Chapter 1
(A/N): Just to make things easier I want to inform you that all the thoughts inside the character's mind and all notes and letters will be in italics while the narration will be normal.
The breeze blowed through my window, it made me go deeper into my blanket. I had been trying to sleep but as usual it never came. My sleep had sworn to leave me alone at night and to come visit me during the day. It had been another buzy day at the university. The pages of my assignments were flapping in the wind. The thoughts of the previous day filled my head and as if they were pages of a book they flipped through my mind and I gradually fell asleep.
I woke to the sun falling on my face. While I was wearing my jeans, I noticed that my once long jeans now barely reached my ankles. AH!! Why can't the jeans grow up with me!! To explain the situation let me tell you that I experience a hell lot of growth spurts. On my way to the university I saw a very young boy in ragged clothes, walking alone on the street, he kept giving me sidelong looks. Weird I thought.
My name is Tracy Thompson, in simple words I am an introvert. I live alone in my apartment which is just a few blocks away from my university. My parents passed away when I was very young. I was raised by my grandfather who passed away last year. So I am alone unless some far away relative shows up at my doorstep someday. I am a student of the medical department so almost all of my time is spent in studying and the rest in cooking and daily chores. My parents worked in the business industry so I inherited about enough wealth but I still work part time in a pet clinic to earn for my daily spendings.
My day went on as it should have, for lunch as I headed to the canteen I found my best friend Jane waiting for me with my food I thanked her and we chit-chatted for a while.
After my classes, I headed to the clinic for my shift. Towards the end of my shift that young boy who I had seen in the morning entered the clinic. He said," hello ma'am, I would appreciate if you co-operate with me and come with me for a walk, else the outcome will not be favourable". Judging his looks he must be around my age. I replied coldly," Why the hell should I go with you, a complete stranger?". At this he removed his phone and made a call. Way to go Tracy you just met someone weirder than you. After some time he handed the phone to me.I raised my eyebrows as I took it, a man's voice spoke," Listen girl, I know that you live alone and do not have anyone to rely on and that you are really close that girl named Jane, I have her with me and if want do not want things to get nasty then cooperate with me and my people and do as I say, understood?".
"Umm...yes", I replied with hesitance before I could say anything he hung up. The boy then snatched the phone from me and ran away. How rude!!
Jane, my best friend and also part sister. We met in highschool, at first she was utterly rude to me but I ignored her helped her when she needed it after all she was my deskmate. Eventually she warmed up towards me and our friendship grew deeper. I had to save Jane from whoever took her.
I decided to check if she was actually gone. I tried calling her a few times but my calls went unanswered, as I walked to her apartment. Like me her parents had passed away when she was young but unlike me she had an older sister who lived abroad and helped Jane with her daily expenditure. So as expected Jane lived alone at her apartment. On reaching, I knocked on her door but it opened so I went in. Everything in her living room was in place and there were no signs of forcible entry on her door. I went to her room and... Whoa!! The bedsheets were on the floor along with many of her belongings. Her closet door was broken and shower in the bathroom was still running. From this I concluded that when the kidnappers entered her house she was mostly probably in the bathroom. Just then my phone buzzed, I got a message from an unknown number saying - do not even try to contact the cops or anyone else as it would lead to disastrous consquences - this definitely knocked whatever last patience I had left, I screamed my head out. This was the first time that I had felt truly helpless, not knowing how to deal with the situation and with an innocent life at stake, I felt miserable.
I went to her bathroom and turned off the shower when I saw a hastily written note lying on the floor. The note said -
Tracy,
I hope that you find this, someone has broken into my house. I am trying to get help but my phone shows no signal. I have kept my phone under the sink, in the cabinet to the left. I am going to record whatever happens next. If anything happens then please contact my sister, she'll know what to do. Judging by the voices there are three men and they have been taking your name for some reason. Be safe I'll try to hold on for as long as I can.
-Jane
I immediately found her phone and played the latest recording. After listening to the recording I found that after Jane had switched the recording she had gone back to her room and acted as if she had never known the presence of the intruders. Then she had tried to get rid of them but unfortunately she was knocked unconscious and dragged away. Just when I finished listening to the recording I heard a knock on the door.
Hey everyone I hope you forgive me for this first chapter as it is very long and kind of boring but I want you all to know this that this book gets way more exciting and the upcoming chapters are way better than this one, since this is my first book the first chapter was bound to be a disaster. I hope you read on... thank you.
