner ended and we gathered at the amphitheater. Shrouds had been made, luckily only ten campers and two Hunters fell. We had quite a few wounded though.

I had created a shroud for Chaos. It was like our flag, pitch black with Oblivion on it. Oblivion had appeared in my sheath after Chaos had died.

The Olympian gods also showed up. We all said a few words about Chaos and I sent his body to the cemetery that we had put Blackjack in when we thought he was dead.

After we burned the shrouds for the other fallen warriors, the campers and Hunters left to go back to the cabins. The gods left to go back to Olympus, but not before Athena took me aside to talk.

"You act like you've been here before. If that is true, then you must know that I hate not knowing things. Who are you?"

I sighed. "You would not believe me if I told you, so why should I bother?"

She opened her mouth. "I--"

"But! When this battle is over, it is possible that you will understand. I may tell you then, but for now, no."

Before she could protest I teleported to the cabin. "Don't worry, I'm going to Chaos's planet. I need to clear my mind."

Nancy nodded. "Be safe. I'll tell the others."

I nodded before creating a portal to leave. Once there, I destroyed dummies, demolished fake monsters, and practiced with my new powers.

After managing to blow up half of the forest on the planet, I traveled back home. When I got there, I saw a sight that chilled me to the bone.

Tartarus's army was back, and it was much bigger than before. The campers were back to fighting, and so was my team. This time though, Tartarus had sent the Primordials working with him. It did not look good.
