Chapter 9
Max P.O.V
About ten minutes later, I sat in my mothers car, parked in a parking lot. In front of a bar. Great. Where exactly is my life heading?
Grabbing the keys, I hopped out of the car and locked the doors. I made sure that the car was actually locked before leaving, just in case drunk adults decided it would be fun to steal a nice car. Never know, things happen.
"There you are!" A voice slurred behind me. I stood frozen at first, who could this be? In the back of my mind I hoped it was Iris. But even then did I really want to see her drunk?
"Come on face me!" Listening to the female voice behind me, I slowly turned around. And guaranteed it was one and only Iris. Her dark hair was brought up in a high ponytail. No effort to her hair yet it still looked really great. She was also wearing dark jeans with a black crop top. My mind went back to movies, where people usually dressed nicely to go to a bar... However Iris was the total opposite of looking dressy, she held a casual look.
Iris starred blankly at me, waiting for me to be done checking her out. "Are you done checking me out?" She voiced her thoughts. Without helping it I started to blush. In awkward situation I always seemed to find myself blushing. And around Iris, I seemed to blush even more.
I ran my hand through my hair "I guess" I responded, not bothering to hide the blushing anymore.
Iris stood there, only holding my gaze. Her eyes held confusion as she thought something over. She shook her head and smiled. "Ready to go inside?"
I raised my eyebrow at her. Inside? Inside the bar? I didn't think that was quite safe. Or if we are even allowed inside since we're underage.
Iris grabbed my hand "Don't worry I know some people" Without waiting for a response or a complain. She began to pull me inside the old bar.
The bar looked like a classy, family, restaurant from the outside but in the inside it was still unknown. As I said, I've never been in a bar before in my entire life so I have no idea what to expect. All I know that there was an enormous line up to get in.
My old childhood friend pulled me along, making me trail behind her. Soon enough we were in front of the line. Many people wanted to complain but once they got a glimpse of iris's face they immediately shut up. Iris and I stood at the front of he line, facing the bodyguard.
The bodyguard stood tall and proud. Unaffected of mine and Iris presence or how we cut the line. "Iris" he acknowledged, still not looking down at us.
Iris crossed her arms over her chest. Giving her presence an meaningful stance. "Griffin" she responded, starring straight into the side of his head. Finally, the guy, who I presume is griffin, gave Iris full eye contact. It was deadly first, really deadly. I would of thought he was going to jump on her and probably strangle her. Instead, he smiled.
"Always nice to be welcomed by your presence" Griffin said to Iris. At that moment I didn't like Iris talking to him. They seemed to know each other well. Which made me mad considering she's seventeen and he probably twenty-nine. I can't judge anything of their relationship because they probably didn't have any relationship. And I was just overreacting. I was just acting jealous.
Griffin's eyes turned to me, like he was just realizing my presence. "Is he with you?" This time, Griffins glare was deadly and it towards me. He looked down at me like he was unimpressed. Seems like school isn't the only place I'll get those looks from.
Iris intertwined her fingers through mine. "Yes, he's with me" her actions surprised me a lot. I probably would be blushing right about now if Griffin wasn't glaring at us. "Can we go inside now?" She asked. Clearly not hiding the impatience in her voice. Maybe it was the alcohol.
"Of course" he opened the wooden doors, and motioned us to go in.
Without missing a beat, Iris pulled us into the loud raging bar. The bar was humongous and spacious yet it was filled with many bodies. There was many people sitting at tables and other on the dance floor.
"Never been in a bar before?" She noted.
"Yeah"
"How come?"
I stared at her "Because I'm underage"
"Oh yeah"
Shaking off our little weird conversation, she pulled us along to the grand tables and near the bar.
The bar tender quickly noticed us and smiled. She stood 5"5 and looked about the age forty.
"Iris how are you dear?"
Iris smile at the middle age women. "I'm great Roxy, how about you"
The bar tender's smile faltered a little "Well you know how Bill can be. Anyways, what can I get you to drink?"
"I'll take a beer" she ordered calmly, like she has been drinking for ten years.
I stare wide eyes at the scenario in front of me. Iris drinks and these adults let her. What has the world has gotten to?
"And how about you?" The bar tender asked.
The lady waited patiently at the other side of the table for my order while Iris sipped on her beer that she has just gotten.
"Um I'll take a w-water please" I stuttered like the idiot I am. She quickly handed me my water then began taken other people's orders.
"So a water?" Iris mused. Still drinking her cold, glass beer. The glass was filled the yellowish beer substance but it also held a few ice cubes. At the top it was foaming, which I never quite got why it did that.
I held up my water and drank it. Even though Iris was drinking didn't mean that I had to drink. I was still underage but so is she. What the hell has Iris gotten herself into over the years?
"A lot of things" a female voice whispered beside me. Shoot! Did I say that out loud?
"Yes you did" she laughed, Her laughter sounded like music to my ears, even though she was drunk. That was a slight turn off.
The choices I could keep going on the conversation and take advantage that she's drunk. Or I could be respectful and leave it alone and wait till she tells me herself.
Iris took another drink out of her beer, which was almost empty. "After I moved, my life went straight downhill" she started to explain. Well she's explaining herself so that's good. It looked like she was going to say more and explain herself further. But for that moment she was tongue tied.
I gave her a strange look, noticing how her face went pale, as if she just spot a ghost. "What's wrong" worried laced in my voice.
Finally she met my eyes. And for once, I didn't see that confident, sassy Iris. I saw a scared little girl I used to know.
"We need to leave. Now"
