Chapter 15: Escape Scenario "I Know"
Hi guys! I know I haven't update for a while. And I'm really sorry. I just have alot on outside of wattpad (yeah right, like I have a life!)
Anyways, for the dedication, this week it goes to *drum roll* Think_Inspiration for her comment "What about Martha?? Doesn't she deserve a nice juicy rat? She's not rude unlike somebody *glares at George
Anyways, AWESOME PLAN WISE GIRL! (Wise girl = you)
Bianca...angel's slip must've triggers some thoughts and confirmed some suspicions. So if the demigods in jail have a plan AND the campers and other chaos soldiers have a plan to break out, there should be some kind of mess up in both their plans when they run across each other but they, together, fight their way out. Some kind of twist
ANYWAY, I LOVED this chapter! You are super duper awesome. As in, awesomer than Leo or Epsilon. PLEASE UPDATE SOON SO I DON'T HAVE TO REREAD THIS BOOK A ZILLION TIMES TILL U POST CHAPTER 15!! I mean, I L-O-V-E LOVE this book and if you don't update, I will be very very sad. As in, as sad as percy when Bianca died. Or when Nico found out Bianca died. As in, REALLY REALLY DEPRESSED
PLEASE!! *mentally cries
(BTW: I ship all the couples in the books because they all make perfect sense and have some kind of special story behind it. Plus, I don't care who Nico or Luke would be paired with, as long as it makes sense)
PLEASE UPDATE
You. Must. Update. The universe. It depends on it. *tries to keep a straight face and then bursts into laughter
But really! UPDATEEEEEEEEE!!!!!"
... Wow! That comment was really something. Thanks so much Think_Inspiration!
Onwards, my friends, with chapter 15! Its ... interesting ...
Chapter 15: Escape Scenario "I Know" - Percy's POV
Yeah, add to the list of superpowers Destruction forgot to take away; super human hearing.
Funny how they thought that lowering their voices would stop me from hearing their plans. Of course I heard them.
And I didn't have the slightest intention of letting them succeed.
If they went through with that plan, we would never survive. Well, not all of us, anyway. There would be casualties.
And I intended to be that casualty.
I would never - could never - forgive myself if any of them died and I lived. I couldn't bear it when Travis, Clarisse and Leo died in the Giant War, and I couldn't bear it if any of the others died now. But how to get everyone out without my plans being revealed.
Beside me, Annabeth shifted in her sleep.
It's been long since the other finally lay down. I knew that they knew I wasn't asleep. As I said before, super human hearing. Minor detail that Destruction forgot. Along with putting people to sleep and a few other useless powers like extraordinary sight. Super helpful.
When Annabeth first lay beside me, I wasn't sure what to do. I just rolled over.
And then I realized that I was facing her.
Not that that was bad, or anything. Just ... weird. When she whispered, 'Sleep,' I could feel the warmth flow off her. It was calming. I almost wanted to go to sleep, but the anticipation of what it brought held me back.
As well as warmth, I could feel something else radiating off Annabeth; uncertainty.
I had heard her shift when she first lay down, like she wanted to move closer, but held back. I was glad she did. Things were strange enough, what with her looking for me, without realizing I was right beside her. Plus, I knew they were already suspicious of me.
Thanks a lot, Bianca!
I returned to thinking about how to trick the others into escaping. There was no way everyone could get out. Someone would be caught; someone would have to stay.
I wanted to be the one to stay behind. They had also done the same for me at some point; Bianca sacrificed her life to defeat the giant Talos statue when it should have been me; Leo stayed behind and died closing the doors of death; Frank stayed back to fend off the tar monsters when we landed at the Great Salt Lake to repair the Argo II; Piper saved Jason and my life in the nymphaeum and in a Kansas cornfield; Annabeth had saved my life more times that I could count.
I sighed, shaking myself out of my delirium.
I had to think of a plan. I lay there for a good hour and a half before I finally came up with one that should work.
Yes, me. The great Seaweed Brain himself, came up with a plan. So what? I've changed (mostly).
It was the best plan I could manage. Annabeth was right; I needed my strength. I could barely stand, not that I tried. I didn't want the others using that to discourage me from doing anything.
My plan was ... to go along with their plan. Brilliant, eh?
Um, maybe I didn't explain right. My plan was to go along with them, pretend I knew nothing. And then, when I had the chance, get them all out while I covered them. It was the only thing that could work. Annabeth's plan was great and all, but she didn't say what would happen once we got out of the cell.
That's where my plan came into the picture.
Now, don't get me wrong, I'm not suicidal (which is pretty much what my plan is). But even after all these years, my fatal flaw was still personal loyalty. I would not rest until I got all my friends out of here, or I died.
My only worry was that the latter would happen first.
When the others woke up the next morning. I parented like I'd had a good nights sleep, though they saw right through that. But I also pretended like I knew nothing of their plans of escape, which I am pleased to say, worked a lot better.
Though I felt like a liar and a cheat, I knew that it was their only chance of survival.
Bianca and Frank came and sat beside me.
So this was how they were going to get me out, I thought, by casually sitting beside me.
'Hey,' Bianca said, passing me a bit of yesterday's bread, which I pretended to take a bite out of before handing it back to her.
She frowned, then sighed.
'You have to eat, Epsilon,' Frank told me, 'You of all of us need it.'
'I'll eat when they deliver a new round of food,' I said, knowing full well that that wouldn't happen, 'It shouldn't be too long.'
Frank and Bianca exchanged a look; I'd trapped them. They couldn't get me to eat witout acknowledging their plans, and they couldn't tell me their plans because they thought I would stop them.
I'll do better than that.
'Are you sure you don't want some more?' Bianca asked slowly, 'We can always have some later.'
I cracked a smile, 'So now you're trying to steal the fresh bread?'
Frank laughed, 'Well all know that the bread they give us is never fresh.'
Bianca and I joined him in laughter, though I was just humouring them.
'But seriously,' I said once we'd stopped laughing, 'Share it around. I had a bite.'
Bianca frowned, she knew I hadn't taken a bite. She opened her mouth to argue but-
Bam.
The cell door flew open. Only two shadows ever came to deliver us our food, they didn't think we'd try to escape after our first attempt went sour.
Annabeth, Piper and Leo stood up. Frank and Bianca moved in closer to me, ready to grab my arms and hoist me up.
Show time, I thought.
One shade floated in to place our bread and water on the floor, while the other stood guard at the entrance.
Piper suddenly doubled over like she'd been punched in the gut, 'Uh! I feel terrible. I think my rib busted!'
Flickering, the two shadows floated over to her, forgetting about the door. Frank and Bianca took their cue, hauling me, each grasping one of my arms tightly so I wouldn't collapse. They helped me to the door.
'Where are we going?' I whispered. I had to play along.
'Away!' Bianca replied quietly.
Once we reached the door, Frank looked over his shoulder and nodded at Annabeth who nodded to show she'd got the message.
Annabeth kicked one of the shadows over while Leo tossed water in the others face. I didn't see how Annabeth's sneaker or Leo's water should have made contact, but somehow they did, leaving the shades very startled.
'Run!' Annabeth yelled.
We all took off down the corridor. But, we didn't have the slightest idea of where we were suppose to go.
I stumbled. Bianca and Frank helped me back up and kept pulling me along.
As much as I wished it weren't true, they were right. I didn't really have the strength to walk on my own. But I needed to be able to if I had any chance of getting the others out safely. And how could I do that if Bianca and Frank were gripping my arms. There was only one thing for it.
I had to ditch them. Yeah, mean, I know.
'Let go!' I yelled, 'Don't worry, I can run on my own.'
They looked at me doubtfully, but I pulled my arms away. They reluctantly let go and I almost face planted. But I managed to stay standing.
We kept running down the endless corridors, swerving left and right and right and left.
The halls were all identical, meaning they were completely painted black. Light seemed to emit from the walls were there was no torches, so we could see. But otherwise, it was like running through a black hole (and trust me, I know what that's like!).
Alarms started blaring and we all groaned.
Great. That was exactly what we needed; reinforcements coming at us.
We soon came across our first group of warrior shadows. Three hollow shades dressed in armour that wasn't Greek or Roman, but something much, much older. They stepped forward as one, their swords and spears arrayed against us.
I shot a sideways glance at my friends, who gave me one back. This was going to be fun.
Annabeth and Frank kicked the two shadows on the sides and they stumbled back. I swept my leg under the one in the middle and it tumbled to the floor. Piper, Leo and Bianca ran forward to hold the shadows arms down while Annabeth, Frank and I grabbed their weapons.
Easy Peasy. Now we were armed.
We started off running again, but one of the shades clearly wasn't finished with us. It grabbed Leo around the ankle as he whisked past, and pulled hard.
Wit a cry of pain, Leo fell to the floor, grasping his ankle tightly.
I stomped on the shadows head and it dissipated into mist, the others pulling Leo away from the remaining shadows. Annabeth, Piper and I crouched beside him while Frank and Bianca stood guard.
'Broken ankle,' Annabeth murmured, 'It needs to be strapped, but we have nothing to do it with.'
'You have to keep going,' Leo said through gritted teeth, 'Leave me behind.'
'Not gonna happen, Fire Boy,' Piper had a look in her eyes that said, defy me, and it will be the last thing you ever do. I suddenly realized that she knew that Flames was Leo.
Piper pulled Leo's arm around her shoulders and hauled him up. Frank took his other side and we powered on.
We kept running and eventually found ourselves back in the dark throne room. It was empty, which scared me.
Where was Destruction?
'Where to now?' Piper whispered.
Annabeth shook her head, 'Keep searching?'
'There's not enough time,' I interrupted, 'We'd be caught by then.'
'Epsilon's right,' Bianca said, 'We have to find a way out, and fast! How do we figure out which way is the exit?'
'If Hazel were here,' Frank grumbled, 'She'd be able to tell.'
I silently agreed. Hazel was brilliant at finding her way through tunnels. She'd easily be able to maneuver them through the corridors.
But sadly, Hazel wasn't with them.
Annabeth growled, and stamped her foot in frustration.
Suddenly, the alarms stopped. We all looked at each other in surprise. What in Hades was going on?
Then we kinda figured it out.
Slow, mocking claps echoed through the throne room. We whipped around (Leo gave a small yelp) to find Destruction smiling coldly, a fiery look in his eyes that I'd learnt said, I'm going to make you suffer. Won't that be fun?
'Well done!' he said, like he was rewarding a pre-schooler and not taunting six kidnapped teenage demigods, ' I never expected you to make it this far. But no matter, no matter. You will not leave this room alive!'
'Yes we will!' I shouted, 'We will, because we work together. We will prevail!'
Destruction laughed like I was a puppy that had done something silly.
'We will, because we work together!' he mimicked, 'How cute! But futile.'
He snapped his fingers and shadow warriors appeared, lining the walls. My heart sank; my plan had failed.
Then, something sparked behind Destruction; a swirl of black that steadily grew larger.
A smile lit my face under my hood, because I recognized it. It was the portal that the Chaos warriors could create, the one that they always started out with. Kind of like the first step before being able to create one instantly with a wave of your hand, like I could.
I had to keep everyone's attention on us, so I brandished the sword I took from the shadow. I heard Annabeth give a gasp, and knew that she'd noticed the portal, too. I gave her a look out over my shoulder and she got the message; it's safe.
I had to get them all to the portal. The Chaos warriors would be on the others side, I was sure of it.
I started moving in a circle, Destruction following my movement. The two of us locked in the most dangerous, deadliest of dances.
Thank the gods, the others moved with me. They lurked behind me as I moved towards the portal. But Leo still had his broken ankle, which made them slow. Piper and Frank supported him, but they still weren't fast enough. Annabeth and Bianca held aloft the swords that we'd stolen, almost daring anyone to come close.
I knew that if Destruction faced the portal, he'd notice immediately. I needed to keep his attention me.
'We will win,' I told him, 'You can't stop us.'
'And why is that?' he said patronizingly, What possibly reason could your delirious mind come up with?'
'I'm not delirious,' I snarled.
'Aren't you?' his tone made me hesitate, 'Haven't you noticed the visions yet?'
My blood ran cold. The truth was, I had noticed. A few days ago, I saw my mother and step-father being killed by a hellhound. And ... um, actually, I didn't want to say the other things I'd seen.
Destruction noticed the look on my face.
'Thats right,' he sneered, 'A side effect of the lightning that I'm afraid is very useful in my case. Especially since I can control the visions.'
With the last word, he flicked his hand. Spots danced before my eyes and I saw things that seemed so real, yet couldn't be:
Luke and Clarisse being torn apart by a hoard of dracane.
Annabeth dying right before my eyes as Archane sank her fangs into her neck.
Piper and Jason falling under the pressure of three evil cyclopes.
Frank and Hazel being eaten by laistrygorian giants like potato chips.
Leo and Nico being set upon by a pack of skeletons that had turned.
And others, so many others, being destroyed by monsters. I couldn't bear all that killing, all those demigods falling. And the worst part? I got the feeling that it was all my fault.
I couldn't let that happen.
I sunk to my knees as the visions intensified.
'Stop!' I shrieked, 'Make it stop!'
I knew my friends were looking at me strange. They couldn't see what I could. They didn't know the horrors that swirled around them, tormenting me, turning me inside out.
Suddenly, the visions shut off. Destruction glared down at me, a wicked glint in his eyes. I could do nothing more than sit on the floor. I hugged myself, shivering from what I'd seen.
'What did you do?' Annabeth screamed. She ran over and gripped my shoulders, 'What did you do to him?'
Destruction only laughed.
'Epsilon,' Annabeth whispered, 'Please don't be insane.'
'The portal,' I breathed back, 'You have to get to it. The others are on the other side.'
She looked over at the swirl of black which was still only half formed, and she nodded. She moved to help me up but I shook her off.
'No,' I said, 'Get the others out. We can't all escape. I think you knew that from the beginning. Leave me and get the others out safely. I can cover you all, buy you enough time.'
'We're not leaving you behind,' she shook my shoulders as if trying to make me see sense. But my mind was made up. So I reverted back to my original plan; play along until they're all safe.
'Ok,' I nodded. She helped me up.
Destruction stopped laughing, but he still looked amused.
'What hope do you have of escaping?' he teased us, 'You are all trapped in my fortress with no way out.'
'We will get out,' I yelled. We began moving in a circle again, me leaning on Annabeth for support.
Meanwhile, the black hole just grew bigger and bigger. How thick was Destruction for not having noticed it yet?
'And how do you plan to do that?' he asked evilly.
We were standing right in font of the portal now. One more second ...
The was a bright flash and the dark swirl mass enlarged into an open black door.
'Like this,' I yelled, 'Now guys!'
One by one, they dove through the doorway; Frank, Leo, Piper, Bianca. Destruction roared in horrifying anger.
Then it was Annabeth's turn. She was about to leap through, when she realized I wasn't following.
I was racing across the room, swinging my sword, disintegrating shadows.
'Epsilon!' Annabeth screamed, 'Hurry!'
'Go!' I shouted, 'Get out!'
'Im not leaving you here to die!' I heard her call back.
So she stayed, ripping through thee shadows like they were paper. As much as I knew that we were so going to die, I was glad she was here.
Wait, she betrayed me.
We ended up in front of the portal again, battling a legion of shadows. We'd held them off so far, but there was only so long our luck would hold.
'Get through the portal,' I said through gritted teeth, 'Before it closes.'
Indeed, the door was starting to wane, flickering dangerously and fading out.
'No!'
'Yes!'
I grabbed her arm and pushed her at the door. I heard her cry out as she tumbled through the gateway. By she didn't say my name - my new name.
She closed her eyes and cried, 'Percy!'
Did she know? I had a feeling that it was more than that.
Annabeth fell through the door of darkness-
-and landed on the other side.
The door shrunk suddenly, growing smaller and smaller until it vanished with a pop!
'No,' I breathed.
I fell to the floor, completely drained.
Annabeth looked up at me, a few feet away. Her bedraggled blonde hair was drenched with sweat, clinging to her face. Her grey eyes that usually looked like a storm now looked more like mist.
The shadows parted to reveal Destruction. He swept up to us as the shadows grabbed the weapons that had fallen from our grasps.
'You other friends may have escaped,' Destruction jeered, 'But I still have you. And this one.'
I slowly looked over at Annabeth, and we shared at terrified glance. Destruction was right; she was still here. A terrible pain echoed through my heart.
I had failed. And now we were going to pay the price
Omg! I literally cried writing the last few bits. Its just sad *sniff*. Stupid Percy, with his stupid fatal floor. WHY DID HE DO THAT!!! ... Wait, this is my book ... I made him do that ...
Moving swiftly on! :D For the last two chapted, I asked a question. Last chapters question was 'What is your favourite ship?' This chaper, the question is; If you could be a new god/goddess, what would you be the god/goddess of? For example; I'd be the goddess of Friendship. What would you be a symbol of?
Final thing - as always - vote and comment because its awesome! Oh, and over 3500 reads?!?!?!?! You guys rock! Thanks so much.
Thank you all so much for supporting me and simply reading my book (as cheesy as that sounds). And remember, whenever you get frustrated, just think of Frank in a pair of Chinese handcuffs!
