Just to be perfectly clear so there's no confusion or anybody going, "That's not accurate to lore!" I didn't write this to be accurate to the lore already made. The story is my version, like, if I made up the Watchers, Listeners, and Speakers. It isn't supposed to be accurate at all. It's my idea and how I would've written the Watchers, Listeners, and Speakers. And it's just for fun, so it really doesn't matter.

This is based more heavily on the Life Series and Evo SMP, and not as much on Hermitcraft or Empires, so the HC or Empires members that are in the Life Series will be more like their Limited Life or Last Life characters. The same goes for those in Evo.

Once upon a time, long before the time of humans, there lived a peaceful (or as peaceful as it could get with Grian around) village called Evo that was full of human-like creatures. What made them different from humans was their ability to evolve and adapt to changes as soon as they happened. They'd change their behaviors and habits, even their appearances and instincts, in a heartbeat, whereas it would take any human weeks, months, or millions of years to change. They were called Evolutionists.

The Evolutionists were protected from the outside world by powerful deities called Watchers. The Evolutionists worshipped them and did everything they asked in return as thanks for their protection. The Watchers appreciated these acts and responded again in respect for their beloved Evolutionists. It became a cycle of mutual love and appreciation from both of them. However, the love didn't last long. The Watchers quickly became greedy, demanding more and more offerings for their service to the Evolutionists and refusing to help them without payment in return. Soon, the Evolutionists were left poor and defenseless because of the Watchers' greed, and the Watchers only sat back and enjoyed toying with the people of Evo.

Then the Listeners appeared. They listened and heard how terribly the Watchers had begun to treat their beloved mortals, and they decided to take action. They singled out two of the Evolutionists to adopt as their own to fight against the Watchers and end their reign of terror.

But the Watchers were much more powerful than the Listeners. They followed in the Listeners' footsteps and adopted two of the Evolutionists as new Watchers, except these two were given all of the powers of a real Watcher. The Listeners tried to do the same but failed; they weren't powerful enough to grant their Evolutionists the abilities of a Listener. But even still, they fought as hard as they could to defeat the Watchers.

Chaos ensued and Evo Village was destroyed by the war. Most of the Evolutionists were mercilessly slaughtered after being caught in the crossfire. The population quickly dwindled to only the four chosen Evolutionists, all exhausted from the fight. The Listeners grew stronger from the fighting and they were able to reach a stalemate where neither side could win or lose.

Once the Watchers and Listeners realised they had destroyed the entire village, they called a truce not to fight for as long as the remaining Evolutionists were alive. The peace lasted for three million years until...

Martyn and Jimmy sat on the docks, fishing and watching the pink sunset quietly together. It'd become a tradition that they spend every Friday night like this, just enjoying each other's company. It was nice, especially when it was quiet.

"You boys better come inside soon," Scott called from their house, and Martyn glanced over to see the cyanette leaning on the railing of the balcony of their little beach house. "It's getting dark."

Martyn smiled and waved. "We'll be in soon, Scootie!" he said, to which Scott quirked a brow. "Tim's just gotta catch this fish first!"

Scott giggled. "He still hasn't caught anything yet?"

Jimmy glared over his shoulder. "I'm working on it!"

"Well, make you come inside as soon as mobs start to spawn," Scott said, and Martyn and Jimmy nodded. "I don't want to lose one of you because of a fish." He blew a kiss and walked inside, likely to finish cooking.

Martyn could ever so slightly smell dried seaweed and salmon, which meant Scott was making sushi. "That's kind of weird, actually," the man murmured aloud to himself, making Jimmy turn his head.

"What is?" the other blonde asked. "That Scott thinks we'll die to a fish?"

Martyn shook his head. "No, you could definitely die to a fish," he deadpanned, earning a swat from Jimmy. "But... I can smell what Scott's making. It's weird."

Jimmy blinked. "All the way from over here?"

"Yeah." Martyn narrowed his eyes at the beach house. "All the way from over here..." He paused, then shrugged and turned back to the water. "Sort of reminds me of the war over Evo when-"

"That's over, Martyn," Jimmy interrupted, making Martyn shift awkwardly. "We don't need to talk about that anymore."

Martyn nodded and looked out to the ocean. "I miss old Evo."

Jimmy glanced at him. "Me too.

Martyn tossed in his futon and covered his head with his pillow, annoyed with Scott's and Jimmy's whispering. It was hard to sleep when they were being so loud.

They're coming.

Martyn sat upright and glared at the couple. "Y'know, if you two are going to let me sleep in your house, then you need to have the decency of-" He froze as he noticed Scott's peaceful, sleeping state. "Scott?" There was no response from the man other than a soft snore that made Martyn smile. "If you're asleep, than this is Timmy's doing. Tim- What?" He looked over at where Jimmy was sprawled out on the floor next to his futon, snoring loudly. "They're both asleep."

They're coming, Listener.

Martyn covered his ears. "Whoever you are, you need to buzz off," he said through clenched teeth as the whispers he was hearing became louder. It was getting painful. "This isn't funny-"

Listen for the ones who speak.

"...Speakers?" Martyn murmured.

We will give you the freedom you seek.

New story!!!!!

I'm so excited for this one, like genuinely. Also shout out to ExplodingBiscuit for helping out with this. It was really fun to work with him on this AU and I'm really really excited to share this with you all!!

Also, all of the Hermits/Last Lifers/Empires folks live where Evo used to be and they all live together so it isn't like a seperate worlds coming together and whatnot. They just live happily and peacefully together :D /pos

But anyway, I hope you enjoyed the prologue! The first chapter is also out right now, so you don't even have to wait!

Thanks for reading and have a wonderful rest of your day/evening. Love y'all! <33 /p
