"Alright!" The Doctor squealed as she leapt out of the TARDIS. "Here we are! Welcome to Radio 1's BIG WEEKEND!"

I jumped out of TARDIS, wearing my baby blue shorts and a short-sleeved flowery top, running towards the music and sheep-?

Pausing for a moment, I looked at my surroundings and saw nothing but fields and animals. No music, no DJs, no party-goers and no nothing.

"You mean 'big field', Doctor?" I say with the use of airquotes, straightening up and treading through the thick mud. "Definitely not Big Weekend. Definitely English countryside."

She sighed, tasting the air with her tongue. Raising a finger in the air, she smelt the wet grass and dusty wind. It was, as if, she was testing something.

"This isn't England?" She shook her head in dismay.

"So, where could we be?"

The Doctor turned to look at me in concern, her face melting into a frown. "I have no idea. But it's Earth!"

"Well that's reassuring!" Putting my hands on my hips and smiling sarcastically; I stepped across the bog towards her.

"But I have a scent of every country on Earth-"

"A scent?" I question in surprise.

"Yeah, I do! Keep up!"

The Doctor and I trekked on through the stink of cowpat and the mouldy haystacks.

No one seems to be around, I wonder whether anyone's here "Looks abandoned, Doctor."

"There are some life signs though; we've just got to find them." The Doctor checked her sonic screwdriver twice, tracking whoever was out there.

Whacking the screwdriver, I noticed her annoyance growing. "It's not working properly. It says there are people all around us, but all there is around us is sheep and cowpats."

Abruptly, the Doctor stopped in her tracks. She looked frightened

for a moment; or if she was going to be sick.

"I've found them."

My face breaks into a smile, knowing that there are other people here. "Great! Where are they?"

"We've been stepping in them."

I pause in bewilderment, suddenly realising the truth. There aren't any cows around here.

"You mean these are people?" I question in disgust.

"Were." She corrected me. "Past tense."

She reached inside her pockets, taking out two pairs of sunglasses and a leaflet for Chinese takeaway. Finally, she took out a pair of plastic gloves and a test tube.

"Since when did you carry those in your pocket?"

Glaring at me, she replied with "Ever since I was almost drowned as a witch."

I nodded "Right."

She knelt down at the remains of the people, picking some up and putting them inside the tube to examine. "Interesting." She said observing it closely, shaking it a little. "These people have been transformed into muddy substances, but how?"

Biting my lip, I think of a few ideas "Disintegration? Melting?"

"You're getting good at this." She grinned at me.

"Thank you-"

"HELP ME!" We turned our heads to see a young girl, in medieval clothes, run up to us. She leapt onto me for dear life "They're coming!"

"Who is?" I ask

"The creatures." She commented with a look of horror. "We have to get away from here or else we shall be taken too."

"Taken? Taken where?" The Doctor stood up in glee. "I love a field trip!"

"It won't take us away; it'll take our lives!" Turning back to the direction she came, the girl watched in fear as the fog rolled in closer. "My cottage isn't far from here. It will keep us safe."

"Cottage, Doctor?"

She scanned the fog with her screwdriver simultaneously, while the girl looked at her in a perplexed state. "Is that a wand?" She asked.

"Nope! Something better." She suddenly looked as concern as we were and started to retreat. "How about we go to your place then?

Just like that, we took off running. Towards the only safe haven that exists right now.

We reached the girl's cottage in no time; she started grabbing pots full of ivy and mistletoe and throwing them onto the ground. "This will protect us from the creature." She said, scattering the remains. "I've learned its weakness and I know how to stand against it."

The Doctor scanned the house, checking everything over and over again. "Is there anyone else?" She asked.

"Just me."

"But how long has this been happening?" I question with a sense of concern.

Opening the door, she led us inside. "A few days-"

"A few days?"

"Yes." She commented.

Searching the house, she wondered why this happened to a small village. "Where exactly is this?"

The girl looked at her with surprise "Netherlands, why?"

"No reason." She licked the air once more, experimenting. "Doesn't taste like it though."

"Well, introductions." She plastered a smile "I'm Mila."

"The Doctor and this is Alice." She pointed towards me as I did a little gesture in return.

"Would you like some clothes?" I stared at her in return because we were wearing our clothes. "You're wearing undergarments."

"Oh!" I said in realisation. "Yeah, no thanks."

"What do the creatures look like, Mila?" The Doctor queried her; Mila's face drooped into fright.

"Fog." She answered, replying to her. "They are the mist, they fill people til they are dead."

"Possess." She jumped up in down in excitement. "The Quarry! They look for forms to take because of their allergies or else they are part of the atmosphere. It doesn't taste like the Netherlands because this is a frozen point in time."

"That was a mouthful." I implied.

"I'll be back!" She shouted, running out the door. Mila and I stood in the cottage, in silence, waiting for her to come back.

An hour later...

"Is she coming back?" Mila asked.

"She won't leave me." I mentioned. "I know she won't."

Unexpectedly, two loud knocks were heard. We stood up in panic. Then the door was thrown open as we stood back in fear.

"Doctor?"

"Doctor?" She stood there in silence; her eyes as black as the night. Whatever this was, it wasn't the Doctor.

"I have become MANIFEST!" It screamed in a husky voice.

"Who are you?"

"Satan's demons have possessed her!" Mila screamed in fear.

"We are not demons! We are The Quarry! We walk as ONE!"

I grabbed a walking stick from the ground holding it up in front of her. "LET HER GO!" I commanded.

"Never! The Quarry survives inside her!"

I think for a moment, knowing there must be a reason why it took her. "She's different from us. That's why you took her form!"

Smiling widely, I circle her, hoping my idea will work. "You are nothing like the Doctor!" I shout, taunting it. "She is braver, stronger and has two hearts that can't fit you in."

Coming closer, I snatch her arm as she tries to resist. "More importantly, she can do this!." Pulling her arm up; her hand formed into a single pinky and she stuck it into her throat.

"Ahh! Much better!" The Doctor said as her eyes returned to her normal colour. "Haven't got time. Give me the ivy!"

"What?"

"The ivy now!" I handed it to her and she swallowed it whole; causing her to convulse in pain. I stepped back in fear, holding Mila close. We watched as fog crept out of her mouth, screaming in agony. The Doctor dropped to the floor as the fog faded into nothing.

Afterwards, the Doctor recovered and unlocked time so Mila could find somewhere to live.

Before we left, the Doctor had one more thing to day to me. "Thanks for saving me."

"Anytime." I say with a smile protruding on my face. Unlocking the TARDIS door and strode in the console room in pride.

Today I saved the Doctor, like she saves me and everyone else in this massive universe.
