"Already going home? Aah I see, it's almost 12. Your inner Cinderella kicking in or something?" Sehra heard someone behind her as she descended the stairs, her eyes heavy lidded and her face flushed pink.
"Oye, what happened?" Abhishek came running next to Sehra holding her shoulders just as she was about to stumble.
"Nothing? uhmmm, I feel super weird," Sehra shook her head. "I've never been so sleepy before. I don't know what the fuck is wrong with me."
"What the fuck did you even drink?" He asked, coming closer to her, sniffing her mouth. She scrunched her face before slapping him lightly on his right cheek, pushing his face away from him.
"Haath kaise lagaya tune mujhe?" Abhishek scowled, but the girl in front of him payed no heed.
"Aise." She chuckled, before repeated what she did. Abhishek rolled his eyes, trying his best not to chuckle. He sucked in a deep breath before looking down at the drunk girl again.
"Sehra, my love, please tell me. What did you drink?" He asked her once again, too gentle for her liking, unlike the usual Abhishek who always needed an excuse to argue with her.
"What do you mean?" She questioned, her eyes half shut, ignoring her disarray as to what was making him so sweet.
"I just asked you what you drank?" The boy repeated himself trying to not get louder.
"I don't know," The Verma girl shrugged.
"Abhay, I guess I'll have to leave early. I'm not feeling good," she just lowered her head and pouted.
"Who gave you drinks?" he asked out of nowhere, a stern expression, which she rarely saw, grazed his lips.
"Nobody," Sehra just nervously chuckled.
"Forget it. I'm going."
"I'm not leaving you go alone. You're already pretty drunk," he followed the girl in black dress, holding her arm so that she doesn't go tumbling around, barging into others.
"Shut up. what d-do you mean i'm drunk? huh?" She turned towards him, her cheeks flushed a deep crimson, her lips which were painted red, jutted in a pout, drawing a soft chuckle from the boy, who caressed her cheeks, removing strands of her hair from her face.
Abhishek just chuckled and shook his head. "How do you expect me not to? You definitely drank. I can tell by just looking at your eyes," he moved his fingers infront of her eyes.
"Watch out," the brunette boy grabbed her arms as she stumbled for the second time. "I'll just get my car. you wait for me, okay?"
Tsk.... what happened to him?
Sehra just nodded and stood outside the venue, leaning against the wall. She couldn't process well of what the boy told her. She just cared not to. She completely forgot what Shubman has told her just a while ago.
After a few minutes of her waiting there, she noticed the brunette boy coming outside as he saw her, his infectious smile grazing his lips.
"Oye, are you already going?" The girl nodded.
"I just wanted to give you something," he said as he pulled a square sized box which had both necklaces he showed her earlier.
"This. Remember last time I showed you the necklaces? This is for you. When I saw the necklace, I thought of you," he scratched his neck a bit as he chuckled.
"Don't think too much," the older boy joked as she giggled.
"Thank you, Shubman," she just pressed a smile, her drunk self not allowing her to talk much.
They both heard the loud honk of a car, catching them off guard and making them pause their conversation.
"I'll get going now. Again thank you. And about that-" she pointed at Abhay's car.
"That weirdo just wanted to drop me to home."
"It's okay. Go home safely. Text me when you reach, alright?" she smiled again and waved to Shubman before she went inside the car, who waved back as affectionately.
"What was it? I felt like I was watching a live romance show," Abhishek scoffed. "Probably should have let you go home with him," he shook his head.
Oh , god. what's wrong with him?
Sehra just ignored him. On the way home, she felt her eyes shutting down as she let them, not having the energy to keep them open. He took a small glance at her and then stared ouside through the window.
Abhishek pulled the car to the side of the road as soon as they exited Ishan's apartment building, the hum of the engine fading into the quiet night. He glanced to his right, where Sehra sat in the passenger seat, fast asleep. Her head rested against the window, her lips—once painted red— were now back to their natural pink, a shade he secretly adored.
No matter how often he pretended to be annoyed with her, argued over the most ridiculous things, or feigned indifference, he couldn't deny the truth: Sehra was, without question, one of the most beautiful beings he had ever seen.
Her delicate eyelids were closed, her thick lashes casting soft shadows over her cheeks, which had turned a rosy red—the unmistakable aftermath of too much wine. Her ears were tinted the same hue, and her cheeks, slightly puffier than usual, had taken on a warmth that made her look even more endearing.
And those lips—oh, those lips. Soft, pink, and irresistibly inviting, they seemed to call to him, tempting him with the thought of leaning in, of giving in to the longing he tried so hard to suppress. But he wouldn't. He couldn't. Not when she wasn't fully herself, not when the glow on her cheeks was from alcohol and not from her usual spark.
He sighed softly, brushing a stray lock of hair from her face. For now, he'd settle for watching over her, content with the simple act of being close, even if she'd never know how much he cared.
He heard her softly mumble something.
"I hate him so much, oh god."
"Do you really hate me, Verma?" he bitterly chuckled. "I think I need to make things clear. I wanted to confess something to you and I also had the courage to. but guess what? you won't be listening to me now. Not like you ever did,"
He pulled a strand of hair out of her face and looked at her shortly. His lips suddenly formed into a soft smile as his eyes landed on her pouty lips.
"You're less annoying when you sleep."
