Chapter 33 : Frustration
Author's P.O.V.
"Can you please come over, Lucas ?"
"I am sorry, Darling, I have a project. Actually that is a group project otherwise I would have come to you and done it beside you. And it's due date is tomorrow. I am so sorry, Olivia."
Olivia sighs, "No problem, Lucas. Do it nicely."
"Thank you so much, Olivia. And take care, Love you too, byee." He hangs up.
She slightly smile and kept her phone beside.
She sighs.
It's been a week, she came home from the hospital, and she's still struggling to find any sense of normalcy.
Her bedroom, once filled with energy and light, now feels like a shadowy cage. The cheerful posters on her walls don't seem to fit anymore; they belong to someone else. Her photos holding the trophies, kissing the medals, hugging her parents, everything belongs to someone else. Someone who could walk, who could get up and leave whenever they wanted. But that's not Olivia, not anymore.
That Olivia was bold girl. Not this weakling. She was a pride for her parents, not like this burden.
She's sitting on her bed, staring at the spot where her shoes used to be. It feels like an eternity since she last put them on, since she last felt the ground beneath her feet.
The wheelchair beside her bed is a constant reminder of what she's lost, and she can't bring herself to look at it. It feels like a betrayal, like admitting defeat.
The house is quiet.
She don't know where are everyone. She didn't come out from her room whole week.
Her parents who often came in her room, are rarely coming there. Olivia doesn't blame them. She knows she's been difficult, refusing to talk, ignoring their attempts to cheer her up. But it's hard to find joy in anything when the future seems so bleak.
Olivia feels the pressure building in her chest, a familiar weight that's been growing since the accident.
She's scared.
Scared of what the future holds.
Scared of being a burden, a disappointment to her parents.
They never say it, but she can see it in their eyes—the worry, the uncertainty. They're trying to be strong for her, but she knows it's tearing them apart.
She imagines all the things she'll miss out on—school dances, college, traveling, finding a career she loves. It's like a slideshow of dreams slipping away, one after another. Each one hurts more than the last. And then there are the practical worries:
How will she get around ?
Will her friends still want to hang out with her ?
Will she even deserves to live ?
Hot tears begin to spill from her eyes, sliding down her cheeks and pooling on her lap. Olivia doesn't bother to wipe them away.
What's the point ?
She's been crying so much lately that it feels like it's become a part of her, like she'll never run dry. There was not a single day passed, when she didn't cry.
The tears are warm, but they offer no comfort. They're just a reminder of the pain that's always there, just below the surface.
Olivia worries about everything now.
What if she never learns to live with this ?
What if she's alone forever ?
The thoughts swirl in her mind, relentless and overwhelming, each one a new source of fear. She wishes she could turn them off, just for a moment, to find some peace, but they won't stop.
She's angry, too—angry at the universe, at the car that hit her, at the doctors for not being able to fix her. But mostly, she's angry at herself for feeling so weak, for not being able to handle this better. She knows she should be grateful to be alive, but it's hard to find gratitude when everything she wanted seems so far out of reach.
"Olivia"
She immediately wipes her face and looks at the door blankly.
Hazel stands there with a bowl of fruits.
She comes inside and settled beside the girl.
"Go from here, Hazel. Leave me alone." She whispers.
Hazel sighs, "I will. But first eat this, you have to take medicines too-"
"I have nurse for that. You don't have to do all these things." Olivia spats rudely.
"Your nurse went to her home as some kind of emergency came of." Hazel says, giving fruits to Olivia.
"Then, I can wait for her. Thanks for the fruits. You can leave." Olivia looks down, scrolling through her phone. Pretending to scroll through her phone.
Hazel sighs and says, "Olivia, I know it's very hard for you. But, trust us, everything will be fine. Will promised you, right ? That you'll be fine, hmm ? And you out of all people knows very well that Will never breaks his promises-"
"No Hazel. Promises are meant to be broken. No one can keep their promises. Not even your Will." Olivia replies coldly.
Hazel frown but didn't comment on it.
"I don't know what you are trying to say, Olivia, but I know what you are feeling, Olivia and get this clear in your head, we love you. We all love you. You are the only daughter and a princess of Mom and Dad and your brothers. How can you even think that you are a burden on us ?-"
"Hazel, all these things are very good in theory only, not in practical life. And please stop with these sweet talks and leave me alone on my condition."
Olivia turns her head another side.
"Ok, calm down, I am leaving but remember one thing, Your legs does not make you strong, it is your self that makes you strong. Where there's a will, there's a way. Don't lose hope on yourself, Olivia. Remember, You were that girl, who scolds me on our first meeting just because, I scold your dear brother. I always saw you the strongest girl. Don't let me down this time too. You can't just loose hope just like that. Trust yourself, baby and everything will be fine."
Hazel pats her head and left the room.
While, Olivia losts in Hazel's words.
Where there's a will, there's a way.
I always saw you the strongest girl.
Don't let me down this time too.
Her words keeps ringing in her mind.
Meanwhile, Hazel frown hearing the sounds coming from the living room.
She comes downstairs only to see William, Ethan, Sophia and Jack are standing there with sadness on their face and their Mom and Dad with frustrated look on their face.
"What are you saying, Dad" William asks him.
"I am saying truth, William. Dr. Malik said that it's not in their hand. The effect of accident is so terrible that all the tissues inside her legs are damaged. And, now it's not in their hands to treat them."
"Then we can go to another specialist, Dad, we can't just lose our hope just because someone said something like that-" Before Jack could complete, Ethan interrupts.
"Jack, he is not someone. Dr.Malik is one of the best Neurologist of Dubai." Ethan states.
"Still, Ethan, There are other doctors in the world who perform even bigger miracles. We will go to them." Sophia says.
"Reports are already send to all the Best doctors and neurologists in the world. Half of them replies the same thing, Sophia." Ethan replies.
"Still half of them are remaining, Ethan. Let them answer." William says in a cold tone.
"I am tired, now. What was she even doing at that time out of the fucking house ?" Dad groans, sitting on the couch.
"That doesn't matter now, Dad. What matters now is to get a help from the best Doctor." Jack replies.
"Yes Andrew, we have to do something. She just can't sit her whole life just like that. She have to walk and take her responsibilities." Mom says.
Before Andrew could reply, William says, "Mom, she is still kid. What responsibilities you are talking about ?"
"Don't act like you don't know William. She has many things to do. Do you know, in a month, she has a dance competition and in two months, her team will play basketball in district level and what about her school and studies. She can't just sit in her bedroom doing nothing but crying. She has her future ahead of her."
"Mom, from when you care about dance and game ?" Jack mumble and rolls his eyes.
"Mom, I know you are tensed but what are you saying is completely ridiculous. It's clear instructions from Doctor that she needs a bed rest of atleast two months and here you are thinking about Dance and Basketball ?" William asks in disbelief.
"Please William, she is my daughter. Of course I will think about that. Afterall it's the question of her career. Do you even realise that what will happened if she can't walk again ? Who will going to marry her ? I know, Lucas loves her but what about his parents. Afterall no one wants a disabled daughter in law-"
"MOM" Before she could say further, three of them shouts together.
"What are you even saying, Mom ? Olivia is NOT a disabled. Stop fucking calling her that. She will walk again and I will make sure of it." William seeths in anger and left the house.
"I can't believe you are saying something like this for your own daughter, Mom." Ethan shakes his head in disappointment and left to his room.
"Mom, my respect towards you is decreasing day by day. Mind it, before it will vanishes." Jack warns and left from there.
Sophia shakes her head and left from there with Hazel.
Amelia turns towards Andrew.
"Honey, they all are gone mad. They all are only thinking from their hearts. They are not thinking from their minds. Honey, please try to understand what I am saying-"
"I know darling what you are trying to say, don't worry, do one thing. One of my friend said that it's all in mind, if you want to get up, no one can stop you. It's all about Will power. Make Olivia stand on her own. If she denies, scolds her, yell her or do whatever you want, just try to make her stand, hmm ?"
Andrew suggests to which Amelia nods her head.
