"HAEWON, wait up!" Heeseung called out to the girl, who paused to turn around, eyes watching as he lazily swung her backpack over his shoulder.

"Where were you?" He asked, catching up to her as they began to walk together, headed to their lockers to prepare for their next set of classes.

"I woke up late." She muttered, telling half of the truth as she shrugged lightly.

"Ahh, I see." The boy hummed, nodding his head as he pressed his lips together in a thin line before continuing, "reading manhwa again?"

The girl huffed out a laugh, giving him a small nudge with her shoulder. "Hey, how'd you know? You stalker!" she exclaimed teasingly.

"I am not a stalker!" Heeseung laughed, rolling his eyes. "And come on, it's so obvious! You're literally obsessed with those things."

"Hmm, fair enough." Haewon let out, clicking her tongue. The two fell silent, nothing but the lively chatter between other students in the noisy hallway filling their ears before the girl sucked in a breath, breaking the silence lingering between them.

"I got detention by the way." Haewon spoke, the words falling past her lips so calmly, that Heeseung barely even noticed until the words processed in his mind.

"Oh, really?" Heeseung uttered out, before realization hit him, "Wait— what?"

Haewon let a vague smile settle onto her lips at his reaction, hands absentmindedly playing with her hair, of which was tied up into a ponytail as a result of what little time she had to get ready this morning.

"How are you so nonchalant about that?" He furrowed his brows, before adding on, "And how did you get detention?"

"Heeseung, put two and two together. I was late for class." She pointed out, as Heeseung sighed.

"Okay, true." He murmured, trailing off in his thoughts as he turned to look at her, his doe eyes boring into her side profile. "But I feel that there's more to this story than you're letting on."

"Do you wanna know what I think?" Haewon chimed in, meeting his curious gaze amusedly.

"I think you're too paranoid." The girl concluded with a soft hum, only to receive a scoff.

"Don't try to gaslight me, Haewon. I know your little deceptions." He snickered, shaking his head. "Just tell me the full story."

"The full story is none of your business, dummy." Haewon grumbled to herself, crossing her arms over her chest.

"You're very secretive sometimes and it scares me, you know that?" Heeseung sighed out, finally dropping the topic as she clearly wished to not speak about it.

The girl chuckled, smiling proudly as she lifted her head up high. "Glad to know I intimidate you, Heeseung. Means a lot, really."

"Oh, god, did I just inflate your giant ego?" Heeseung groaned, placing a hand over his heart dramatically as Haewon grimaced and elbowed him.

"I do not have an ego, shut up." The girl denied, earning a heavy laugh from the boy as his eyes curved into two small crescents.

"Yeah, right. And pigs can fly." Heeseung teased, his arm swinging around her shoulder as she muttered a string of curses under her breath.

"Alright, alright. Stop trying to manifest my downfall, Seong Haewon. I can hear you." Heeseung clicked his tongue in disapproval.

"Good. I wanted you to hear, anyway." Haewon confessed, biting back a smile as she turned her head away from him, not allowing him to see her expression as he chuckled and nodded his head.

"By the way, do you have gym duty, or are you just going to just sit in detention until it's over?" Heeseung asked, curiosity striking within him.

"Gym duty, unfortunately." Haewon replied, biting the inside of her cheek as her playful gaze sharpened at the thought alone.

"Yikes, that sucks." Heeseung sympathized, sucking in a breath as stared down at his shoes.

"I have soccer practice after school. Do you think you'll be done before I am?"

Haewon tilted her head, a dry laugh leaving her lips. "I sure hope so." She said, her eyes falling upon her locker that was just up ahead.

"Well, regardless of the time, wait up for me. We'll walk home together, since you're clearly not going to be taking the bus." He proposed with a small hum.

"Mhm, alright. But you're not touching me when you're sweaty and stinky. I'll kill you." Haewon threatened jokingly, poking at his side.

Heeseung chuckled and rolled his eyes, a lopsided grin spread across his face as he could only nod in response.

"But, hypothetically speaking, if I were to just- I don't know, skip detention and take the bus home, how mad would you be?"

"Seong Haewon, you are not skipping detention. You know how much trouble you'll get in for that? Our school is strict as is, there's absolutely no way they'd just let that slide. They'd one hundred percent expel you." Heeseung scolded quietly, furrowing his brows.

"I was joking! I'm not that dumb. And for your information, I didn't even deserve detention! It wasn't even my fault, dude." Haewon complained, as the boy tilted his head and huffed.

"What do you mean, it wasn't your fault? Haewon, you literally stayed up reading manhwa all night willingly, resulting in you being late to school. It is your fault." The boy pointed out, narrowing his eyes.

"No but that's— wait, okay, nevermind." Haewon stopped herself, brushing it off as she let him believe the singular reason for her detention.

"Woah, woah, wait a minute. Why did you say it like that?" Heeseung asked, pausing once they reached her locker as she began to put in the pin to unlock it.

"Just to let you know, class is in a few minutes and you still don't have your books. Keep this up, and you'll be joining me in detention." The girl said, looking up at him and offering a sarcastic smile as she reached her hand out to pat his shoulder.

"You're annoying." Heeseung snickered, gently pushing her hand away.

"And you're gonna be late."

Heeseung scoffed, rolling his eyes in response as he brushed his fingers through his dark hair.

"Okay, fine. I'll see you later, okay? Actually pay attention in class, please. Don't forget that I am your tutor. I won't go easy on you just because you're my best friend." He said, voice raising in volume for her to hear as he began to walk away.

Haewon stifled a laugh, not even looking up at him as she dug through her locker. "Okay!" She called out, as he walked away to his own locker.
