Chapter 9
Juana got permission from Gerardo to host a small party at home with her friends. She had spent the entire week "preparing" and planning for the event—or so she liked to say. In reality, all she did was boss the maids around, giving them endless instructions while barely lifting a finger herself.
Finally, the day arrived, and five of her friends gathered at the Pérez mansion in the evening.
"Hey, girls!" Juana ran to greet them, throwing her arms around each of them with excitement.
"Wow! This house is enormous," Veronica said, gazing around the grand estate in awe.
"I feel like I'd get lost if I walked around here alone," Emelina added, her voice tinged with amazement.
"Oh, come on, guys. Don't act like you've never seen big houses before," Juana said, a subtle note of pride slipping into her tone.
"Not one like this," Doris replied, still marveling at the grandeur.
"Look at this grand staircase. Oh my gosh! Does it lead to your room?" Natalina asked, staring at the massive staircase that led to Enzo's part of the house.
"Hell no! Don't even think about climbing that," Juana said, waving her off with a laugh. "Come on, follow me."
She led her friends to her section of the house. They climbed another staircase, this one leading to Juana's private quarters. At the top, there was a cozy living room that belonged exclusively to her. A sleek railing encircled the area, allowing a clear view of the main living room below.
"Oh my gosh! I wish my dad gave me my own space like this," Felicita said, a hint of jealousy creeping into her voice. "You're so lucky, girl."
"Take a seat, girls," Juana said with a grin, gesturing to the plush sofas. "What would you like to drink?"
While the maid served drinks, the girls began chatting and laughing together.
A few minutes later, Enzo came home. He was rarely around, usually busy at the office, traveling out of state for work, hanging out at clubs with friends, or involved in one of his infamous fights.
As soon as Enzo entered the house, he heard the sound of laughter coming from Juana's living room. Curious, he peeked over and saw a group of girls gathered in her space. With a mischievous smirk, he headed to his room without saying a word.
"Look at this view from here," Natalina said, getting up from her chair. She walked over to the railing and placed her hands on it, gazing out through the glass doors. Beyond the railing, she could see the sparkling pool, the sprawling green yard, and the trees that bordered the estate.
Veronica joined her but quickly spotted something else entirely. Her eyes widened as she clutched her glass tightly, careful not to let it slip. "Look at that view," she said, her voice full of surprise. Her mouth hung open slightly as she stared in amazement.
"What?" Natalina said, turning her head. Her breath hitched as she spotted Enzo coming down the stairs, dressed in nothing but a tight, short black boxer trunk that perfectly showcased his chiseled abs.
"Oh my gosh! Who the hell is that, Juana?" Natalina asked, sounding like she was about to lose her breath.
"What? What?" The other girls rushed to the railing, eager to see what Natalina and Veronica were so worked up about.
"Who's that, Juana?" Felicita asked, throwing an incredulous glance at her friend.
Juana darted to the railing, annoyance written all over her face. "That's my youngest brother. Come on, girls. Haven't you ever seen a guy before?" she said, her tone tinged with irritation.
"Not one this handsome," Doris muttered, leaning over the railing to get a better view.
"Does he always walk around the house dressed like that?" Emelina asked, clearly captivated as her eyes followed Enzo's every move.
"He's 27! He's six years younger than us. Six years," Juana said, hoping her friends would agree and let it go.
"So what? He's not a child. Look at those abs," Veronica said, her tone almost reverent, as though she were describing a work of art.
"And those thighs," Doris added. "I love when men have thick thighs."
For some reason, Enzo hadn't gone to the pool yet. Instead, he wandered aimlessly around the main living room, seemingly for no reason other than to be seen.
"Enzo! What the hell are you doing walking around dressed like that in the house?" Juana snapped, leaning over the railing, her patience wearing thin.
Hearing her voice, Enzo looked up.
"Oh, his eyes!" one of the girls murmured, prompting a cascade of whispered admiration that only made Juana angrier.
"Do you want me to take it off? Okay then," Enzo said with a sly grin, reaching for his waistband.
"NO! NO!" Juana shrieked as he began to pull his trunks down. Enzo stopped just in time, but one more inch and it would have been disastrous.
"Let him do it," Emelina whispered to Juana, her tone teasing.
"Ew," Juana snapped, glaring at Emelina in disgust. "If you want to swim, go to the pool. What the hell are you doing here?" she yelled down at Enzo, her frustration bubbling over.
"So, I'm not invited to your party?" Enzo asked, looking up at her with mock offense, his hands resting casually on his hips.
"Of course you're invited. Come here, Enzo," Doris said in a flirtatious voice, drawing a sharp look of anger and disbelief from Juana.
"Yes, darling, come here," Natalina chimed in, taking another sip of her drink and smiling slyly.
Juana's anger only grew as she realized Enzo was intentionally stealing the spotlight. She could tell he was reveling in the attention. "This is a girls-only party!" she said through gritted teeth.
"Come on, Juana. He's your baby brother. Look how cute he is," Felicita said, her eyes lighting up as Enzo started walking toward them, a smug grin plastered on his face.
"Oops, looks like we don't have an extra chair," Doris said with a sly smile. "I'll give you my chair, baby. You sit here, and I'll sit on your lap."
"How generous," Enzo replied in a flirtatious tone, settling into Doris's chair. Doris immediately sat on his lap, making the other girls envious and pushing Juana closer to the edge of her patience. She could feel herself about to explode.
"Enzo, go away, you dog!" Juana yelled, her anger getting the best of her. Her friends stared at her in shock, and Juana immediately felt embarrassed for shouting at Enzo in front of them.
"Why did you call him a dog?" Felicita asked, her voice full of disbelief. She was clearly taken aback, as if wondering how anyone could call such a handsome man a dog.
"Eh, I meant to say darling," Juana muttered, embarrassed, as she sank into her chair. Enzo raised one eyebrow, a playful grin spreading across his face.
"But I heard dog," Enzo said, his tone teasing, as Juana shot him a firm, angry look.
Juana's girls' party quickly turned into an event all about Enzo. Everyone seemed to forget about Juana as they flocked to him, eager to talk to him. Emelina, already a bit more drunk than the others, perched herself on the arm of Enzo's chair. Doris and Emelina were all over him, and Enzo threw Juana occasional glances that made her blood boil, pushing her closer to the edge of losing control.
At some point, a drunken Emelina leaned in, about to kiss Enzo on the lips. Juana, absolutely furious, snapped, "Emelina, stop trying to kiss my brother in front of me!"
Emelina startled, her drunken haze breaking as she realized what was happening.
"I wasn't! What are you talking about?" Emelina said, her face flushing with embarrassment.
"We saw what you were trying to do, Emelina. It was so embarrassing," Natalina added, her tone sharp and tinged with jealousy.
Enzo felt exhausted from the act. The only reason he was even there was to irritate Juana, and he had succeeded. He had destroyed her mood and ruined the party.
"Okay, girls, I'm going to swim," Enzo said, standing up. Doris, who had been sitting in his lap, tumbled to the floor, and Emelina, still off balance on the armchair, followed suit, crashing to the floor as well.
"Oops, sorry," Enzo said, offering a hand to both girls, though his intentions were far from sincere. He had meant to let them fall, but he still played it cool because his real goal was to make Juana angry by being friendly with her friends.
"Did you get hurt? I'm sorry, I didn't mean to hurt you," Enzo said with a fake smile, his tone dripping with insincerity. He quickly walked away and headed to the pool.
"Can we go out too?" Veronica asked, her eyes following Enzo as he swam in the pool.
Juana sighed in frustration. For the first time, she had invited her friends over, and Enzo had ruined it.
"Come on, Juana, let's go," her friends, oblivious to her frustration, grabbed her hand and dragged her toward the pool with them. Juana had completely lost her excitement.
