Secrets
They say that the woods always was a place to store hidden secrets — sometimes, ones that should never see the light of day. Although, thousands of years ago it was a good hiding spot, but now it was revealed to the world.
It was too soon.
There are bound to be mistakes.
It happened late on Friday night as five teenagers stumbled into the woods, buzzed and filled with laughter. They had never been into this part of the forest before, driving two long hours to go to a party. They had disappeared into the night, where only one was able to come back.
The police sighed, "Mr. Scott, please explain to me what happened." Through the duration of their conversation, the boy rambled in fragments; there was no doubt this boy was drunk.
Drunk and absolutely terrified with a hint of stupidity.
Mr. Scott, a seventeen year old boy, nodded his head. His hands shook in fear, matching the rest of his body. "We were supposed to be hiking," he whispered before his eyes glossed over with confusion. "Wait, no." He looked around the woods, not remembering the way he and his friends went. "No, my sister said we were going to a party."
Tears filled his eyes as he thought of his twin sister. The last memory that he had of her must had come from a nightmare, but then again, he felt as if that girl had been a stranger to him.
He couldn't tell what was real anymore.
"I'll never see her again!" He stumbled into a tree. "All because of that stupid box!"
The police nodded his head as he wrote down some notes. He tried to keep his emotions from being reflected on his face, but he doubted that he could get anything useful out of this boy. Luckily for them, they had people searching the area.
It was possible to find the rest of his group.
"After the party, we must had came here. There was a path somewhere."
One of the other policemen from the search walked towards them, giving a nod to the too.
"I don't remember how far we walked, but my friend... or at least, I thought he was my friend."
"Take your time, boy," the police who just showed up patted Mr. Scott on the shoulder. "All you have to do is tell us what you remember."
"We found a box. Wait, I actually think I was alone. I remembered being alone - for a long time."
The first policemen sighed, "What was in the box?"
Mr. Scott froze, his eyes slightly glowing, "Those kids souls now."
The officer shook his head, "I don't need this jokes. What happened?"
"You wouldn't believe me if I told you, Sir."
"I'll believe you," the other cop commented, moving behind his partner.
"When they — when I opened the box, I was free," he whispered to himself. "After being cursed, trapped, for so long." He started mumbling to himself. "I don't understand."
Mr. Scott didn't hear the gurgling noises in front of him.
"I can't tell which are my thoughts anymore. They all blended together. The streets and odd dresses, the snow and lights, the planes and guns." The man whimpered, "It makes my head hurt, Sir."
There was a thump to the ground.
"Oh Annie."
Mr. Scott snapped his head up, "I think that's my name. There are so many of them circling my head though."
His eyes widen when he noticed the first officer on the ground, a knife in his back.
"You weren't supposed to get out, Annie," the second one chuckled. "You were behaving so well for so long. Then you had to ruin it."
Annie backed up, her hands in front of her and her eyes wide.
"I guess I just have to torture you in a different way now," he chuckled, as he pulled the knife out of his colleges back.
