"you don't have to answer, just 'cause
they asked you."

“DID you really come all the way here just to give me medicine and water?” The girl asked, sitting on the floor beside her window as she watched the ongoing storm take place just outside.
“I mean, yeah. And to ask about that burn of yours. I noticed it last night, but you were too drunk to have a proper conversation with me.” Heeseung replied, standing at her desk as he zipped up his backpack, discarding it on the swivel chair at the desk.
Holding his books and pencil case, he carried it over to her before taking a seat on the floor next to her, setting his things out in front of them.
“But honestly, there was no point seeing as you're keeping the truth to yourself.” He added snarkily, as the girl scoffed and rolled her eyes.
“Are you seriously mad at me?” Haewon narrowed her eyes, brows curved inward as he shrugged, sighing quietly to himself.
“Not mad, just disappointed.” He mumbled, as the girl breathed out a soft laugh.
“You sound like my mother.” She mentioned, shaking her head.
The boy let out a soft laugh at her words, unable to contain it. “No, but, I mean I am a bit upset with you for not telling me the truth. It's obvious something happened.”
Heeseung expressed, as she opened her mouth to speak but was quickly cut off before she could get anything out. “But, I'll drop it. You obviously don't want to talk about it right now.”
Haewon closed her mouth, pressing her lips together as they curved into a small smile, releasing a deep breath. “Thank you.” She let out gratefully.
The boy only hummed in response, moving on from the topic as his gaze shifted upward, meeting her gaze. “So, tomorrow.” He began, trailing off momentarily as he organized his layout of books.
“Do you wanna come over? I know, obviously, it's Sunday. So your dad will be home.” Heeseung asked, raising a brow as Haewon pursed her lips.
“Yeah, I want to.” The girl chirped, nodding her head.
“But, truthfully, I think it's best that I stay here. At least this week. I can tell my mom is bothered by the fact that I always.. just disappear on Sundays. I think it definitely makes my dad mad.” The girl explained, rolling her eyes at the mention of her father.
“That’s fair.” Heeseung uttered, nodding in understanding as leaned back against the wall, his head pressed against the window — of which was exposed as her blinds were pulled up.
“Plus, by now, I think it's time I give your parents a break from me. I go over to your house so often, I'm surprised they haven't kicked me out.” She joked, as he smiled lightly and shook his head in disagreement.
“Oh please, they absolutely love having you over. They love you.” Heeseung informed honestly, a chuckle falling from his lip.
“Ugh, that's gonna make me emotional, I swear. Your parents are so sweet, it's so wholesome.” Haewon pouted subconsciously, placing a hand over her chest in awe.
“I got pretty lucky.” Heeseung chimed in, brushing his fingers through his hair.
“Very lucky.” The girl added, nose scrunching up slightly. “But, yeah, I won't be seeing you tomorrow, unless you come over. But, I don't think you'd wanna be here, honestly.”
“Hey, I mean.. if I can, I'd gladly come over.” Heeseung admitted, shrugging slightly.
“I don't see why you'd voluntarily put yourself in that situation.” Haewon raised her brows, a small laugh falling past her pink lips.
“I could say the same thing about you.”
“Hey! My situation is entirely different. These are my parents. You don't have to be here. But, they'll get upset with me in some way if I'm not, for the nth time in a row.” Haewon complained, lips tucked into a small pout as Heeseung snickered.
“Okay, fair! But I'd imagine it's going to be awkward or tense. Maybe, or probably both. I'll be there for emotional support.” He offered, quirking a brow.
“The worst emotional support ever.” Haewon fibbed, sticking her tongue out at him as he scoffed.
“Says the one who literally came to my house last night.” He grumbled back softly.
“I had nowhere else to go!” Haewon exclaimed in defense, frantic and flustered hands waving around.
“Okay, sure. Let that be your excuse.” The boy teased, clicking his tongue as he shook his head.
“But seriously, on another note. Last week, we were talking about how our mom's kinda.. I don't know how to explain. Put the extra cheerful, perfect persona on when one of us is around.” He began, as she pursed her lips and nodded slowly along.
“Meaning they don't want to be perceived in a bad light. To keep a friendly and welcoming image.” He stated, as Haewon tilted her head.
“I'm confused. Where is this going?” The girl questioned, a bit skeptical as the boy smiled, chuckling.
“I'm getting there, don't worry.” He reassured, as the girl hummed, going back to listening as she ran her fingers through her hair.
“Okay, so. Back to what I was saying.” The boy cleared his throat, eyes drifting up to the ceiling as he played on his words in his head.
“If that's true, they're less likely to argue if I'm there. You know, to keep a good image.” Heeseung concluded, as she let a hum of approval sound from her lips.
“That's actually kinda smart.” She complimented, as he smiled cheekily, folding his arms over his chest.
“Right? Thank you.” He replied, flashing a winsome smile her way as she rolled her eyes playfully.
“But, is this just your way of convincing me to let you come over tomorrow?” Haewon asked, as he pursed his lips, unable to conceal his smile.
He shrugged softly, acting clueless before taking a small breath and speaking.
“Maybe. But! There's a good chance that what I said can come true. I'm a genius.” Heeseung raised his hands up to his head, laughing through his sentences.
“You’re no genius. But, I agree, it's a good chance.” The girl sighed out in agreement, nodding in approval.
“But, you're sure? I'm sure my mom will let you come over tomorrow night, but it might be very awkward.”
“Positive.”
“Alright. But what about your parents? Would they be okay with it?” Haewon reminded, as the boy hummed, brushing it off.
“I'm sure they'll be fine with it. I'll talk to them about it whenever I get home.” He said, waving it off.
“Okay then. You're doing this to yourself, though.” She narrowed her eyes, pointing her index finger towards him jokingly as he shook his head.
“Relax. It can't be that bad.” Heeseung huffed, pulling one of his knees to his chest.
“Mm, you don't know that.” The girl clicked her tongue, muttering softly.
Her eyes drifted down, falling upon the many school books laid out on the floor in front of them. “Hey, when did all of this get here?”
“Huh? I've been setting all of this out during the entire conversation we just had. How did you not notice?” He huffed, furrowing his brows as the girl shrugged nonchalantly.
“I don't know. I wasn't really paying attention.” She admitted, completely unbothered with the situation.
“You need better awareness.” He teased, hand trailing up to the rest of the top of her head as he ruffled her hair messily.
The girl grumbled in response, scoffing as she shoved his hand away, flattening her hair with her palms. Or, attempting to, at best.
“I have perfect self awareness. Just not around you, because you're too unpredictable.” Haewon said, snickering.
“Weird way to say you're comfortable with me, but I'll take it.” Heeseung shrugged, as lightning struck and thunder roared shortly after.
“Shut up. Don't put words into my mouth.” The girl complained, hand reaching out to rest against his shoulder as she pushed him lightly, only eliciting a laugh from the boy.
“Mm, okay.” Heeseung agreed, raising his hands as a sign of surrender.
“What is this for, exactly?” Haewon questioned, completely moving on.
“You can't tell already?” Heeseung chuckled, brows raised as he tilted his head, eyes open wide as he stared at her with intent.
“I can. I just don't want to believe you're making me spend such a peaceful afternoon doing nothing but study.” She scoffed, rolling her eyes.
“‘Peaceful’ is an overstatement.” Heeseung commented, referring to the storm taking place over the spring skies.
“What? You don't like storms?”
“Depends on the day.”
Haewon pressed her lips together, nodding slowly in response. “Well, I suppose I should get my own books, right?”
Heeseung hummed, eyes following her as she wandered across her bedroom, not bothering to get her things out of her bag as she dragged her backpack along with her to sit on the floor beside him once again.
