Newbies at Night

Percy Jackson sat up, sensing that something was a bit off. He glanced at the clock. 1:45 am. It was well past curfew, but Percy got up and went down to the lake. After saving all of Olympus multiple times, the demigod figured he could handle a few harpies.

He sat down and stared at the lake. There was usually something calming about the dark water rhythmically splashing on the sand. But not now. In fact, being around the lake made him more anxious and he didn't even know why. Just as he was going to turn to leave, Percy caught a glimpse of white on the water. Narrowing his sea green eyes, Percy gestured to the lake as though calling it over. A large wave crashed onto the beach, and the demigod gasped. Unmoving on the sand, were three boys.

All of them were wearing ripped togas and looked starved. Only listening to their heartbeats convinced Percy they were alive. The blonde one was facedown so Percy turned him over. He then ran to the Apollo cabin for help, ignoring the harpies that finally noticed him.

"Will! Will, wake up!" Percy yelled at the sleeping demigod.

"Huh? Will grumbled. "It's like, not even two o'clock in the morning. What could possibly be wrong?"

"I found some people down at the lake. Unconscious." Percy stared. "For a son of Apollo, you move like molasses in the morning. Hurry up!" Percy dragged Will, barefoot and still half asleep, to the beach.

"I am molasses

It's one fifty in the morn-

For the love of Styx!"

"Seriously, Will?! It is way too early for poetry!"

"No! It just happened to be five syllables. For the love of Styx what happened?!"

They had arrived at the beach, and it was as Percy had said: three boys, lying unconscious in the sand. Will ran to the nearest one and grabbed his wrist. "Did you check their pulse?"

"Uh..."

"Wow, Percy. Sees someone not breathing. Doesn't care to know if they're already dead." Will cursed loudly. Percy looked at him. "There's water in their lungs."

"I can get the water out. I'm the-"

"Everyone the planet knows you're the freaking son of Poseidon! And if you do that you might kill them!"

"How?"

"Okay," Will said through gritted teeth. "In a way, you'd be forcing them to throw up. Kind of. And you can't breathe and puke at the same time. See how that's problematic? Good. Now wake up my cabin and tell them there's an emergency."

"Do not listen to that." Said a voice that wasn't Will. "Percy Jackson, go to bed. Will, let's go be cool." The god turned to Percy, narrowing his eyes and tucking a blonde strand behind his ear. "And one more thing, Percy: it is never too early for poetry. Now off to bed with you." Apollo waved a dismissive hand at the boy. Realizing how tired he actually was and happy to leave the Sun god, Percy left.

"So, Will." Apollo said, turning to the three laying on the ground. He casually slammed his fist into the boy's chest. "How's Nico doing?"

"We're not going to talk about him. And why in Hades are you punching him?!" Will asked, alarmed.

"You do CPR your way, and I do CPR my way. My way is awesomer," Apollo looked over at Will's patient. "because, unlike yours, it actually works." He smiled at the now conscious boy who, in response, threw up water. "Alright, Willyboy. Time's up." The god punched the other boys, with the same result.

"Don't ever call me that again. My name is Will, in case you forgot with your 500 other kids."

Apollo frowned. "For your information, William James Solace, son of me, I have over 17 thousand children, although most of them are dead."

Will was silent, listening to the boys cough. "You're welcome." Apollo said to the boys, annoyed. "I just saved your lives and I don't even get a thank you? Wow. But anyway, I think you can take care of them now. See you in-" The Sun god glanced at his watch, which Will noticed was counting down to something. "roughly three and a half hours." In a flash of light, the god vanished.

"Three and a half hours until what?" The blonde boy asked.

"Sunrise. Are you my bro- half-brother?" Will asked out of curiosity. Apollo hadn't mentioned it, but maybe he forgot.

"What in Hades are you-"

"That guy that just disappeared. Is he your father?"

"No." he said as if that was the craziest thing he had ever heard.

"Where are we?"

"Camp Half-Blood. But let's start over. My name's Will." He extended a hand to the dark-haired boy, but he pushed it back down. Will noticed he had gray eyes, though not as gray as Annabeth. Maybe he was a son of Athena.

They stared at each other long enough for awkwardness to set in and the blonde interjected. "This is Epsilon, my older brother. He's monolingual, in Greek."

"Oh." Will greeted Epsilon in Greek then turned to the youngest one. Before Will could say anything, he waved excitedly. "Hi! "Sigma," he pointed to himself and then to the blonde. "Omicron. Hungry and tired."

Omicron looked from Sigma to Will. "As you can tell Sigma here knows broken English, but we're all fluent in Greek."

In a gesture of sympathy to Sigma, Will said in English, "I know broken Greek. But anyway, we have food and beds. You can stay in my cabin until you get claimed. Normally, you'd go in Hermes' cabin but I'll make any exception for medical reasons. Cmon, its 4 o'clock and I'm sure we're all tired."

Will led them to Cabin 7 and gave them each a few crackers, promising a full breakfast in the morning. Though they accepted the food, Epsilon, Omicron, and Sigma opted to sleep outside because the cabin was too bright. With some reluctance, Will finally agreed.
