GHOSTS IN THE GRAVEYARD part 1

Just a normal day. { everyday, like the one before. sorry :) easily sidetracked }

just another normal day.

That's how these stories always start don't they? The character starts their day as normally as possible and then something goes horribly wrong and it changes the rest of their lives in an instant and then they all live happily ever after.

This isn't one of those stories, I didn't wake up, have breakfast, go to school and somewhere in the course of the day change my life.

...well, I did wake up, have breakfast and go to school... but that's beside the point.

No. My life changed the second the clock hand ticked over to the 12 on the morning of my birthday. changed for the better or worse you ask?

you decide.

This is normally the part where I would say 'it began as a normal day in wherever on the earth i was and I was doing this...' Yea that's how it would normally go, right? was that sort of what you were expecting? yea. however MY story?

My story begins... with a scream.

I suppose I should go back a bit further than where I currently am.

Hi. Nice to meet you, I'm Fox.

No, Fox is not my birth name, and no, I'm not going to tell you my birth name, but, you may find out somewhere along the course of my story... maybe.

I haven't really decided yet.

So I'm just Fox, everyone called me that, even the teachers at my school. The reason? pfft, like I need a reason...

I'm kidding

Every single day of my life I have worn a fox tail necklace and a orange headband with little fox ears on it. Every single day. I have no idea where I got them from, I can't remember a time when I didn't wear them, I just know that for the whole 15, now 16 years of my life, I've worn them. I even have baby pictures of me wearing them, its a miracle they haven't fallen apart yet. except that one time the necklace chain broke, but that wasn't my fault, some kid tried to take it and he snapped the chain.

ok so he grabbed it...

as he was falling to the ground...

after I tripped him

I am innocent

anyway, I didn't mention that before did I? I just turned sweet 16. trust me its anything but sweet right now. Anyway I need to go back on topic. Sorry about that it's a bad habit of mine. Now where was I, ahh yes screaming. That's what I woke up to on my birthday, lovely thing screaming is, like music to my ears.

Very loud, annoying, obnoxious music.

very, very loud.

I really hope your all getting my sarcasm, its my best quality (all my teachers have told me that, every year... ok so they actually said I was 'witty' I'm just translating teacher talk for you, your welcome). So when this loud, annoying, obnoxious music came on at exactly midnight I did what any semi sane person would do.

no, I did not bravely go out to face off with a psychopath or battle a monster that was threatening my family. just no. I already told you that's not how this story works, jeeze.

I stuffed my head under my pillow, obviously, what else do you do while preparing for the worst possible outcome.

And sure enough the worst happened. laughter. By now your probably wondering what the hell is going on and if I'm absolutely crazy, which I most certainly am by the way. Now the screaming was probably not what your thinking, going out on a limb here and guessing that your thinking it was someone getting killed, horror movie style. maybe something was happening to my family, the neighbours cat was being run over by a bus, honestly I dont know what your thinking. But it wasn't any of that, nope it was just part of the schedule. Yep I said it, there's a schedule for this.

You see I live in possibly the worst location on earth to build a house, I have no clue who thought this was a good idea, whatever the reason they were wrong, very wrong. I live next door to a graveyard. practically in the graveyard if I'm really thinking about it, or maybe the graveyards in our yard. either way its there. Normally I would find that awesome, grave stones and crypts are not only creepy but they make great hiding places for when you trip over someone's dog, and need somewhere to hide because the entire town blames you for the snazzy hot pink paintjob on the church.

that was totally not my fault.

but when the town 'ghost hunters' disturb your sleep most nights for the best part of 3 years a person such as myself, being the loner I am, tends to get a little crabby. I use the term 'ghost hunters' very loosely, very very very loosely, in reality their just a bunch of kids who take turns running around the graveyard in the middle of the night making bets on who can stay in the graveyard the longest without wetting themselves, it happens every week on Thursday, during school holidays it's Tuesdays and Thursdays, and that's why I like school so much. they also make a point of having get togethers during the full moon.

its like these kids have no shame.

Anyway, the whole town knows who they are and they gave themselves a gang name hence the use of the term 'ghost hunters'. Problem is the town leader person (I don't pay attention to poitics, whoever they are) he thinks it's a good activity for the kids, get them feeling closer to lost loved ones who are buried there, build character... or something...that sort of thing. And everyone else in the town lives just far enough away that they aren't bothered by it. Except us.

well, me. you see my dad is the only family I've ever had, again, not something I'm explaining. he just happens to be one of those people who likes to... lets call it indulge the children. or should I say 'unleash your inner child'.  in case you have no idea what im going on about, ill give you a hint. after the 13th time he won their stupid little game, they all pitched in to get him a trophy. it sits on his bedside table, he 'polishs' it once a week, twice if we have visitors and he brings up his 'town record' at every occasion possible. get the picture?

and by this time i think i can accuratly guess what your all thinking. "Fox , your roughly a thousand words into the story and so far its all been random info, what does this have to do with your story?"

well to start with, I can grantee that if you weren't thinking that before, you are now... and as for my story...

ill tell you what it has to do with my story.

ive had enough.

ok so this is a bit different to what I normally do, I'm trying to step out of my comfort zone and experiment with different point of views, there is an upside - technically seeing as I'm practicing my writing skills I can tell my parents that I have actually been studying for the HSC that's happening next week. technically this counts as English :)

anyway, criticism is welcome, more so than before, I have no confidence for these exams whatsoever

enough about me, what did you think about the story

'too much? too little? be honest... unless you hate it'

(for all the people who understand that reference, you are now my favourite people)

and for those that noticed that its got 'part 1' in the title, yes there will be another part.................

when I find the time to write it :)
