Harry had apparated home from a long day at work. He walked into the kitchen to find arms around his legs. Baby James was hugging him, with his forehead pressed against his knee. Ginny walked in smiling as she kissed him on the forehead.
"Dad! I blew up the toilet!" James squeaked. Oh dear Merlin, not again. James had been making things dysfunctional with magic from age two. First came the clock, which screamed 'POOPY TIME' when the clock ticked to 12 AM . Then came the new Telly that Harry had bought after convincing Ginny to let him buy it.
"What are you going to do with that muggle junk?" She used to say. Said the girl who now marathons 'Fairly Odd Parnets.'
"It's fun to watch them mess up magic. And I can relate to Cosmo when I'm drunk." They'd laugh it off.
"How'd you fix it this time?" Harry asked. James let go and was back to playing with his red truck that he'd gotten for Christmas.
"Called dad and asked for a spell, easy." Highs see was a moment of silence in which they both locked eyes in understanding.
"Dad! Come play with me!" James said, tugging in Hary's sock. Harry sat down and played with the blue truck next to the red one. He noticed James staring at the markings on Harry's hand, 'I must not tell lies.'
"Dad, what does that say?" Memories flooded through him.
"I must not tell lies." He said quietly.
"Then tell the truth! What does that say then?" James asked innocently.
"That's what it says, James. I must not tell lies."
"Oh. Is that from Lord Smoldywort too?" Ginny had entered the room with dinner.
"No. Not this one. This one...well this one has a more interesting story to it. How about we eat dinner and then I'll tell you the story for bed, okay?"
"Okay." And they ate their dinner.
*fast forward to later that night*
"Tell me about the story dad!"
"Well, when your mother and I were young-"
"Haha you just called mum old!" Harry couldn't help but chuckle.
"Anyway, when we were at Hogwarts, we had a very mean teacher named Doleres Umbridge."
"Haha that's a funny name."
"Well, she wasn't very funny. She was very mean and thought I was lying about Voldemort. And she wanted for me to remember that I must not lie about what's not real. But she didn't realize that she was lying herself. So lesson of the day James, sometimes grown ups can be wrong."
"So is mum wrong when she says I can't have ice-cream at night?"
"James!"
