WITH fingers intertwined, Lee Heeseung guided Seong Haewon to the dance floor, as she gave in and allowed herself to be pulled along - despite her initial reluctance.
"Again, aren't you tired? You just played a game. There's absolutely no way you're not tired right now." Haewon rambled quietly, a subtle attempt at getting him to back out.
Heeseung, recognizing such attempts, chuckled softly and shook his head. One of his hands dropped down, hovering respectfully over her waistline before finally settling it down on her frame, pulling her closer.
"I already told you, I'm fine." He cooed, tilting his head off to the side as he peered down at her. "You're just trying to get me to not dance. I see what you're doing here."
Haewon sighed, rolling her eyes slightly as she let out a quiet snicker, shaking her head lightly. "Sometimes, it gets annoying with how well you know me."
"I grew up with you. I can read you like a book." He bragged, to which he earned a small scoff in response.
"Yeah, yeah, whatever." The girl mumbled. Her eyes shifted to their hands, of which were intertwined together.
Then, to her arm of which fell awkwardly at her side, unsure of what to do with herself.
"Here," Heeseung spoke up quietly, noticing her hesitation within her body language. The hand that rested on her waist lifted, instead wrapping around her hand at her side as he guided it to his shoulder. "Like this, see?"
Haewon hummed, following slowly along as he guided her through the dance as best as he could, based on what he had learned many years ago.
"In all honesty, I'm quite embarrassed." The girl admitted sheepishly, her steps slow in comparison to his — which overall threw off the rhythm of the dance itself.
"You're doing fine, don't worry about it. And even if you mess up, who cares? It's not like anybody is watching you. Everyone is focused on themselves." Heeseung reassured, as she nodded hesitantly.
"I guess so." She muttered in a not so truthful agreement, lips tucked into a thin line as she attempted to follow along with his movements.
"Haewon, here, do you want to step on my feet? To get a hand of things. It'll help you memorize the steps better, and then you'll be able to do it on your own like muscle memory." He offered, tilting his head.
"No, no, I'm in heels. That'd hurt you." Haewon declined, nose scrunched up as he laughed and shook his head, his hand finding her waist yet again.
"I play soccer. I'm used to getting my feet stepped on constantly, and worse. It's not gonna hurt me, Hae." Heeseung pointed out with a string of soft giggles.
"Just trust me on this, okay? Just this once, that's all I'm asking for." He pleaded, doe eyes widened ever so slightly as he gazed into her set of brown eyes.
"Are you sure?" The girl asked, unsure if it was a truly good idea. Heeseung smiled, nodding his head.
"Positive. Come on." He confirmed, fingertips lightly drumming against her waist as he beckoned her on. Carefully, she stepped on the tips of his shoes, trying her best not to go any further as to not hurt him.
"You're good, don't worry." Heeseung uttered, as he didn't feel any pain — more so just the pressure from her added weight. But, nothing uncomfortable.
Once she finally settled, standing on his feet as he guided her steps with ease now, he gave her a small, reassuring smile and a light nod.
"See? Not bad at all. Just relax. I've got you." Heeseung hummed, as she nodded her head quietly.
"Thank you." The girl uttered out, a sigh of relief falling past her pink lips as he nodded in response.
"Mhm, of course. You don't even have to thank me. This is just a part of the learning process, right? Soon enough, you'll be turned into a dance machine." He joked, as she huffed out a laugh.
"Mm, oh, yeah, for sure." Haewon followed along, her voice laced with sarcasm.
After a small moment of shared silence, minus the small giggles spilling from both of them, Heeseung cleared his throat, speaking up once again and changing the topic.
"Right, I nearly forgot to say.." Heeseung began, tilting her head. "You look beautiful. Your dress is pretty. It suits you."
Haewon raised her brows, cheeks tinted pink as a shy smile took its place, setting across her features as her eyes remained awestruck on his.
"Awe, really? Thank you, Heeseung. That's really sweet." The girl drew out, her cheeks stained a soft pink hue.
"You look nice. You clean up well." She complimented, as he smiled brightly, waving it off.
"Oh, stop it." He joked, drawing out a soft sounding laugh from the back of her throat as her smile reached her eyes. To him, the prettiest sight — one he wished he could see forever.
"Seriously though, thank you." He added on shortly after, flashing a sweet smile.
As the song reached its climax, he tapped her waist, signaling her to stand back on the floor. Getting the signal, she stepped off of his feet, as he was quick to act.
He removed his hand from her waist, instead letting it hover over her body as he twirled her around, her skirt gently swaying as her body turned.
"Ohh, so pretty!" He cheered, eyes filled with pure adoration as she blushed and smiled, feeling almost overjoyed as whilst he went to dance a bit more, she came to a halt as she instead leaned forward, resting her forehead against his chest.
Heeseung chuckled, his hand snaking up to rest on the back of her head, fingers carefully threading through her hair.
As the song came to an end, almost everyone stayed out on the dance floor. Whereas Heeseung held her hand, pulling her along with him off to the side.
"Okay, okay, let's take a small break, hm?" He let out, guiding her back to their table where he helped her to her seat. "Was it fun?"
"It was, yeah. Though I wish I could have followed along with the dance a bit better." Haewon replied, her eyes following him as she watched him situate himself back into his own chair.
"You did great, though. And regardless, all that matters is we had fun." He reasoned, shrugging nonchalantly as she hummed in agreement.
"True." She muttered out, her eyes wandering around. Loads of people were still dancing, whereas only a few others stood off to the side — lost in endless conversations as the night carried on.
"I know I just got here and all." Heeseung spoke up, catching her attention as she turned her head to face him. "But do you want to leave already?"
Haewon raised her brows, a small laugh bubbling from the back of her throat. "What? Are you getting bored, too?"
"I'm bored of this atmosphere. It feels like it's wrong to have any kind of real fun. Like.. strict, you know?" Heeseung pieced together, tilting his head.
"I get it, no worries." Haewon nodded, understanding what he originally meant and intended to say to begin with.
"Well, what do you say?" He asked, as she huffed and rolled her eyes, pushing herself to stand up.
"What do you think?" Haewon asked, earning a smile from the boy who followed suit, his hand finding hers as he trailed behind her to the exit.

and what if i said i hated this chapter entirely 🤓
this feels so ??!?;'?$$?"2($+$(#3
by the way, just yesterday i realized just how close i am to the ending already. like, there's still a large number of chapters until the finale but the plotline itself will soon begin to close in on itself which is actually crazy to me
and i realized that i'm feeling eager to end this fic because the ending of the plot is so close and i've been so eager to write it out after months and months of planning it out
but at the same time, another part of me doesn't want to end this fanfic like ever because i love it so much. i genuinely don't think i'll be able to write another story and enjoy it as much as i enjoy writing for ephemeral
i've planned this whole entire story out — even small little details like what songs to use for chapters that i haven't even written yet — or just how to display someone's train of thought in an upcoming chapter
that's something i didn't do for my other stories because i could never really imagine and picture it in my head like i did for ephemeral one random day 😭
but yeah, in short, i'm excited that i'm getting closer to certain arcs and a point in the plotline. but i'm also sad because of that considering it will be marked as the end
anyway, no more rambling !! thank you all so much for reading 🫶
i know this chapter wasn't the best and it could have been longer, but still, i appreciate your support so much 😚
i love youuuu! take care of yourselves <3
