9 | SAGE FIGURES IT OUT

ARRIVING at the Wickery Bridge, Margo put on her hoodie that was in her hand because it was cold. Rebekah sped them to the bridge and she didn't have time to put it on. She took out the flashlight and the matches to burn the wood out of her hoodie's pocket. She put on the flashlight to navigate her way. Sage and Rebekah didn't need it because they could see in the dark with their vampire eyes. The blonde kept a close eye on the human and made sure that Sage was a safe distance away from her brother's mate. She knew that Kol would be furious if he found out that Margo was just in Sage's company.

Sage had been wondering about why the Originals would care about the small human girl so much and she could only come up with one explanation. "She's Kol's mate, isn't she?" The red head asked Rebekah as she placed another piece of wood onto the pile they were making.

The Original tensed before sighing heavily, "Yes." She admitted. "How did you know?"

"I didn't know. But I've heard that Kol was daggered and only woken up not to long about. And taking into account the fact that for a thousand years he didn't care about anything or anyone except for his family and if you already know about soulmates, it doesn't take a genius to figure out that their mates." She explained and Rebekah sighed in worry. "But if you don't know about mates, you won't figure it out."

The blonde let out a huge sigh of relief as she cast a glance to Margo - who was sitting cross legged on the floor and she grinned. This kind hearted, down to earth girl was just what her brother needed.

It wasn't long after before the two was done making the pile and called Margo to bring the lighter. The human watched the huge bonfire fire with fascination and a smile on her face. That smile got wider as she realized that the threat to Kol and the rest of the Original family was gone.

But unfortunately that smile didn't last long when she saw Damon's care approaching them.

Damon sees Rebekah and Margo standing in front of a bonfire of the wood from the white oak tree. The young vampire stops the car and got out, slamming the door in frustration. Margo winced to herself. The Salvatore looked beyond furious.

"Your grand plans always seem to get ruined, don't they?" The Original asked, tilting her head with a smile. "Sorry to disappoint you. Again." She walked away and Margo followed her. The vampire glared at the human girl. She could have warned them, but she didn't. She chose her side and now she's fair game.

THE next morning, Margo was in a deep and peaceful sleep about her and Kol living happily ever after. So you could imagine her displeasure when she was awaken. "Seriously?" The girl complained with a groan, her voice thick with sleep. She had to open her eyes a few times before she could finally look at the intruder.

"Of course it's you." She deadpanned teasingly and the male frowned.

"That's not very nice." The Hybrid complained and Margo only rolled her eyes at him. She's been friends with him long enough for her to know when she has really offended her best friend or whether he is pulling her leg. Right now it's the latter.

"Well, you woke me up for no good reason." She retorted, slowly sitting up. Klaus sat down in front of her with a sheepish, yet, apologetic look.

"It's not for no reason." He said quickly and she raised an eyebrow at him before rubbing her eyes, trying to clear it off sleep. "Rebekah and I are going to Chicago to kidnap Finn." The dirty blonde informed his friend and she looked at him incredulously.

"And let me guess, you kidnapped Sage?" Margo asked, huffing at the end. It wasn't that hard to put together.

"Yes, I did." He stated, looking very proud of himself and puffing his chest out a little bit. "She deserves a little discomfort for what she said to you yesterday. The only reason her heart is still intact is because we need her to convince Finn to abort his suicide mission." He explained to her and the girl smiled fondly.

"Thank you." The human said sincerely. "I may not agree with what you are doing but thanks." She sighed and looked down at her fingers, fiddling with them. Klaus narrowed his eyes an looked at the girl with concern in his eyes - his best friend was always smiling and making jokes, not sighing and looking down.

"What's wrong, Shorty?" He asked softly, a complete opposite to his usual harsh, smug, arrogant and angry way of talking.

"I hate it when you call me that." The human told her immortal best friend.

"I know." He quipped with a smirk. "Stop trying to change the conversation. I'm not stupid, I can see that something is wrong. Tell me what it is and who I have to hurt." Klaus told her sternly.

"This is going to sound so stupid." Margo moaned, placing her hands over her face with her cheeks reddening a little bit. Klaus just gave her a blank look and she sighed again. "I..." She paused briefly. "I miss Kol." The words was quick and it was rushed and if it wasn't for the Hybrid's supernatural hearing, he wouldn't have caught it.

The human waited for his laughter to fill the room, but it never came. She took her hands off her face and saw him looking at her with a gentle smile and soft eyes. The weight on her chest immediately disappeared. Klaus knew what was wrong with her and suddenly it all clicked. He doesn't know why he didn't realize it before but it does now. It was the mate bond. Being apart for long will make them physically starting to hurt from missing each other.

"You like him a lot, huh?" He asked. There was no teasing in his voice, just understanding and care. Margo nodded.

"I do. And I got so used to him in the few days that we spend together. I didn't even realize how much until he left." She admitted to him quietly and Klaus looked at her with sympathy. He may not have had the privilege to find his other half yet, but he can see how much the two care about each other.

"Don't worry, Shorty, he'll be back soon." At his words, Margo lit up so brightly that the entire of Mystic Falls could have been lit up.

MARGO let her eyes roll to the back of her head as she watched her brother glare at the couple that is made up of Finn Mikaelson and his girlfriend, Sage. They had walked into the Grill just a few minutes ago and Matt still hadn't made his way to their table to get their orders. Luckily both halves of the twins had a shift and the girl made her way over to their table.

"Hey Finn." She greets cheerily and said man looked up at her with a warm smile. It was a natural instinct for the entire family to be protective of their brother's mate.

"Sage." She gave the woman a smile and Sage gave her a nod and the red head looked a little afraid. Afraid that the human girl will spill the beans about what she said and that Finn would be angry with her.

"Hello Margo," The eldest Mikaelson greeted. "You've met Sage?" He questioned, glancing between the two females.

"Yeah, we've met." The Donovan girl answered with a nod. "What can I get for you?" She questioned, effectively changing the subject. Sage shot her a grateful look and Margo smiled a bit wider, telling her that she understands.

"We'd like two shots of tequila, please." Sage smiled widely as she gave the order, relieved that she finally has her love back and that there will be no problems because of her words to Kol's little human mate.

"Coming up." Margo made her way back to the bar and saw Stefan sitting at the bar. She took them the shots and started wiping the counter, glancing at the Salvatore every so often who was staring at Sage and Finn. "What are you up to?" She asked with narrowed eyes, stopping in front of the former ripper and placed her hands on her hips as his gaze snapped to hers.

"Why would I tell a traitor?" Stefan spat at her and the girl took a step back in shock. Tears sprung to her eyes and took a deep breath and exhaled shakily, not wanting to cry in front of half the town. The Salvatore immediately felt guilty when he saw the tears in the human girl's eyes, but before he could say anything she started talking.

"It's funny, you know." Margo said softly, letting a humorless laugh escape her and the guilt deepened. "We both are doing the same thing. You're protecting your friends and you get a pat on the back. But the second I do the same, I'm a traitor. Just because my opinions differ form yours, I'm a traitor." She wiped under her eyes. "Maybe you should go look in the mirror before you start handing out judgement."

Stefan stared at Margo as she walked away and towards the bathroom. He felt guilty, but he wouldn't stop until Klaus is dead. He could deal with Margo hating him, but he can't deal with Klaus living. The Salvatore looked at Matt and signaled him over.

When Margo walked back to the bar, she saw the Stefan and her twin brother was gone. Along with Finn and Sage. The only thing that spelt out for her was trouble. She quickly told the other waitress that she was leaving before running out of the Grill. Margo looked around frantically, trying so she if she was just being paranoid or if she was right. The human was rooting for the former.

"No!" She heard Sage yell and she ran to the side of the building. At the top of the stairs she saw Stefan looking down and she ran to him. She gasped loudly when she saw her brother on top of Finn and a White Oak stake sticking out of his heart. Sorrow filled the blonde's eyes as he looked at his grief stuck twin sister before he went inside the Grill with Elena. Her eyes hardened with anger as she saw the girl and the she heard Stefan whooshing away.

"Finn, no." Sage cried out right before the eldest Original's body catches fire and Sage backs up to the wall and continues to sob. Margo ran down the stairs and embraces the red head in a tight hug, sobs raking through the vampire's body, making tears fill in Margo's eyes. She knows that the woman was rude to her, but she couldn't be mad. She couldn't hold a grudge, not when the woman just watched her love of almost a thousand years die.

Horror filled Margo when she realized that the Originals where linked and that all of them where dead. At that thought, the human broke down as well. Her best friend, Klaus, was dead. The though pained her, but what hit Margo the hardest, what broke her, was knowing that Kol is dead. Kol, the guy she fell for. Kol, the guy she never got to tell how she feels. The guy she would never see again. She didn't even realize the extent of her feelings for the Original until now. The human doesn't know how she fell for someone so fast when she's never fallen for someone before. It hurt her.

And so, the two woman - one a vampire and one a human - stood in a embrace while breaking down and comforting each other. Eventually, Sage pulled away and the two wiped their cheeks. They looked at each other with weak and pain filled smiles. For a while, they stood in silence.

"I'm so sorry, Sage. I know we don't exactly get along but you didn't deserve that." Margo eventually said to the vampire, her voice hoarse from crying.

"Thank you, Margo." The woman told her. "And you're right, we didn't exactly get of on the best foot, but if I can offer you some advice, get out of town. Klaus and Kol are dead, and with the Salvatore's still in town you will end up just like that to. So, do yourself a favor and get out. You are kind, honest, loving, caring, strong and you can use those things to make something of yourself. It's what Klaus and Kol would have wanted for you." Sage told her honestly.

"Why are you being nice to me? My twin brother killed your love." Margo said carefully and immediately felt bad when Sage flinched.

"Yeah, but you didn't help them. Stefan did. Elena did. But not you. And because even when I gave you no reason to, you were kind to me." The vampire explained and Margo gave her another weak and pain filled smile. "I'm serious, Margo. Get out of town and live your life. You're the only one of them worth a damn."

"What about you?" The human questioned.

"I'm going to kill Stefan. And when I'm done, I'm getting far away from here." Sage told the little human, hoping that she would not try and change her mind about killing the Salvatore. But all Margo responded with was with something completely unlike her and the vampire could barely believe her ears,

"Okay."
