CH. 1 (Elle)
I sat upon my bed locked in my bedroom, my tears were long gone. I had cried non stop since my Parents had given me the horrible news that now the urge was long gone.
I was no longer sad, nor angry...actually I found that I was sorta in a drifting along mode, I knew there wasn't anything I could do and therefore I was simply going along with everything...but I wasn't my normal self.
I remember the day perfectly.
I had just gotten home from a girls night out with Trisha. I was on cloud nine as I walked toward the stairs when my father had called me into the sitting room.
"We've got some news...We're moving to Alaska." They said excitedly as if this was the best thing anyone could have said.
They didn't realize how much they had just ruined my life.
I am a proud born and raised Texan.
My whole life is here. My friends, Everything i've ever known, here in TEXAS, not Alaska. But my parents just couldn't wrap their heads around this minuscule fact.
Every since my Dad turned 50 it's like Hello old age, Good Bye common sense. He sold our family Vehicle for a sports car, pulled out money from his stocks and bought a Harley Davidson Motorcycle, and this last straw broke the camel's back. My stepmom and I had to sit back and watch as he sold our home and bought a much "cheaper" house in Alaska.
Freaking Alaska, and no i don't mean Anchorage, No it's a small town called Healy.
I cringe at the thought of the my upcoming Senior year.
After I had finished packing everything I had to get out of the house, I only for a moment of peace... So I found my way to the park, I sat on a picnic table and just watched as time went by, finally the sun dipped down behind the houses and then I knew I had to leave.

"Yes, Finally!" I said exhaustedly.
After being in Alaska for two weeks, we had finally gotten our furniture and all of our boxes transfer over. I stood in my closet and looked proudly at my clothes as I had just finished putting away the last article of clothing.
I broke down the box and added it to the pile of empty boxes.
I needed a well deserved break so I grabbed a magazine and a little throw blanket before I made my way outside to sit on my balcony.
As angry as I was to move to Alaska, I couldn't hold it up for too long. Plus Alaska was beautiful, Healy held some very picturesque landscapes, and I just so happened to have a killer view from my balcony of some mountains and trees creating a stunning backdrop.
But the selling point for me was the huge lake we had in our back yard.
It was a ways away from our house, maybe 15 yards away from our back door, But if i squinted i could make out the Alaskan Mansion.
I had taken to calling the house in the distance "The Alaskan Mansion." It was beyond huge. The only time I ever saw the house was when we drove past our house and had to pull into the Alaskan Mansion's driveway to turn back around.
After I got comfortable on one of the chairs, I wrapped my blanket around me like a shaw and I started flipping through the pages. I didn't get too far into my magazine when I heard my bedroom door click open.
I looked up and saw Catherine enter my room with a mug.
"Here you go Honey, some Hot chocolate."
"Thanks Cat." I said putting the magazine down and shooting her a smile.
"Anytime Honey."
I sighed contently and picked up the warm mug. It was August and already it was cold.
Dad had started his Business right away and he already owned 7 fully grown pure bred Huskies, and 3 of his females were pregnant. He promised me a puppy of my choice, which I have to admit i was actually pretty excited about.
School would be starting tomorrow and this was something I wasn't exactly stoked about.
When Catherine called for me I knew it was time for dinner so I washed up and then headed downstairs.
I set the table and she happily served us. There was mindless chit-chat between her and Dad. When Dad's hand waving in front of me pulled me from a trance I didn't even know I was in.
"You alright there kiddo?" He asked with humor in his eyes.
I smiled at him and smacked his hand away. "Sorry, just spaced out i guess."
"Well anyways, you excited for tomorrow, you have a big day."
I rolled my eyes and propped my elbow up on the table and laid my head in my hand. "Not really."
"Excuse me Missy. Elbows don't belong on tables." Cat corrected me, I loved her. My real mom died when i was 11 and Dad met Cat several years later when we visited Ireland. Afterward she and Dad got married, she moved to Texas and she watched these old outdated etiquette videos she got from the library to learn how to "Be American."
She was good for Dad, and him for her. They made each other happy.
"Sorry Cat." I said blushing slightly.
She smiled at me and then put some more vegetables on my plate, i didn't even bother protesting.
"Well Kitten should we give her, her present now or should we wait until after dinner?" Dad asked.
Cat smiled from ear to ear and looked at me lovingly. Cat couldn't have kids and loved me despite the fact that i wasn't her blood daughter.
"I think now should be good." She said winking at me.
I sat wide eyed looking at my parents with a smile plastered on my face.
"Ok, whatever it is, i'm ready." I said jumping up and down anxiously in my seat.
"Alright then." Dad said wiping his mouth and standing up, he held out his hand to Cat and helped her up from her seat. She daintily wiped at the corners of her mouth and stood, i followed her actions and followed them toward the front door.
Cat stopped "Steven Dear, your Coat."
Dad grumbled but put on his coat, i grabbed a light hoodie and followed Dad out of the house. Before I could step out of the house fully my eyes were covered by warm little soft hands.
I chuckled at the thought of Cat covering my eyes. Cat was about a whole head shorter than me and I prayed to God that she didn't let me fall.
We walked a few paces before we stopped. Then Cat removed her hands.
There before me, was parked a beautiful White SUV with a huge Red bow on it.
I screamed a high pitched scream and hugged Cat jumping up and down with her in my arms.
"Thank you, thank you, thank you." I said showering my parents with hugs and kisses.
My eyes started to mist at the gorgeous gift.
"Well Kiddo, we promised you a car for your Senior year, i'm sorry it isn't a convertible or anything but this is safe and practical for your new home." Dad insisted.
"Are you kidding me Dad, I love it. !"
"This must have cost you guys a fortune though...I don't think i can accept it." I said suddenly feeling very aware.
"Nonsense." Dad protested. "This is yours, bought and paid for. You're a good girl and you NEED a car, so here you go. I just ask that you keep your grades at least at a 'B' and don't get into any trouble at school. The minute your grades drop the keys come to me and Kitten will drive you to school and back."
I nodded my understanding. Then took the keys and sat in the drivers seat, adjusting my seat and mirrors to fit me.
"You can take her for a spin if you'd like, be back by 9." Dad sounded as he began walking back toward the house.
My smile slowly faded from my face.
"Where would I go? It's not like I have any friends or anything." I admitted rather pathetically.
Cat walked up to the car. "Can you go to the store for me Honey, I want to bake something and haven't a thing to bake. Anything will do just make sure you get all the supplies i will need."
I gave her a thankful smile and then went back into the house to put on a decent outfit and grab my purse.
Luckily I remember how to get into town and easily find a 24 hour market. I pull into their small parking lot and walk in. The Cashier greeted me in a bored fashion, I pick up a hand basket and set off to find something for Cat to bake.
I go and grab the essentials first, Eggs & Milk, then i find some brownie mix.
I start reading the back of the box while walking, I see that I need oil so I decide to go find some oil. Still reading the box I walk into someone.
My face flames up and i'm sure it gets even redder than my hair.
"Oh My Gosh, I am SO sorry. I'm such a klutz!...I should have been watching where I was going. Im sorry, i hope you're alright." I rush out, extremely embarrassed.
I watch as the tall slender girl smiles.
She's gorgeous, her skin is flawless but pale, and her hair, so long and straight and just as pale-ish with a hint of blonde.
I found myself staring, but I couldn't help it, she was just..TOO pretty!
She giggled before speaking "It's ok, calm down." She smiles and holds out her hand. "I'm Katrina, but please, call me Kate."
I smile and shake her hand. "Elle and again, i'm really sorry about that."
She shakes her head and waves her hand dismissively. "Don't worry about it. So you're new here, you must be a part of that family who moved into the Two story down off of 71 right?"
I nodded, "Yeah, It's just me, my Dad and Step-Mom."
"Cool, SO where are you moving from?"
"Texas." I said with a smile.
Normally I would find bumping into a complete stranger and then holding a conversation with them kind of random and odd...but this was literally the first interaction I've had with an actual Alaskan since moving here.
"I thought somewhere in the south," She continued cheerfully. "You have an amazing accent, I have a cousin from Texas as well."
"Really, that's awesome...what's his name?" I ask excitedly.
"Jasper, but to be honest he hasn't lived in Texas for some time now."
"Oh...um, well I guess I should let you get back to shopping." I suggested actually feeling a little unenthusiastic about cutting the conversation short.
"Oh you're fine, i just got bored at home and this is one of the only places that stays open late. So i'm the weirdo that's walking around a store to kill time."
I laughed along side her, "I don't blame you, I was beginning to wonder what there is to do around here."
She nodded and thought to herself. "Well my sister Tanya and I usually go up to Anchorage or one of the other bigger cities and go on a weekend shopping trip. My Boyfriend Garrett and I take in a movie sometimes, but usually we just go hunting." She said with a dark smile.
I didn't put too much thought into it, being from Texas, hunting isn't exactly uncommon.
"That's cool."
"So what grade are you in?" Kate asked.
"I'm a Senior this year." I admitted as I reaching for the oil.
"Nice, so am I. Maybe we will have some classes together."
"I hope so, it sure would be nice to know at least one person in school." I sounded. "And what about your boyfriend, what grade's he in?" I asked.
A look of panic flashed over her eyes before it went away and she composed herself. "He doesn't go to school."
"Ooh, Dating an older Man." I said playfully.
She chuckled "You have no idea."
We talked for a bit more and then we exchanged telephone numbers and said goodbye, promising to meet up in the parking lot come morning. I watched as she got into a black SUV. After I looked down at my cell and saw it was already 8:30, i knew I had to go home.
