Control

~*Back to 3rd person (Author) POV*~

"Alright, Wei Wuxian, though I am against the idea of you being able to control resentful energy, I will give you the benefit of a doubt for you to explain to us everything you are willing to share," Lan Qiren said calmly. His blood was running cold and his mouth tasted bitter, but he needed to hear things from Wei Wuxian himself to make the final judgement.

Wuxian nodded with a sigh, "to be honest, I don't know how long I have been able to use and control it. I think it was some time after my parents died and I was still roaming the streets before my grandmother found me," he explained, "she didn't find it at first because I had not formed a core yet and she was more concerned for my health than anything. After I formed a golden core, I could hear voices, screams of pain and anger. It was so loud at one point that Grandmother gave me a charm to help ease the resentment away. I still have the charm but I don't have it with me. It's back home as I am able to fully control it and sense it. It only took me being able to control it after I gained a silver core."

"Silver core?" Wangji asked.

"Ah, it's like a golden core but stronger and it's a core of immortality," Wuxian answered, "it's very rare to hear others talk about it. Other than my grandmother and me, I don't know who else has formed one so information on them is limited."

"So what happened last night?" Xichen asked.

"Honestly, I never know that I had sleepwalked until the following morning when someone said I had. Otherwise it may seem as just a dream to me. I somewhat remember part of it but not all."

"You cleansed a piece of Yin Metal," Qiren stated, "you took in a lot of resentment and I hope that didn't create any imbalances in your Qi."

"I just need to meditate for a few hours and I should be fine," Wuxian said, "but what I never spoke of was that to control Yin energy, there is a risk of a black core. Meaning it is black and has a red glow to it and it is the cultivation source of the resentful energy. Grandmother has been keeping an eye on it to make sure my core remains stable. She said it could cause me to become demonic so she is trying to find a safe way to help me get rid of it. Plus I will be happy not being able to use or control the energy and here loud screaming all the time."

"We can help by allowing access to our forbidden library if you like," Qiren stated. As many would know Lan Qiren, he would be the first to jump in to help rid of the black core.

"As far as I remember, Baoshan had told me that pure yang energy can destroy a black core but it can also be very dangerous. Your normal gold or silver core that has been tainted and becomes a black core, there is a risk of not only losing the core for good, but also death itself. So I am not sure what here solution is just yet," Wuxian explained.

"Pure yang energy, like passing spiritual energy?" Xichen asked.

"No, she said there are some spiritual swords that have pure yang energy...so if one were to use a sword and cut through a core..."

"Damage could be lethal," Qiren finished Wuxian's sentence, "Which is why you said it's dangerous and could not only damage the current core after it was penetrated with the Yang Energy from the sword, but it could cause the core to get crushed and kill the cultivator."

"Anytime I take in resentment, I either have to expel it at some point or get cleansed," Wuxian said, "I know Xichen said something about a song called Cleansing."

"I played it after we got back last night," Wangji said, "It seemed to help. So I will help you with Cleansing."

Wuxian nodded, "Grandmaster Lan, I know that you have a lot of thoughts about resentful energy, but I promise I am doing what I can to contain it."

"I understand," Qiren stated, "We will all help in any way we can...plus I am slightly afraid of your grandmother a bit...she scares me a little."

Wuxian couldn't help but chuckle, "She does have that vibe sometimes huh," He said, "I hope she is okay with Lan Zhan."

"Why wouldn't she?" Qiren asked, "Also why would she want to meet him?"

Wuxian looked at Wangji and Wangji looked at his brother. Xichen decided to be the breaker of the the news, "Wei Wuxian and Wangji are fated soulmates."

The three looked at Qiren waiting for him to digest the news. He seemed okay, but his face went a couple shade lighter. He closed his eyes and took a few breaths to calm himself, "When Wangji said he can Unsheathe his sword...that should have been a giveaway," Qiren finally said after a few awkward minutes of silence, "So you are to meet her for approval?"

Wangji nodded, "I wish to betroth Wei Ying," he said, "I know we are still young, so we are willing to wait until the appropriate age to officially become cultivation partners."

"Very well," Qiren said, "I approve, though I am sure Wuxian having a free spirit will have a hard time staying here."

"We can go back and forth or find a place outside Cloud Recesses and we can assist when we are needed," Wangji suggested.

"We can discuss it later but for now, I think we should focus on the matter at hand with the Yin Iron," Xichen butted in the conversation. The others nodded in approval.

"Even though I cleansed it, it should still be able to detect the other pieces. I also got rid of the Dire Owl of the Wen Sect so I feel like they have something to do with it," Wuxian stated.

"What is the story about the Yin Iron?" Wangji asked.

Xichen then put a silence and protection barrier around the building they were in so they can talk about it with out being spied on, "The Yin Iron is a special type of metal that absorbs unusual amounts of resentment under the direction of someone named Xue Chonghai several hundred years.  After defeating Xue Chonghai, the five great clans divided the Yin Metal into four pieces and hid them among places of benevolent energy."

"You say there are four, but there is actually five, it resides with a creature known as The Tortoise of Slaughter, Xuanwu," Wuxian stated, "Though no one knows where that creature is."

"How are you sure there are five?" Xichen asked.

"I studied about it growing up with my Grandmother, there are things that she felt I should learn in case the knowledge would be useful, and she is closest friends with Lan Yi," Wuxian answered, "She spoke of her a few times. I remember her saying she was a kind and Just woman, but power for the Iron drove her to many regrets...she wished she could have stood with her and helped her more, but at the time she didn't know what to do."

Xichen and Wangji were taken back when they took a glance a their uncle to see a heart warming smile on his face. Qiren liked hearing that Baoshan still though of his mother.

"You should tell her that she should not hold on to those regrets any more," Qiren stated, "She was happy to meet her grandson last night and only asked to send Baoshan an 'I'm Sorry and Thank you,' and hope to meet her again someday."

Wuxian smiled at Qiren, "I will pass that along to her, I am sure she will be happy to hear that," He said but then could not resist to tease the old man just a little, "If you weren't scared of her you could ask her for stories of the two."

"Do you wish to be punished, Boy?" Qiren asked not tolerating his antics.

Wuxian couldn't help but laugh, "No, no, no," He said, "to be fair though, the only time I am afraid of her is if I get caught doing something she would disapprove of...her punishments are a bit scary."

"How scary?" Wangji asked curiously.

"Well, she has this ring that can send out shocks of electricity, it hurts, I don't know how to explain, maybe like getting scolded by a hot iron," Wuxian said, "I have only faced it once and I dared not to face it again."

Qiren stroked his beard, "I remember that ring, never experienced it, and I hope I don't ever," He said.

"Well, since Lan Zhan and I are soulmates, you two are bound to meet again someday," Wuxian stated. Qiren could only sigh.

"When the students head back to their sects and you two leave to meet Baoshan, do you two want to take a detour and search for some of the Yin pieces?" Xichen asked.

Wangji and Wuxian shared a glance at each other with both gave them the feeling they both agreed, "Yeah," Wuxian answered for the both of them, "There is a few stops on the way to Yiling so I am sure there is something that way."

"Why Yiling?" Wangji asked.

"It is the direction where my grandmother is located, no one knows except my martial uncles and me, and now when you go, you will know so you have to take an oath in front of her stating you won't share her location...not that many know how to get in her home if they do find it anyway."

"I will not share the location," Wangji assured, "Is there anything else I should know?"

"She might test you," Wuxian said, "my martial uncles are actually cultivation partners. Xiao Xingchen is from where my grandmother is but Song Lan came from somewhere else, I remember her testing him when he first met him. I don't know what she will do exactly, but it is the only thing I can really warn you about. Otherwise she is very nice."

"Test me?" Wangji asked, "So it will be different from your uncles'?"

"Similar test, but different at the same time," Wuxian said, "I believe in you though, you are very smart and talented so I am sure you will be fine....How is your spice tolerance?"

"Terrible," Xichen answered for him, "Since spice isn't part of our diet."

"She will probably at some point sneak a hot pepper in your meal as a prank," Wuxian said, "She told me that she did that to my father when my mom brought him to meet her for the first time. She said it was funny seeing my father trying his hardest to hold himself together."

Qiren let out a chuckle, "Sounds like something Baoshan would do."

"She has a mischievous side...I guess, my mother did as well, and I was told I get my antics from her."

"You do," Qiren said, "At least you didn't try to burn or shave my beard."

"My mother tried to do that?" Wuxian asked trying not to laugh at Qiren yet again. If he laughs at him any more, he might get punished anyway. But then Xichen couldn't help but laugh because he heard stories of Wuxian's mother being a prankster to his uncle.

"Hmm," Qiren huffed, "I think we should call it here for today."

Qiren was the first to leave but the Jade Brothers and Wuxian stayed back for a bit.

"Keep my brother safe a little bit while visiting your grandmother," Xichen said sort of in a begging kind of way.

"I will, he is important to me, and she will know that right away, she has a way of knowing things before my uncles and I do," Wuxian said, "It's almost like she can see the future."

"Will you take the rabbits with you?" Xichen asked.

"Maybe we should," Wangji said, "They may be more comfortable where Wei Ying lives."

"If you want that, but wouldn't you rather have them here with you to keep you company?" Wuxian asked.

"We can talk more about it later," Wangji said.

When talking of the Black core....you know, the calmness has been nice through the story so far, the storm has to come sooner or later right? ;)

Hope you all are enjoying the book so far. I happen to be writing more that I actually expected because I only have about two weeks until I graduate from College. But I am having so much fun writing this. Though I have a good amount left to write, I might write another Wangxian FanFic at some point. let me know if you would like another one?
